Measurement principles According to clinical studies, a blood temperature measure- ment taken from a major artery reflects the most accurate body temperature. This Infrared Forehead Thermometer is designed to measure the blood temperature from the skin’s surface above the temporal artery, one of the head’s major arteries. The NFS-100 is easier and gentler to use than existing types of thermometer such as rectal, oral, underarm and ear ther- mometers, thanks to its non-invasive usage method. In order to obtain a more accurate measurement, it uses an advanced SOLE algorithm that captures the infrared heat that is emitted from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 24 readings per second for 3 seconds. The NFS-100 ensures a faster, easier and safer measurement with a degree of clinical accuracy and several user-friendly functions. Special features

  • Non-invasive infrared measurements to minimize rejection symptoms and prevent secondary infection.
  • Measurement range from 20 ºC to 42.2 ºC
  • Three second measurement time (24 readings per second), re-measurement time of 0.1 second.
  • Stores the 8 most recent data readings
  • Power saving mode after 1 minute of non-use
  • Protective case for safekeeping
  • Ergonomic, slim design for convenient usage Instructions
  • Read through this manual before using the product for the first time.
  • Only use this product for its intended purpose, as descri- bed in this manual.
  • A measurement taken by this product does not represent a doctor's medical examination.
  • Consult with a doctor if any abnormality is found.
  • Do not take temperature readings over scar tissue or open sores.
  • Follow the safety instructions when using this product on an infant or baby.
  • Use this product in ambient temperatures from 16 ºC ~ 40 ºC.
  • Do not expose this product to temperatures below -20 ºC or above 50 ºC or to environments with humidity of over 95% (≥ 95%RH).
  • Do not drop this product or take temperatures with it when in the vicinity of hot objects/areas such as fireplaces, sto- ves and boiling water.
  • Before taking a temperature, measure the ambient tempe- rature or that of a general object (general mode), check that the user's temperature is within the normal body tem- perature range (35.8 ~ 38 ºC)General Information
  • Follow the cleaning instructions as described in this manual.
  • Do not use this product if it is not working properly.
  • To change the battery and to clean the device, follow the instructions in this manual.
  • If this product is not used regularly, remove the battery to prevent chemical leakage. If the battery leaks, never expo- se bare skin to the leaked fluid and remove the battery carefully.
  • Dispose of used batteries properly.
  • Examine the product regularly. Note on forehead temperature measurement To understand how to correctly use this thermometer, please read the manual carefully. It is important to understand the measurement instructions in order to produce an accurate measurement.
  • Only measure a side of the forehead that is exposed to the air. Anything covering the area, such as hair, will increase the temperature reading.
  • Slide the NFS-100 straight across the forehead, not down the side of the face, which may result in a low reading (Refer to measuring methods).
  • If there is perspiration on the forehead, take the temperature behind the ear lobe area. First, push away any hair to expose the area and wait approximate- ly 30 seconds before taking the mea- surement (Refer to measuring methods).General Information
  • It can be difficult to take an infant’s temperature because they are usually wrapped up in blankets or clothes. Push aside any clothing or blankets covering the neck area for 30 seconds or so and repeat the measurement. If you feel that the temperature behind the ear lobe is too low, or if there is no perspiration, compare the reading with the fore- head temperature reading at least once.
  • Sweating causes extra cooling of the skin, which results in an incorrectly low reading. For this reason, it is not recom- mended to take the temperature after wiping the forehead.
  • Wait about 30 seconds before measuring the same area again to prevent excessive cooling of the skin. Temperature Ranges Body temperature means the body’s internal temperature. The normal temperature of even a healthy person varies a little within a short range. The temperature of a person measured in the evening is normally 0.5 ºC higher than in the early mor- ning. It can also be affected by the environment, time and activity. Refer to the picture below to determine the normal body temperature ranges. GBGeneral Information
  • As the normal temperature range is different according to each person, it is recommended to first calculate a per- son’s healthy body temperature.
  • A forehead reading is normally 1 ºC higher than an ear rea- ding. Arterial

1. Press Í/mem button as illustrated.

2. All symbols are displayed on the LCD

screen when starting up.

3. When ready, the symbol ( __._ ) appears

on the display and the thermometer is ready to use.

4. Gently hold the NFS-100 as illustrated.

When starting a measurement, press the measure button once and firmly place the probe flat on the skin.

5. Slowly slide the probe from the middle of

the forehead to the hairline, keeping the instrument flat and in contact with skin. You should scan the forehead slowly, just like wiping the skin, for 3 seconds. The measurement should start from the cen- tre of the forehead, with the probe paral- lel to the eyebrows, toward the temporal area and not down the side of the face. The probe and the forehead should be at right angles to each other.27

6. You will hear beeping sounds three times

per second, a 'bi' sound twice and a "beep" sound when the measurement is finished. The total measurement takes 3 seconds.

7. Read the temperature on the display.

8. A new measurement can be taken after

the ready symbol ( __._ ) is displayed on the LCD screen.

9. Automatically shuts off after one minute

  • If there is perspiration on the forehead, take the temperature from behind the ear lobe. In this case, disregard point number 5. All of the other points still apply.
  • Brush any hair aside if it covers the ear and wait approxi- mately 30 seconds for a more accurate measurement. Gently place the NFS-100 on the neck directly behind the ear lobe and scan following the directions of the arrows over approximately 1 ~ 2 cm of skin as illustrated for 3 seconds.
  • You should slide the product until you hear the 'beep" sound, which indicates the end of the measurement. It can then be removed from the skin.
  • Normally, the artery behind the ear lobe does not provide a sufficiently accurate reading. However, in the case of a fall in skin temperature due to sweating, taking the temperatu- re from behind the ear lobe may give a more accurate rea- ding. How to use28 How to use Warning Many people may not have an elevated temperature even if they are ill. For the following cases, consult with a medical doctor before using this product.
  • Babies who are under 90 days old.
  • People on steroids, antibiotics or antipyretics.
  • People with compromised immune systems. Caution
  • If a child moves while taking its temperature, it will result in an inaccurate measurement because the probe may have lost contact with the skin. Calm them down and try to take the measurement again.
  • When taking a forehead measurement, slowly move the product from the starting point to the end point during 3 seconds.
  • When taking a second measurement, wait for 30 seconds. A temperature difference between the probe and the skin may result in inaccuracy.
  • Similarly to other thermometers, measurement errors may occur within a range of ±0.1 ~ ±0.2 °C.
  • Measurement should be taken during complete rest in a normal room temperature.
  • For accurate measurements, remove any substances or make-up from the forehead.
  • The temperature between the right and left forehead may be different. Take temperature readings from the same side.
  • Measurements may be incorrect when the low battery ( ) signal is indicated. Replace the battery and take the measurement again.29
  • When measuring liquids, such as water or milk, place the probe as close to the liquid surface as possible (do not immerse it in liquid). Memory feature NFS-100 stores a total of 8 readings. The most recently measured data is automatically stored. To review stored temperatures: Pressing Í/mem will show MEM 1 Pressing Í/mem again will show MEM2 Pressing Í/mem third time will show MEM3 Unstored data cannot be displayed. Pressing Í/mem for 5 seconds dele- tes the memory. How to useHow to use
