Can I install the Pioneer AVIC-F980DAB myself?

Which smartphones are compatible with this system?

It is compatible with iPhone (Lightning and 30-pin), iPod, and Android devices via USB, HDMI, or MHL ports. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.

How to connect a rear view camera?

Connect the light green wire (PARKING BRAKE) and the camera video cable to the designated input. The camera activates automatically in reverse (REVERSE). The image can be mirrored depending on the setting.

Why does the screen display an incorrect position?

Make sure the pink wire (CAR SPEED SIGNAL INPUT) is connected to the vehicle's speed detection circuit. Without it, location errors increase. Also check that the GPS antenna is properly installed.

Can I watch videos while driving?

No, it is illegal in many countries. The product locks video display when the parking brake is not engaged. Navigation remains active for safety reasons.

How to clean the screen and the unit?

Use a soft, dry cloth. Never use solvents, alcohol, or abrasive products as they could damage the surface. Do not spray liquid directly.

What cables are needed to connect an iPhone with Lightning connector?

You need the USB interface cable for iPod/iPhone (CD-IU52) sold separately. For Apple CarPlay, connect the iPhone to USB port 1. For HDMI connection, add a Lightning Digital AV adapter.

What to do if the system does not turn on?

Check the battery connection (12 V) and the fuse. Ensure the ignition switch has an ACC position. If the problem persists, press the RESET button with a pointed object.

Where to install the GPS antenna for better reception?

Install the antenna on a flat surface, preferably on the dashboard or rear shelf, with a clear view of the sky. Avoid cutting or extending the cable. Use the supplied metal plate.

Is the installation manual included?

CAUTION

• Ifyoudecidetoperformtheinstallation yourself,andhavespecialtrainingandexperienceinthemobileelectronicsinstallations,pleasecarefullyfollowallofthestepsintheinstallationmanual.
• Secureallwiringwithcableclampsorelectricaltape.Donotallowanybarewiringtoremainexposed.
• Donotdirectlyconnecttheyellowleadof thisproducttothevehiclebattery.Ifthe leadisdirectlyconnectedtothebattery, enginevibrationmayeventuallycause theinsulationofailatthepointwhere theywirepassesfromthepassengercompartmentintotheenginecompartment.If theyellowlead'sinsulationtearsasaresultofcontactwithmetalparts,short-circuitingcanoccur,resultingin considerabledanger.

damaged, resulting in a short circuitor malfunction and permanent damaget to the product.

• DonotcuttheGPSaerialcabletoshorten itoruseanextensionomakeitlonger. Alteringtheaerialcablecouldresultina shortcircuitormalfunction.
• Donotshortanyleads.Ifyoudo,the protectioncircuit(fuseholder,fuseresistororfilter,etc.)mayfailtoworkproperly.
• Neverfeedpowertootherelectronic productsbucuttingtheinsulationof the powersupplyleadofthisproductandtappingintothelead.Thecurrentcapacity of theleadwillbeexceeded,causingoverheating.

• Attachtheconnectorsoftthesamecolour tothecorrespondingcolouredport,i.e., blueconnectortotheblueport,blackto black,etc.

• Refertotheowner's manualfordetailson connectingthepowerampandotherunits, thenmakeconnectionsaccordingly.

• SinceauniqueBPTLCircuitisemployed, donotdirectlyearththe sideofthespeakerleadorconnectthe sideofan-othersideofthespeakerleadtogether.Be suretoconnectthe sideofthespeaker leadtothe sideofthespeakerleadon thisproduct.

Noticefortheblue/whitelead

Important

Whenthisproductisin"PowerOFF"mode,the controlsignalisalsoturnedoff.If"PowerOFF" modeiscancelled,thecontrolsignalisoutput againandtheaerialisextendedwiththeautoaerialfunction(iftheaerialisbeingused).Becareful sothatthextendederaialdoesnotcomeinto contactwithanyobstacles.

• Whentheignitionswitchisturnedon(ACC ON), a controlsignalisoutputthrough the blue/whitelead. Connecttoanexternal poweramp'systemremotecontrolterminal, theauto-aerialrelaycontrolterminal, ortheaerialboosterpowercontrolterminal (max.300mA12VDC). The controlsignal isoutputthroughtheblue/whitelead, even if theaudiosourceisswitchedoff.
• Besurenottousethisleadasthepower supplyleadfortheexternalpoweramps. Suchconnectioncouldcauseexcessive currentdrainandmalfunction.
• Besurenottousethisleadasthepower supplyleadfortheauto-aerialoraerial booster.Suchconnectioncouldcauseexcessivecurrentdrainandmalfunction.

Pink (CAR SPEED SIGNAL INPUT)

This product is connected here to detect the distance the vehicle travels. Always connect the vehicle's speed detection circuit. Failure to make this connection will increase errors in the vehicle's location display.

WARNING

IMPROPER CONNECTION MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS DAMAGE OR INJURY INCLUDING ELECTRICAL SHOCK, AND INTERFERENCE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE'S ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM, AUTOMATIC GEARBOX AND SPEEDOMETER INDICATION.

CAUTION

It is strongly suggested that the speed pulse wire be connected for accuracy of navigation and better performance.

Note

The position of the speed detection circuit and the position of the handbrake switch vary depending on the vehicle model. For details, consult your authorised Pioneer dealer or an installation professional.

Light green (PARKING BRAKE)

Used to detect the ON/OFF status of the handbrake. This lead must be connected to the power supply side of the handbrake switch.

If this connection is made incorrectly or omitted, certain functions of this product will be unusable.

WARNING

LIGHT GREEN LEAD AT POWER CONNECTOR IS DESIGNED TO DETECT PARKED STATUS AND MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE POWER SUPPLY SIDE OF THE HANDBRAKE SWITCH. IMPROPER CONNECTION OR USE OF THIS LEAD MAY VIOLATE APPLICABLE LAW AND MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DAMAGE.

Violet/white (REVERSE-GEAR SIGNAL INPUT)

This is connected so that this product can detect whether the vehicle is moving forwards or backwards. Connect the violet/white lead to the lead whose voltage changes when the reverse gear is engaged. Unless connected, the sensor may not detect your vehicle travelling forward/backward properly, and thus the position of your vehicle detected by the sensor may be misaligned from the actual position.

Note

When you use a rear view camera, please make sure to connect this lead. Otherwise you cannot switch to the rear view camera picture.

• To avoid the risk of accident and the potential violation of applicable laws, this product should never be used while the vehicle is being driven except for navigation purposes. And, also rear displays should not be in a location where it is a visible distraction to the driver.
• In some countries, the viewing of images on a display inside a vehicle even by persons other than the driver may be illegal. Where such regulations apply they must be obeyed and this product's video source should not be used.
