How to reset my TP-Link TLWPA281 Powerline adapter?

Press and hold the Reset button (using a paperclip) for about 10 seconds until all LEDs turn off and then back on. The reset is then complete.

Why don't I have internet access via my Powerline network?

Check that all Powerline adapters are on the same electrical circuit and that the Powerline LED is on. Make sure Ethernet cables are properly connected and that your internet connection works directly on the router.

How to pair a new Powerline adapter to the existing network?

Press the Pair button on an already connected adapter for 1 second (its Powerline LED blinks). Within 2 minutes, press the Pair button on the new adapter for 1 second. The Powerline LED stays solid when pairing is successful.

Can I plug the Powerline adapter into a power strip?

No, plug it directly into a wall socket. If the adapter has a pass-through socket, you can plug the power strip into it, but not another Powerline adapter.

How to copy my router's Wi-Fi settings to the Powerline extender?

Place the extender near the router. Press the WPS button on your router, then within 2 minutes press the Wi-Fi button on the extender for 1 second. The Wi-Fi LEDs blink and then stay on once copying is successful.

What to do if the Powerline LED blinks or is red?

This indicates a poor signal quality. Move the extender to another power outlet, ideally on the same circuit as the main adapter.

How to manually configure Wi-Fi settings?

Log in to the web interface of the extender (via its IP address) or use the tpPLC app available on Apple Store and Google Play.

Can I add multiple Powerline adapters to the same network?

Yes, you can add up to 16 adapters (according to HomePlug standards). Pair them one by one following the Pair procedure.

What if my extender does not reconnect after moving it?

Ensure all adapters are on the same electrical circuit. Re-pair the extender with the main adapter. Check for interference (dryer, air conditioner) nearby.

Is the device compatible with non-TP-Link routers?

Yes, the Powerline adapter works with any router that has an Ethernet port. The WPS function can be used if the router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup).

1. Connect the adapter to a LAN port of your router using an Ethernet cable.
2. Plug the powerline devices into the wall outlets near each other and on the same electrical circuit.
3. Pair the powerline devices.

A. Press the Pair button on the powerline adapter for 1 second. The Power LED starts blinking.

* If the Power LED does not blink, press the Pair button again.

B. Within 2 minutes, press the Pair button on the powerline extender for 1 second. The Power LED ⏻ starts blinking. When the Powerline LED turns on, it's done.

1. Relocate the powerline extender to a new location. Connect to the Wi-Fi using the SSID and password on the product label.

* A blinking or red Powerline LED 🔒 indicates poor signal strength. Move the extender to another location.

Tips: You can add more powerline devices to the existing powerline network by pairing these devices.

Attention

- Plug the powerline devices directly into the wall outlets but not the power strips.

- For passthrough powerline devices, plug the power strips into the integrated electrical sockets of the powerline devices.

Copy Wi-Fi Settings from Router to Extender

If your router supports WPS, you can follow the steps below to automatically copy the router's Wi-Fi settings (SSID and password) to the powerline extender.

1. Plug in the powerline extender near your router. Press the WPS button on your router.
2. Within 2 minutes, press the Wi-Fi button on the extender for 1 second.
3. When the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi LED and 5GHz Wi-Fi LED on the extender blink quickly for 3 seconds, and then stay on, it's done!

* 5GHz Wi-Fi is not available on single-band products. For multiple-band products, the powerline extender copies by default both 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless settings at the same time. If it fails to copy both, your router may be only able to clone one band at a time. Please check your router's manual for support.

Note: The wireless settings can also be configured through the powerline extender's web interface or through the tpPLC app. You can download the app from the App Store or Google Play, or simply scan the QR code.
