How to turn on the Konig HCDT11 thermometer?

Press the ON/OFF button. A beep sounds and the display shows Lo for about 2 seconds. Then the last measured temperature appears with 'M', then 37.0 °C (98.6 °F). When Lo flashes with °C or °F, the thermometer is ready.

What is the normal body temperature?

Generally, the normal temperature is 37.0 °C (98.6 °F), but it can vary from 36.1 °C (97.0 °F) to 37.2 °C (99.0 °F). Variations are normal depending on activity, time and measurement location.

How to take temperature orally?

Place the probe tip under the tongue, as close as possible to the heat pocket (back of the mouth). Keep the mouth closed. The measurement takes about 30 seconds. Oral temperature is slightly higher (about 0.3 °C) than external temperature.

How to take temperature under the arm (axillary)?

Clean the armpit, place the probe tip under the arm in contact with the skin, hold the thermometer perpendicular and cross the arm over the chest. The measurement takes about 10 seconds. Axillary temperature is generally 0.5 °C lower than oral temperature.

How to take rectal temperature?

Apply a water-soluble lubricant to the probe. Gently insert the probe into the rectum up to 1.25 cm maximum. The measurement takes about 20 seconds. Rectal temperature is about 0.5 °C higher than oral temperature.

What does the 'Lo' display on the thermometer mean?

The Lo display indicates that the measured temperature is below 32.0 °C (89.6 °F). This can occur if the thermometer is not in contact with the body or if the ambient temperature is too low.

What does the 'Hi' display on the thermometer mean?

The Hi display indicates that the measured temperature is above 42.9 °C (109.2 °F). This may be due to overheating or incorrect use.

When and how to replace the battery?

Replace the battery as soon as the low battery symbol appears at the bottom right of the screen. Use an alkaline LR41 or silver oxide SR41 battery (1.55 V). Remove the cover, take out the old battery with a non-metallic object, insert the new battery with the positive (+) side up, then put the cover back.

How to clean the thermometer?

Clean the probe before and after each use with a clean cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol (70-90%) or soapy water. The model is water-resistant, but do not soak it for a long time. Do not sterilize by boiling, gas or steam.

What to do if the thermometer beeps?

The thermometer beeps to signal the end of the measurement. If the temperature is ≤ 37.8 °C (100.0 °F), you will hear 10 long beeps in 10 seconds (normal). If it is > 37.8 °C, you will hear 30 short beeps in 10 seconds (fever alert).

What is a "normal" temperature?

Although the generally accepted “normal” temperature reading is 37.0^ C/98.6°F, temperature readings can vary from 36.1^ C/97.0°F to 37.2^ C/99.0°F and still may be considered “normal”. Variations in temperature can be attributed to activities such as exercise, smoking, eating and drinking. Your temperature is lower in the morning than in the afternoon. Other variations may be due to the location of the temperature reading. While the oral temperature follows the guidelines previously described, a rectal temperature is generally 0.5^ C/1.0°F higher. Conversely, an axillary (under the arm) temperature will be 0.5^ C/1.0°F lower.

How to take your temperature

1. Press ON/OFF button to activate. The unit will beep and display Lo. This LCD display test will last for about 2 seconds.
2. Then, the temperature taken last time will be displayed with an "M" mark in the right corner.
3. 37.0^ C (or 98.6^ F) will appear.
4. When the thermometer displays Lo and flashing ^ C ( ^ F) it's ready for temperature measuring. If the room temperature is higher than 32.0 ^ C (89.6 ^ F), the room temperature will be displayed instead of Lo.
5. The beep will sound when temperature measuring is complete.
6. Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the unit. (The unit will automatically power off approximately ten minutes after use.)

Taking an oral temperature

Place the probe tip under the tongue as near as possible to the heat pocket.

Approximate measuring time: 30 seconds.

Note: Please remember that the oral temperature is a little higher than external temperature (about 0.3°C or 32.54°F).

Suggestion: Close your mouth at least 2 minutes before taking the temperature for a more accurate measuring.

Taking an underarm temperature

Wipe the underarm with a dry towel and place the probe tip under the arm so the tip is touching the skin with the thermometer perpendicular to the body. Put your arm across the chest so the probe tip is covered properly.

Approximate measuring time: 10 seconds.

Note: Underarm temperatures are generally 0.5°C or 32.9°F lower than oral readings.

Suggestion: Close your armpit at least 5 minutes before temperature taking for a more accurate measurement.

Taking a rectal temperature

Apply a water-soluble lubricant to the probe cover. Gently insert the probe (MAXIMUM 12 ) into the rectum.

Approximate measuring time: 20 seconds.

Note: Please remember that the rectal temperature is a little higher than external temperature (about 0.5°C or 32.9°F).

Replacing the battery

The battery in your digital thermometer needs to be replaced when “☐” appears in the lower right corner of the display. Replace the battery with a 1.55 V, LR41 alkaline or SR41 silver oxide type or equivalent.

To replace the battery

1. Pull the battery cover away from the unit.
2. Remove the battery holder.
3. Use a non-metal pointed tool to remove the battery and insert the new battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
4. Replace the battery holder.
5. Carefully slide the battery cover back into place.

Warning: Please properly replace the battery away from small children and heat.

Cleaning instructions

Before and after each use, clean the thermometer with a soft cloth and isopropyl alcohol diluted with water, or wash with COLD soapy water. The unit can be submerged in water or alcohol (waterproof model only). Do not soak for an extended period time or sterilize by boiling method, gas or steam autoclaves.

1. The thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult. It is not a toy for children. Please keep it out of reach of children.
2. Do not walk, run or talk while measuring the temperature.
3. Store the unit in the protective case when not in use.
4. Do not store the unit where it is exposed to direct sunlight, dust or humidity.

Avoid extreme temperatures.

1. Dropping or subjecting your thermometer to strong shocks should be avoided.
2. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, except to replace the battery.
