Start-up of the device/Introduction

  • Read the operating instructions thoroughly before the start-up!
  • Select an appropriate location for the device and loudspeakers. An example of an appropriate location is a flat (horizontal), dry, non-slip surface on which it can be operated without difficulty.
    • Make sure that the device is adequately ventilated!
  • Connect the loudspeakers to the back of the music centre to the sockets market „SPEAKER R and L“ (25).
  • Insert the plug into a properly installed 230 V, 50 Hz power socket. Please ensure that the mains voltage corresponds to the information on the type plate.

Remote Control Batteries

  • Open the lid of the battery compartment on the back of the remote control.
  • Insert 2 batteries of type R03 „AAA” 1.5 V (not supplied). Ensure that the polarity is correct (see the floor of the battery compartment)!
  • Close the battery compartment.
  • If the remote control is not used for a prolonged period, remove the batteries in order to prevent battery acid leaking.
  • Different battery types or new and used batteries must not be used together.

CAUTION:

Batteries are not to be disposed of together with domestic wastes. Dispose of the used batteries at the relevant collection bin or at your dealer's.

WARNING:

Do not expose the batteries to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Never throw batteries into the fire. There is a danger of explosion!

CD deck transport protection

- Please open the CD compartment (17) by pressing the button (8).

- Remove the transport protection from the CD player if present before use.

Headphone Socket (20)

Please use headphones with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug; these should be inserted into the „☐“ socket. The loudspeakers are then switched off.

General Operation

i NOTE:

Some keys are to be found both on the device itself and on the remote control. Keys with the same designation have the same function.

Switch-off

The machine is switched off when the function selector switch (16) is turned to the OFF position. The POWER control lamp goes off. Unplug the device.

Volume

You can set the desired volume using the -/+ VOLUME control (2). Keep the corresponding button pressed down until the desired volume has been reached.

Infrared remote control

For operating the music centre from a distance of up to 5 metres without a lead. If the range of the remote control is reduced, the batteries have to be replaced. During operation ensure that there is nothing blocking the direct line between the remote control and the sensor (14) on the machine.

USB Connexion (19)

This device has been developed in accordance with the latest technical developments in the USB field. Unfortunately the large number of different types of USB storage media on offer today makes it impossible to guarantee full compatibility with all USB storage media. For this reason there may be problems in rare cases with playing back from USB storage media. This is not a malfunction of the device.

  1. Turn the function selector switch (16) to the CD/USB/SD position.
  2. Connect a USB storage medium.
  3. Press the SOURCE button (3/5). The letters "appear in the display. The device is now in USB mode. After a few seconds the total number of folders and songs/tracks is shown in the display.
  4. Press ▶II (7/3) to play back the music data.
  5. For operating instructions please see the section "Playing CDs/MP3s".
  6. If the USB connection is no longer required, press the SOURCE button twice (3/5) button twice. The word CD appears in the display. The device is now in CD/MP3 mode.

CAUTION:

Before you remove the USB storage medium, turn the function selector switch (16) to TUNER.

SD/MMC Card Slot (18)

  1. If you would like to play back data on an SD/MMC card, insert it into the appropriate opening.
  2. Press the SD/MMC card into the opening provided until it clicks into place.
  3. Turn the function selector switch (16) to the CD/USB/SD position.
  4. Press the SOURCE button twice (3/5). The letters „” appear in the display. The device is now in SD/MMC mode. After a few seconds the total number of folders and songs/tracks is shown in the display.
  5. Press ▶ II (7/3) to play back the music data.
  6. For operating instructions please see the section "Playing CDs/MP3s".
  7. Is the SD/MMC card slot is no longer required, press the SOURCE button (3/5) once. The word CD appears in the display. The device is now in CD/MP3 mode.
  8. Press the SD/MMC card again to remove it.

Listening to the Radio

  1. Turn the function selector switch (16) to the TUNER position.
  2. Select the desired frequency band with the band selection switch (15).
  3. Tune in the desired station with the station adjustment knob TUNING (12).
  4. The FM ST control lamp (10) only lights up when you have selected FM stereo and the station is being received in stereo quality. If reception is too weak and there is noise on the station being received, this lamp will flicker. Try to improve reception by turning and bending or twisting and altering the length of the antenna (24). Where reception is bad we recommend switching to FM (Mono).
  5. An aerial is integrated into the device for the reception of AM stations. The machine can be aligned to the station by turning it. In this frequency band programs are transmitted in "mono" only.

Using the Record Player

  1. Push the function selection switch (16) to PHONO.
  2. Open the hood (33) by pulling the lid on the front upwards.
  3. Place a record on the turntable. If you are using a 45 rpm single, first place the adapter (puck) (26) on the central spindle.
  4. Release the catch on the pick-up arm support (29) and remove the stylus protector.
  5. Select the appropriate speed with the speed selection switch (28).
  6. Use the pick-up lever (27) to raise the pick-up. Guide the pick-up over the outer edge of the record with the help of the guide lever (30). The turntable begins to rotate automatically. Use the pick-up lever again to lower the pick-up.
  7. AUTO STOP ON/OFF switch (22): At the end of the record the turntable stops rotating automatically if you have turned the AUTO STOP ON/OFF switch on the back of the device to „ON“.

i NOTE:

With some records it is possible that the turntable stops rotating before the end of the record is reached as the switch off end is located outside the radius. In this case turn the AUTO STOP ON/OFF switch to „OFF“. With the setting the turntable continues to turn when the pick-up is still on the pick-up arm support.

  1. When you have fi nished listening to records place the pick-up arm carefully on the support, lock the catch and replace the stylus protector.

Playing CDs / MP3

This is how you play a CD

  1. Turn the function selector switch (16) to the „CD/USB/SD" position.
  2. In order to open the CD compartment, press the ▲ button (8).
  3. Insert a CD with the printed side facing upwards into the CD compartment and press the ▲ button (8) again in order to re-close the CD compartment.
  4. The word CD appears in the display. The device is now in CD/MP3 mode.
  5. After a few seconds the total number of songs/tracks is shown in the display. In the case of a CD in MP3 format the total number of folders and songs/tracks is shown after a few seconds.
  6. Press the ▶ II button (7) (3 on the remote control) in order to play the CD. The CD will play from the fi rst title. The track currently being played, ▶ CD or ▶ CD, MP3 are shown in the display.
  7. To remove a CD, press the ■ key (7) (4 on the remote control), open the CD deck with the ▲ key (8) and take out the CD carefully.

Please keep the CD compartment closed at all times.

i NOTE:

  • If a disk has being inserted correctly, or if there is no disk inserted, "CD READ" fl ashes in the display and the word "NO DISC" appears.
  • Playback of CDs produced by the user cannot be guaranteed due to the large variety of software and CD media available.

Description of the CD buttons

▶II (7/3)

You can briefly interrupt and resume playback using this button. The playing time that has elapsed fl ashes in the display. Pressing again continues playback.

SOURCE (3/5)

Press this button to switch between the CD/MP3 mode and the USB/CARD mode. The word CD, "or," appears in the display.

I◀◀ SKIP / SEARCH▶▶ I (6/8)

With an audio CD or a CD in MP3 format playing:

With SKIP / SEARCH▶▶I you can jump to the next or previous track etc.

  • If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks (the sound is muted).
  • If the button is kept pressed down in stop mode the machine quickly plays through the songs until the desired track is reached. When the ▶II button is pressed the track begins to play back.

The I ◀◀ SKIP / SEARCH button can be used as follows:

Press once = This starts the current track again from the beginning.

Press twice = This jumps back to the previous track.

Press three times = This plays the song before etc. If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks (the sound is muted). If the button is kept pressed down in stop mode the machine quickly plays through the songs until the desired track is reached. When the ▶II button is pressed the track begins to play back.

■ STOP (7/4)

The CD stops.

i NOTE:

Keep the ▶ II / ■ button (7) on the device pressed down in order to stop playback.

REP/INTRO/RAN (4) (9 on the remote control)

Press once: (the „☐“ emits a fixed light) the current track is repeated continuously.

Press twice: (the „ALL“ emits a fixed light) the whole CD is played continuously.

Press three times: the display contains the word RANDOM and the track number that is to be played first. All tracks are played back in random order.

Press four times: Every track on the CD is played for 10 seconds.

Press five times: all functions are cancelled. The normal play mode is resumed.

Only for CDs in MP3 format

Press once: the current track is repeated continuously („) lights up in the display.

Press twice: the whole CD is played continuously („ALL“ lights up in the display).

Press three times: the selected album of the MP3 CD is repeated continuously ( „FOLDER“ appears in the display). With the FOLDER

UP / FOLDER

▼ / ▲ (5/7 on the remote

control) you can select the individual folders.

Press four times: Every track on the CD is played for 10 seconds.

Press fi ve times: the display contains the word RANDOM, CD, MP3 and the track number that is to be played fi rst. All tracks are played back in random order.

Press six times: the function is deactivated and the CD is played in the normal mode.

FIND (10 on the remote control)

For a CD in MP3 format:

You can search for the content on the CD (if burned on the MP3) as follows:

Press once: The name of the first track with the initial

„A“ is shown in the display. If the word „A-NONE“ appears there is no track available with the initial „A“. With the ▶▶1 / I◀◀ buttons (6/8) it is possible to select the first track of the following initial “A-Z” and “0-9”.

i NOTE:

Only one track of an initial letter can be displayed in each case. Even if there is more than one track with the same initial on the CD, only one track is displayed.

Press twice: The track of the first folder appears in the display. Use the ▶▶1 / I◀◀ buttons (6/8) to select the desired folder and press the button. Playback begins with the first track of this folder.

Press three times: The display changes to normal operation.

INFO (1 on the remote control)

If ID-3 Tag information has been stored this appears in the display in the form of an LED ticker display. Press the button once more to switch to function off again.

FOLDER ▼ (7 on the remote control)

Press this button during playback to change to a album further down. Then the CD begins to play back automatically. If the button is pressed in stop mode the first track number of the selected folder appears in the display. Then start playback with the ▶II button.

FOLDER UP / ▲ (5) (7 on the remote control)

Press this button during playback to change to a higher folder. See the above paragraph for the following step.

Encoding Function

This function allows you to convert MP3 CDs and the data on an audio CD or record to MP3 format in real time and store it on a connected MP3 player or an inserted memory card.

i NOTE:

The device automatically creates a new folder on the target medium as soon as you have pressed the REC button.

  1. Select the desired playback source with the function selector switch (16) (CD/USB/SD or PHONO). Now insert a record or CD.
  2. CDs/MP3s: Press the REC button (1/2) in stop mode in order to record the entire CD.
    Records: Start playback as described under „Using the Record Player“ and then press the REC button.
  3. The device now checks whether an MP3 player or memory card has been inserted. USB or CARD fl ashes in the display. Recording begins automatically.

i NOTE:

  • If an MP3 CD has been inserted, the device also checks whether there is enough storage space on the target medium.
  • If you have inserted both an MP3 player and a memory card, USB and CARD both appear in the display. With the ▶▶▶ I / I◀◀ buttons (6/8) you can select the target medium.
  • If the REC button is pressed while a track on the CD is being played back, only this track is recorded. The device stops after the CD track has finished playing.
  • If a recording is made from a record the device does not automatically detect the end of the track.

  • The letters „REC“ flash in the display and the symbol for the target medium is shown.

i NOTE:

In the case of MP3 CDs the copying status is displayed by means of a percentage figure.

  1. Press the REC button to end or interrupt recording.

i NOTE:

Recording on USB or CARD is not possible during programmed playback.

Programmed Play

This can be used to program any desired sequence of tracks.

  1. Keep the ▶ II / ■ button (7) on the device pressed down or press the ■ button (4) on the remote control.
  2. Press the PROGRAM key (11 on the remote control). "PROG" fl ashes in the display and „P01" (memory preset) is shown. Use the ▶▶▶I / I◀◀buttons (6/8) to select the desired track and then press the PROGRAM button again. The display changes to memory slot P02.
  3. Select the next track with the ▶▶▶I / I◀◀ key and press the PROGRAM key again. Repeat the procedure until all the desired tracks are selected.

i NOTE:

If a disc is incorrectly inserted - or no disc has been inserted - the symbol „FULL“ and the word „no“ appear in the display.

  1. Press th▶II key (7/3). The playback starts. The selected track numbers are shown in the display in the correct order and the symbol ▶ CD or ▶ CD, MP3 and PROG. light up. Press this button to pause briefly the playback.
  2. If the ▶II / ■ button (7) is pressed down or the ■ button (4) pressed once, playback is stopped but the programme is retained.
  3. To resume the playback of the program press first the PROGRAM key once and then the ▶II key (7/3).
  4. In order to delete the programme, hold the ▶II / ■ button (7) down twice or press the ■ button (4) twice. The PROG. control lamp goes out.

The device stops automatically once the entire sequence of programmed tracks is completed. The programmed order of tracks remains in the memory until you change to a different mode, remove the CD from the CD compartment or switch off the device.

It is also possible to combine the programmed tracks with the REPEAT function. After you have programmed and started the device, please press the REP/INTRO/RAN (4) (9 on the remote control) up to four times and then you can use the functions as described under „REP/INTRO/RAN“.

Playing back Music in MP3 Format

With this device it is possible to play back pieces of music in MP3 format. The device also supports all standard CD types: CD, CD-RW, CD-R.

This machine of is able to play MP3 CDs. Up to 200 tracks can be compressed and stored on these CDs. Your machine detects an MP3 CD automatically (the total number of tracks and MP3s appears in the display). If you would like to play one of these CDs, proceed as described under „Playing CDs“. Tracks can be programmed as described under „Playing Back Programmed Tracks“.

Please note:

There are a number of different recording and compression methods, as well as quality differences between CDs and self-recorded CDs.

Furthermore, the music industry does not adhere to fixed standards (copy protection).

For these reasons it is possible that in rare cases there are problems with the playback of CDs and MP3 CDs. This is not a malfunction of the device.

i NOTE: Compact Disks

- This device is able to play CDs with a diameter of 8 cm and 12 cm.

i NOTE:

Only place one disc in the CD compartment at a time.

  • Only audio CDs and CD-R/RW disks can be played on this machine.
  • Always place the CD into the CD compartment with the label facing upwards. Compact discs can only be played on one side.
  • Fingerprints and dust should be carefully removed from the recorded side of the CD (the side without the label) with a soft cloth. Wipe off in straight lines from the centre to the edge.
    • After being played, CDs should be returned to their case so that they do not become scratched.
  • Do not expose CDs to direct sunlight, high humidity levels or prolonged high temperatures in order to prevent them from warping.
  • Do not adhere any paper to the CD or write on it.
  • Do not spray any cleaning agents or antistatic sprays on to the CD as in the case of phonographs.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Always remove the mains plug before cleaning the machine.
- Any marks on the surface can be wiped off with a slightly damp cloth without any additives.
