How to turn on and off the phone?

To turn on, press and hold the ON/OFF button. To turn off, press and hold the same button, then select Turn off and confirm.

How to insert the SIM card?

Use the notch to remove the back cover. Pull out the SIM card tray and install a micro SIM or a nano SIM. Put the tray back and close the cover.

How to configure WiFi?

From the status bar, swipe down to access quick settings. Enable WiFi and select the desired network. Enter the password if necessary.

What to do if the phone does not turn on?

Check that the battery is properly installed and charged. Try charging the phone for at least 20 minutes. If the problem persists, remove and reinsert the battery, then turn it on again.

How to import my contacts from the SIM card?

Open the Contacts app, press the Menu button, then select Import/Export. Choose Import from SIM card and select your Google account to save the contacts.

How to lock the screen with a pattern?

Go to Settings > Security > Screen lock. Choose Pattern and draw your pattern. Confirm it. From then on, the screen will lock after inactivity.

How to create a Google account?

Go to Settings > Accounts > Add account. Select Google and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your information. A Google account allows access to the Play Store and syncs your data.

How to switch between open apps?

Double-press the Home button to show recent apps. Swipe an app left or right to close it, or tap on it to open.

How to clean the touchscreen?

Use a soft, dry cloth (microfiber) to clean the screen. Avoid abrasive products or moisture. Do not press too hard to avoid damaging the screen.

Where to find the PUK code if my SIM card is blocked?

Contact your network operator to get the PUK code. This code is required to unlock the SIM card after three incorrect PIN entries.

Opening

Use the notch to remove the back cover.

Do not bend or twist the back cover excessively. Doing so may damage the cover.

Inserting a SIM card

For your SIM card, slide out the sim card tray holder and install your micro SIM card (1) or your nano SIM card (2) into the holder.

Replace the tray holder.

Inserting a Memory card

For your Memory card, slide it facing downwards in the slot TF (3). Closing

Replace the back cover clicking it back into position.

Tip:

Before using your device for the first time, charge completely its battery.

Getting started

Turn ON

1. Press and hold the ON/OFF button to turn on the device. When you turn on your device, a PIN code may be requested.
2. Type the PIN code supplied with your SIM card.

Beware of typing a wrong PIN code. 3. Select OK

Through the wizard

The first time you start up your ARCHOS, the installation wizard will help you set up your device:

• Language
• Date & time WiFi connection
• Location service options

Turn OFF

To turn off your device, press and hold the ON/OFF button, and then select Power off > OK.

Sound & Notification profiles

1. When the device is turned on, press and hold the ON/OFF button.
2. Select an option.

Touch screen actions:

Tap: touch once to select or launch a menu, option, or application.

Tap and hold: tap an item and hold it for more than 2 seconds.

Drag: tap an item and move it to a new location.

Double-tap: tap an item twice quickly.

Flick: briskly scroll up, down, left, or right to move through lists or screens.

Pinch: place two of your fingers far apart, and then pinch them together.

Tip:

Your device goes in standby mode when you do not use it for a specified period of time. To wake up your device, press the ON/OFF button.

To set the duration, go to Settings > Display > Sleep.

3G & WiFi connection

3G connection

With your SIM card, you should be connected to the Internet without any further setup. The ARCHOS will only have signal if you are in an area covered by your provider's 3G network. When connected to the 3G network, the 3G icon is displayed in the status bar.

Activating the mobile data

To be able to access the Internet, the mobile data icon must be activated.

1. Touch and hold the time & battery icons to reveal the status bar. 2. Pull the white line down to display the status dashboard.
2. Touch the status dashboard icon.
3. Touch the mobile data icon to activate it.

Tip:

If you encounter connection problems, see the FAQs on www.archos.com or contact your 3G network connection provider.

WiFi connection

WARNING: Make sure that you are in a WiFi zone. You can access the WiFi settings quickly from the status bar.

1. Touch and hold the time & battery icons to reveal the status bar. 2. Pull the blue line down to display the status dashboard.
2. Touch the status dashboard icon.
3. Touch the "Settings" icon to open the settings menu.
4. In the "Wireless & networks" section, if the WiFi is off, slide the WiFi switch to the "ON" position. Once the WiFi is on, the ARCHOS will scan for WiFi networks in range.
5. Touch "WiFi" to display available networks.
6. Touch the name of the network you want to connect to. Private networks are shown with a lock icon and will require you to enter your password.

Google & Contacts

Adding a Google account

A Google account lets you take full advantage of any Google apps and services that you may want to use.

1. Go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Add account".
2. Select the account type "Google" to add.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter information about the account. Once the account is created, you can access Play Store, Gmail, Hangouts, Maps and many other apps.

Synchronizing info

Information must be synced to be saved. Your data is backed up on Google servers.

1. Go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Google".
2. Select your account.

The list of information that can be synced is displayed.

Automatic sync should be activated. To launch the sync, press the Menu button, then Sync now. You can get them back in case of loss of your device or SIM card. When your Google account is added to a new device, all your saved information is transferred.

Saving your contacts

When your contacts are saved, they are always available on the web and can be synced to any Android phone that's set up with your Google account.

1. Install the SIM card with your contacts in your phone.
2. From a Home or All Apps screen, select the People app
3. Touch the Menu button > "Import/Export".
4. In Import/export contacts, select "Import from SIM card".
5. Select your Google account.
6. Check contacts to be imported and validate.
7. Once the contacts are imported in the Google account, go to "Settings" > "Accounts" > "Google".
8. Select your Google account.
9. Select the Menu button, then "Sync now". Your contacts are saved to via your Google account.

Hints & tips for Android™

The extended home screen:

You have by default one home screen. You can create as many home

screens you want. Select an app icon and slide it right. A new home

screen will be created. Select another app icon and slide it right to create

a third home screen.

Moving a home screen item:

Touch and hold your finger onto it until the positioning gridlines appear,

then slide it to the desired location, and release your finger.

Removing a home screen item:

Touch and hold it, slide your finger towards the top of the screen and

drop it over the "Remove" icon.

Uninstalling an item:

From the "All apps" screens, touch and hold it, slide your finger towards

the top of the screen and drop it over "Uninstall" bin.

Creating application folders:

Drop one app icon over another on a home screen and the two icons will be combined.

Widgets:

Touch and hold your finger on your home screen. Touch "Widgets".

Changing your wallpaper:

Hold your finger on a home screen at an empty location, then choose from the list.

Locking the touchscreen:

From the quick settings dashboard in the status bar, touch "Settings". In "Settings", scroll down and touch "Security", Touch "Screen lock", Touch the type of lock you would like to use. After you set a lock, a lock screen is displayed whenever your screen wakes up, requesting the pattern, pin or other specified key.

Troubleshooting

My phone is frozen or cannot switch on

Check the battery contacts, remove and reinstall your battery, then turn your phone on. Check the battery power level, charge for at least 20 minutes.

My phone cannot connect to a network or "No service" is displayed

Try connecting in another location. Verify the network coverage with your operator.

Unable to make outgoing calls

Make sure your phone is connected to a network, and the network is not overloaded or unavailable.

Unable to receive incoming calls

Make sure your phone is switched on and connected to a network (check for overloaded or unavailable network).

SIM card PIN locked

Contact your network operator to obtain the PUK code (Personal Unblocking Key).

To configure a new 3G network:

On your device, tap Settings.

Select Wireless & networks > More... > Mobile networks.

Select Network settings. In Network operators, select your operator.

In Access Point Names, select the correct access point name and enter the exact connection parameters provided by your 3G provider.

Inserting the memory card

To insert the memory card, insert it into the slot (3) on the left side.

Removal

Push the card in until it clicks, then release it to eject.

Tips.

Before first use, charge the battery.

Silent mode, Vibrate, Sound

Touch and hold: Touch an element and hold it for at least 2 seconds.

Drag: Touch an element and move it to a new location.

Double tap: Quickly touch an element twice.

Rotate the device quickly to the left, down, right, or left to scroll through the list or content of the menu.

Settings: Separate two fingers, then bring them together in a pinching motion.

TIPS: IF YOU USE THE DEVICE FOR A LONG TIME, THE SCREEN TURNS OFF AUTOMATICALLY. TO TURN ON THE SCREEN, PRESS THE POWER BUTTON. TO SET THE TIMEOUT, GO TO Settings | Display > Sleep.

Connecting 3G & Wi-Fi

Connecting to 3G networks

After installing the SIM card, connecting to the Internet does not require further configuration. The ARCHOS device automatically establishes the connection when you are in the coverage area of your operator's 3G network. The device connects automatically. When connecting to a 3G network, the 3G icon is displayed in the status bar.

Activating mobile data

To have access to the Internet, you must activate the mobile data plan.

1. Consult your operator to subscribe to a data plan, in order to use the connection.
2. 1. Pull the notification bar down to display the notification panel. 2. Select the icon 17. 3. Activate the mobile data icon.

Tip:

Wi-Fi

Make sure you are in a Wi-Fi zone. Access to Wi-Fi settings is available from the status bar.

1. Press the settings icon to access settings.
2. If Wi-Fi is disabled, in the Wireless & networks section, move the Wi-Fi switch to the ON position. After enabling Wi-Fi, the ARCHOS device will perform a Wi-Fi network scan within a few seconds.
3. Select Wi-Fi.
4. Select the network you want to connect to. Private networks are displayed with a lock icon, and you will need to enter a password for them.

Google account and contacts

Adding a Google account

A Google account allows you to take advantage of all the Google services you want to use.

1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Add account.
2. Select the type of account to add: Google.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to enter your account information. Once the account is created, you will have access to Play Store, Gmail, Hangouts, Maps, and many other applications.

Synchronizing information

Your information is synchronized automatically. Your data will be backed up on Google's servers.

1. To access the Settings > Accounts > Google section, go to Settings > Accounts > Google.
2. Select an account. A list of data that can be synchronized is displayed. You should enable the auto-sync function. To start synchronization, press the Menu button and then select Sync now. With the synchronization function, you can restore data in case of device or SIM card loss. When registering an account on a new device, all information saved on it will be loaded.

Getting to know AndroidTM

Home button:

Here, by long-pressing the home screen, you can create a number of desktop screens that you want. Select an application and drag it to the right. A new home screen will be added. Select another application and drag it to the right for a third home screen.

List of home screen elements:

Touch an element and hold your finger until a positioning menu appears, then move it to the desired position and release your finger.
