The full bean container can make eight cups of coffee two to three times. • Fill the water tank. The removable tank can be filled directly at the tap. Alternatively use the glass jug to pour the water into the tank in the appliance. The required amount of water can be seen on the water level indicator on the tank. • Remove the filter holder horizontally from its holder and insert the coffee filter . For good flavour and the best fit in the filter holder, we recommend using Melitta® coffee filters. • Place the filter holder with coffee filter on the left of the housing recess under the grinder . 3.2 Grinding • Activate the grinder with a long press on the GRIND button. The LED indicator for the GRIND button will start flashing rapidly. • Set the required amount of coffee by briefly pressing the cup selection button . Each time you press the button, the corresponding LED display changes to the next number of cups. Setting the grinding time indirectly sets the grinder for the required quantity of coffee. • Ensure that the number of cups you select matches the amount of water in the water tank. Please note that all the water from the water tank is used to make the coffee. If the number of cups and the amount of water do not match, this can lead to the coffee not being the way you want it. • The strength can also be varied individually for each number of cups. Briefly press the coffee strength button to change the corresponding LED display. The display shows 1 for mild, 2 for ideal and 3 for strong. The grind time is changed accordingly. • Grinding is not always the same for different coffees with different roasts. If the grind quantity does not meet your individual requirements in any of the settings, a further fine adjustment of the grind quantity is possible (see 3.5 fine adjustment of grind quantity). • With the slider on the upper grinder housing you can set the desired grind degree for the coffee. The slider has three settings for fine, medium and coarse . Intermediate positions can also be selected. • After setting this, start the grinding process by briefly pressing the GRIND button. The GRIND button starts flashing slowly. If the bean container is not inserted correctly, a short warning tone sounds
• The grinder grinds the set quantity of coffee directly into the filter holder and switches off automatically when it has ground the required quantity. • Remove the filter holder from the appliance and level the ground coffee in the filter by shaking the filter holder slightly. • Insert the filter holder back onto the upper appliance holder Make sure that it clicks audibly into place. Note: • To ensure proper functioning of the grinder, do not use caramelized coffee beans. • Do not pour ground coffee into the bean container. • The appliance has an overload safety function of the grinder, which protects the grinder against damage by foreign objects in the coffee beans. If you hear a loud chattering, unknown noise during the grinding process, switch the appliance off and clean the grinder as described in point 6.2. 3.3 Brewing • After the grinder switches off, the brewing mode is activated. The BREW LED starts flashing quickly. • For perfect coffee we recommend pre-brewing the coffee. Briefly press the PRE-BREW button before starting brewing to activate this setting for the next coffee preparation. The PRE-BREW button lights up continuously and at the beginning of brewing the water supply is briefly stopped after the coffee has been moistened. Pressing the button again deactivates pre-brewing. The last setting is saved for the next coffee preparation. • Start making coffee by briefly pressing the BREW button. The BREW button starts flashing slowly. If the appliance beeps three times during this process, there is no water in the water tank. • During brewing, the water is heated and flows through the rotating spout onto the ground coffee . The appliance stores different brewing profiles depending on the number of cups selected. The ground coffee is evenly moistened by different rotations for each brewing profile. • It is also possible to manually control the direction and time of rotation during brewing (see 3.6 Manual extraction control) • The end of the brewing process is indicated acoustically by a short signal tone. The BREW button now lights up continuously, indicating the warm-keeping phase. • The hot plate keeps the coffee hot and then switches off automatically after 40 minutes to avoid unnecessary power consumption. Of course you can also switch off the device manually at any time by pressing the BREW button for longer than 1 sec. • The drip stop prevents coffee dripping when you remove the jug from the machine. • By removing the filter holder the coffee filter can be disposed of easily. 3.4 Using already ground coffee • If you want to use already ground coffee, prepare the filter holder as described under 3.1. • Put 6 g per cup into the coffee filter and push it back onto the upper holder. • Activate the appliance with a long press on the BREW button.
• Adjust the number of cups to the amount of water and coffee used.
• Start making coffee by briefly pressing the BREW button. The LED indicator for the BREW button will start flashing slowly and the coffee will be prepared as described in 3.3. • epos® was tested according to the “Coffee Brewer Certification Program” by the European Coffee Brewing Centre (ECBC). To reach the ECBC Gold Cup Standard use 60 g of ground coffee with 1 l of water. 3.5 Fine adjustment of grind quantity • The number of cups and the coffee strength setting determines the grinding quantity. Since each individual perceives coffee strength differently, it is possible to finely adjust the default settings when the grinder is activated. • A long press on the coffee strength button activates the fine adjustment. LED 2 on the coffee strength indicator lights up. • A subsequent short press on the strength button displays LED 3. In this setting, the grind time determined by the number of cups and the strength setting is increased by 10%. This increases the quantity of coffee that is ground. • A subsequent short press on the coffee strength button displays LED 2. This shortens the grind time by 10% and reduces the quantity of coffee that is ground. • Press and hold the coffee strength button to save the required setting. 3.6 Manual extraction control • It is possible to control extraction manually after starting the brewing process. • With a long press on the coffee strength button manual extraction control is switched on and depending on the current direction of rotation of the spout, LED 1 or LED 3 on the coffee strength display starts to flash. • If LED1 flashes, the spout rotates clockwise and the outer area of the ground coffee is moistened. LED 3 indicates the opposite direction of rotation and the central area of the ground coffee is moistened. • The direction of rotation of the spout can be changed by briefly pressing the coffee strength button. • The direction of rotation can be changed as often as required. Manual extraction control can be stopped with a long press on the coffee strength button. The appliance automatically continues the extraction control set before brewing by selection of the number of cups and coffee strength.
4. Warm keeping / Automatic switch off
Keeping the coffee warm for a longer time on the hot plate changes the taste of the coffee. To avoid this, you should enjoy your coffee as fresh as possible immediately after brewing. Keeping the coffee warm unnecessarily also consumes valuable energy.
If you nevertheless want to keep the coffee warm, the appliance switches off automatically 40 minutes after brewing. During warming up, the BREW button lights up continuously. You can also switch off the hot plate manually by pressing and holding the BREW button for longer than 1 second. If the appliance is not used, it switches off automatically after 5 minutes.Your last settings are saved automatically.
You can then reactivate the appliance by pressing and holding (>1sec.) the BREW or GRIND button.
By pressing the GRIND or BREW button again for a long time (>1sec.) you can switch from the grinding to the brewing function or vice versa.
Depending on the hardness of the water used, the calcification of the machine increases each time you brew coffee. The appliance indicates this by illuminating the CALC display in red . When you see this, descale the unit as soon as possible. Please use a commercially available descaler. We recommend the use of Melitta® “Anti Calc Liquid for Filter Coffee &

• Prepare the descaling liquid according to the manufacturer‘s instructions and pour it into the water tank. • Place the jug on the hotplate. • Activate the appliance with a long press (>1sec) on the BREW button, just as you would when making coffee. • A subsequent short press of the BREW button starts the descaling process. You do not need to take other settings into account in this process. • Once about half of the liquid has passed through the unit, stop the process by briefly pressing the BREW button. • Wait 10 minutes for the residual descaling liquid to remove limescale from the machine. • Then activate the appliance again with a short press on the BREW button, and let the remaining liquid run through the appliance. • When you hear a beep, press and hold the BREW button to turn off the appliance. • Empty the jug. 5.2 Rinsing process after descaling • To remove any remaining descaler residue, the machine must be rinsed after descaling. • After a short cooling time, fill the water tank to the 8-cup mark. • Activate the appliance, switch it on and let all the water run through the appliance. • When you hear a beep, press and hold (>1sec) the BREW button to turn off the appliance. • If the appliance has been completely descaled during the decalcification process, the CALC light no longer lights up during the rinsing process. If the CALC light does light up, the calcification of the appliance was so advanced that one decalcification process was not sufficient to completely decalcify the heating element. In this is the case repeat the decalcification and rinsing process. • Rinse the glass jug.
