Frequently Asked Questions - LIVE-GSH8T AIRLIVE

How to install the AIRLIVE LIVE-GSH8T switch?
Remove the switch and accessories from the packaging. Place the rubber feet on the bottom. Connect the power supply; the Power LED should light up. Connect your devices to the ports: use a CAT5 twisted pair cable for 10/100 Mbps connections and CAT5e for the Gigabit port.
What to do if the Power LED does not light up?
Check that the AC adapter is properly connected to the switch and to a working power outlet. Test with another outlet if possible. If the LED remains off, the adapter may be defective.
How to interpret the Link/Act LEDs?
The Link/Act LED is green. Solid on: connection established. Blinking: sending or receiving data. Off: no connection. Check the cable and that the remote device is powered on.
What does the FDX/Col LED mean?
The FDX/Col LED is yellow. Solid on: the port is in Full Duplex mode. Off: Half Duplex mode. Blinking: collisions detected in Half Duplex mode. Some blinking activity is normal.
Which cable to use for a Gigabit connection?
For the Gigabit port, use a twisted pair cable of category 5 (CAT5) or higher (CAT5e, CAT6) in UTP or STP. Maximum distance is 100 meters. The switch supports auto-MDI/MDI-X, so a straight or crossover cable works.
Can I use this switch to create VLANs?
The LIVE-GSH8T model does not have a VLAN selector. For VLAN segmentation, refer to a model like the Live-FSH16T+ which includes a hardware selector. Here, all ports are in the same broadcast domain.
My network slows down or crashes, what to do?
Check that no network loop is formed (do not connect two ports of the switch together). Ensure that the cable distance does not exceed 100 meters. Verify that all devices are on the same IP segment (e.g., 192.168.0.x). Avoid using a device in 10 Mbps Full-Duplex without auto-negotiation.
How to check my IP address in Windows?
Under Windows NT/2000/XP, open the command prompt and type IPCONFIG. Under Windows 9x, run WINIPCFG. Your computer's IP address is displayed. It must be in the same range as other devices to communicate.
Does the switch heat up normally?
Yes, slight heating is normal. Ensure the switch is placed in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not place objects on top of it.

VLAN Selector (Live FSH16T+ only)

For normal operation, please make sure your VLAN switch is in "OFF" Position

AIRLIVE LIVE-GSH8T - VLAN Selector (Live FSH16T+ only) - 1

Live-FSH16T+ is equipped with VLAN selector switch in the back panel. When activated, each port will be in its own VLAN group with 2 sharing ports. Ports in different VLAN groups cannot see each other. However, everyone can see the sharing port. Please make sure your VLAN selector is in "OFF" position if you are not using the VLAN function.

ON: Every port in its own VLAN group sharing Port 8 and 16
OFF: VLAN function off, the switch operates in normal mode

Connectivity Rules

Please avoid forming a network loop (see the diagram on the right) when connecting the cables. A network loop can cause the network to shutdown..
The maximum cable distance is 100 meter
Always check the LED lights for trouble shooting
Computers and network devices must be in the same IP subnet in order to see each other. For example, 198.168.0.1 can not see 192.192.1.1 for Class C subnet. You can find out the computer's IP address by typing "IPCONFIG" in WinNT/2000/XP's command line. For Win9x, run "WINIPCFG".
- Avoid operating device in 10Mbps full duplex mode if the device does not have auto-negotiation function.
