USER MANUAL YM62 BREIL

When reading this instruction booklet, keep the watch diagram on the left unfolded and in full view. The symbols (A, B, etc.) on the diagram are those referred to in the section describing the operating instructions.

Thank you very much for purchasing a BREIL WATCH. To ensure its correct use, please read these instructions carefully.

In order to be able to make full use of the guarantee service (subject to the guarantee terms), please ensure that the Breil international guarantee card is supplied with the watch at the time of purchase.

SETTING THE TIME AND ADJUSTING

CHRONOGRAPH HAND POSITION

This watch is so designed that the time setting, the alarm hand adjustment and the chronograph hand position adjustment are all made with the crown at the second click position (2).

Once the crown is pulled out to the second click, be sure to make all the adjustments at the same time.

[Time setting]

1. Unscrew the crown and pu it out to the second click when the small second hand is at the 12 o'clock position. The chronograph is automatically reset to 0.

2. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. It is recommended that the hands be set to the time a few minutes ahead of the current time, taking into consideration the time required to adjust the chronograph hand position if necessary.

3. If the alarm has been set and the crown is pulled out to the second click, the alarm hands will turn to indicate the current time.

Note: - When setting the hour hand, be sure to check that AM/PM is correctly set. The watch is so designed that the date changes once in 24 hour.
- When setting the minute hand, first advance it 4 to 5 minutes ahead of the desired time and then turn it back to the exact minute.

[Alarm hands setting]

1. Press button ⑧ to set the alarm hands to the time the main time hands indicate.

2. The alarm hands move quickly if button ⑧ is kept pressed

[Chronograph hands setting]

If the chronograph hands are not in the "0" position, follow the procedure below to set them to the "0" position:

1. Press button for 2 seconds.

*The selected minute hand turns a full circle.

1. Press button ⑧ repeatedly to reset the chronograph hands to "0".

The hands move quickly if button ⑧ is kept pressed.

1. Press button for 2 seconds.

2. The chronograph 1/5 second hand turns a full circle.

3. Press button ⑧ repeatedly to reset the chronograph 1/5-second hands to "0".

The hands move quickly if button ⑧ is kept pressed.

The alarm and chronograph hands can be readjusted in the following order by pressing button © for 2 seconds:

• After all adjustments are completed, push the crown back in to the normal position in accordance with a time signal, checking that the main time and the alarm hands indicate the same time.
• Push the crown back in to the normal position in accordance with a time signal.

SETTING THE DATE

• Before setting the date, be sure to set the time.

1. Pull out the crown to the first click.
2. Turn the crown clockwise until the desired date appears.
3. Push the crown back in to the normal position.

Note: Do not set the date between 9:00 p.m. and 01:00 a.m. Otherwise the date may not change properly

3. Do not press button ⑧ when the crown is at the first click position as this will move the alarm hands.

E CHRONOGRAPH

• The chronograph can measures up to 12 hours in 1/5-second increments.
• When the measurement reaches 12 hours, the chronograph automatically stops counting.

• Before using the chronograph, be sure to check that the crown is set at the normal position and that the chronograph hands are reset to the "0" position.
• To reset the chronograph hands to the "0" position, follow the procedure in Chronograph hands setting.

[Measurement of two competitors]

The alarm can be set to ring only once at a designated time within the coming 12 hours. The alarm time can be set in one minute increments.

[Alarm time setting]

Before using the alarm, check that the alarm hands are adjusted to the current time. For further information, see [Setting the time and adjusting chronograph hand position].

1. Pull out the crown to the first click.

2. Press and hold button ⑧ to set the desired alarm time.

3. • The alarm hands move quickly if button ⑧ is kept pressed

4. Push the crown back in to normal position.

Note: The single time alarm cannot be set to a time more than 12 hours ahead of the current time. While you keep button ⑧ pressed to advance the alarm hands quickly, they stop when they indicate the current time and the alarm is disengaged. In this case, release button ⑧ and then press and hold the button again to set the alarm hands to the desired time.

When the crown is at the normal position, the alarm hands indicate the current time when the alarm is disengaged and the designated alarm time when it is engaged.

[How to stop the alarm]

At the designated time the alarm rings for 20 seconds and it is automatically disengaged as it stops. To stop it manually, press button ④ or ⑧ .

While the chronograph is measuring, the alarm rings differently than usual. While the alarm is ringing, pressing button or will only stop the alarm and no chronograph operation can be made.

[How to cancel the alarm time you have set]

1. Pull out the crown to the first click.
2. Press and hold button ⑧ until the alarm hands stop and indicate the current time.
3. Push the crown back in to normal position.

To change the alarm time, follow the procedure in [Alarm time setting].

The Tachymeter is used to measure the speed of a vehicle. By knowing how many seconds the vehicle to travel one kilometre, the tachymeter can measure the approximate average speed in km/h during a journey (over a maximum measurable time of 60 seconds).

If the chronograph is started at the same time as the start of the distance measurement, and stopped after 1km , the average speed can be calculated from the position of the second hand. If the vehicle covers the distance one km in 45 seconds, the approximate average speed is 80km/h .

The Telemeter is a distance indicator which allows distance to be calculated on the basis of the speed of sound. It is useful, therefore, for aviation, navy, army and artillery purposes. It can also measure how far away a thunderstorm is.

The hand is started the second a flash, smoke or lightning is seen and stopped when the actual sound is heard. The distance, from 1 to 20 kilometres, between the observer and the explosion or storm is read from the telemetry scale.

• In order to prevent water coming into contact with the internal mechanism, never pull the crown out when the watch is wet.
• If any watches designed for sportswear or use in water come into contact with salt water or heavy sweating, they should be rinsed in fresh water and dried thoroughly.

• Contact with water may cause a deterioration in the quality of some leather straps.
• As internal parts of the watch can retain moisture, when the outside temperature is lower than the inside, the watch glass may mist-up.

This phenomenon is purely temporary and should not create any problems.

However, if it persists for any length of time, the watch should be checked by the shop where it was purchased or by the nearest Authorised Service Centre.

Temperature

Do not leave the watch exposed to direct sunlight or temperature extremes for long periods of time.

Long exposure, in fact, may adversely affect the operation of the watch and actually shorten battery life, causing it to gain or lose time and affect its other functions.

Impact

This watch can withstand normal everyday impacts and shocks and those normally imparted by non-contact sports. Serious damage, however, may result if the watch is dropped or subjected to severe shock.

Magnetic fields

This watch is antimagnetic up to 60 gauss, and is therefore not affected by magnetic fields produced by normal domestic appliances. If used near strong magnetic fields, its operation may be temporarily affected.

Static electricity

The integrated circuits present inside the watch are sensitive to static electricity. If the watch is exposed to intense electrical fields, the time display may temporarily lose some of its accuracy.

Chemicals and gases

Avoid wearing the watch in the presence of strong gases or chemical substances. Parts of the watch may discolour, dissolve or even break if brought into contact with benzol or petroleum based products such as solvents, thinners, detergent, adhesives etc.

Pay special attention to avoiding contact with chemicals.

The watch case and strap may discolour if they come into contact with mercury from a broken thermometer or other equipment.

Keeping the watch clean

Use an absorbent soft cloth to clean off any dirt or damp from the watch glass.

Wearing the watch when the strap or back of the case is dirty can cause skin irritation.

Cleaning the watch strap:

Metal bands: use a toothbrush and soapy warm to wash the dirt off.
- Plastic or rubber straps: wash with water. Do not use solvents.
- Leather straps: gently rub the face of the strap using a soft dry cloth. Clean the opposite side with a cloth and alcohol.

Periodic inspection

In order to guarantee long trouble-free operation, it is advisable to have the watch checked by an Authorised Assistance Centre once every two years.

Keep batteries out of the reach of children

If a battery is accidentally swallowed, consult a doctor immediately
