How do I connect the GS5+ switch to my network?

Use a straight-through Ethernet cable (Cat. 5e or higher) to connect each RJ-45 port of the switch to your devices (PC, server, router). The switch automatically detects the speed (10/100/1000 Mbps) and duplex mode. No configuration is required.

What do the LED indicators on the front panel mean?

The Power LED (yellow) indicates that the device is powered on. For each port, the 1000M LED (yellow) lights up when the link is at 1000 Mbps; if off, the link is at 10/100 Mbps. The Link/ACT LED (yellow) is solid when a link is established and blinks during data transfer.

Can I use the switch without a fan? Is it safe?

Yes, the GS5+ uses Comet Labs' Quiet & Cool technology: it operates without a fan, thus noiselessly, while ensuring efficient passive cooling. This is perfectly safe under the specified ambient temperature conditions (0 to 60 °C).

How do I mount the switch in a rack?

The GS5+ has a compact form factor (9 inches) and can be mounted in a 10 or 19-inch rack using the provided mounting bracket. Attach the brackets to the sides of the switch and then screw them into the rack rails.

What is the difference between half-duplex and full-duplex modes?

In half-duplex mode, data can only flow in one direction at a time (like a walkie-talkie). In full-duplex mode, data can be sent and received simultaneously, thus doubling the potential throughput. The switch automatically negotiates the best mode with each connected device.

What should I do if a device does not detect the network connection?

First, verify that the Ethernet cable is properly connected at both ends. Make sure the corresponding Link/ACT LED is lit. If not, try a different cable or port. Also restart the device and the switch after unplugging them from the power source for 30 seconds.

Does the GS5+ switch support Jumbo frames?

Introduction

The Switch provides 5 10/100/1000Mbps NWAY RJ-45 ports. It was designed for easy installation and high performance in an environment where traffic on the network and the number of user increase continuously. With newest Gigabit chip set, eTen 9” Gigabit Ethernet switch can fully support highest speed without hanging on problem even when Full-dueplex full loaded.

The switch also provides automatic crossover detection functionality on each port. It is simple and friendly to up-link to another switch without crossover cable.

Quiet & Cool technology : No fan needed, no noise.

The compact rigid desktop size was specifically designed for ROBO (Remote Office & Branch Office) and medium to large workgroups. The Switch can be installed where space is limited; moreover it provides smooth network migration and easy upgrade to network capacity. The 9" size can be rack-mount on 10" or 19" cabinet.

I. Ports - 5 RJ-45 Gigabit Switch Ports

There are 5 RJ-45 connectors on the front panel for connecting to servers, workstation or other devices. The Switch provides 5 10/100/1000Mbps switching ports that could sense the 10/100/1000M speed and negotiate Full/Half duplex mode automatically. These switching ports allow users to connect the Switch to 10Base-T, 100Base-TX and 1000Base-T devices.

Chapter 4

I. To connect the Switch to PCs, servers, and other network devices

Use straight-through twisted-pair cable (Cat. 5) to connect the Switch to PCs, servers and other network devices. Networks can be built as figure shown.

II. To connect the Switch to a Switch or a Hub

Use straight-through twisted pair cable to connect the Switch to another Switch or Hub on uplink port. If you connect the Switches on port 1 to port 5, the cable should be changed to crossover cable.
