The angle grinder can be used universally for cutting and treating metals and stone. For high speeds, only use the cutting and grinding items approved for the machine.
2! Safety instructions and Accident Prevention
Before operating the machine, please read through the operating instructions completely, follow the Safety Instructions in this manual as well as the general Safety Instructions for Power Tools in the accompanying booklet.
Important instructions, which should be read before starting operation, and which we strongly recommend observing:
If the mains cable is damaged while working, pull the mains plug immediately.
A Never work with a damaged mains cable.
A Wear protective glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves and sturdy shoes.
The dust that is produced while working is detrimental to health. Use dust extraction and wear a dust mask.
The machine must be used only for dry cutting/ grinding.
A Do not work with materials containing asbestos.
A Do not carry the machine by the cable.
Always hold the machine firmly in both hands and take a firm stance.
Always conduct the cable away to the rear of the machine.
Only insert the mains plug into the socket when the machine is turned Off.
A If the mains plug is pulled out, of if there is a power cut, unlock the On/Off switch immediately and set it to the Off position in order to prevent it from starting to run again in an uncontrolled manner.
The auxiliary handle serves for your safety. Work with the additional handle mounted.
Only do cutting and grinding work with the protective guard mounted!
The dust produced when treating stone with crystalline silicic acid is hazardous to health. Use a dust extractor and wear a dust mask. The dust extractor must be suitable for vacuuming stone.
For clamping the grinding discs, clamping flanges may only be used that are the same size and shaped to fit the contacting surface. Please observe the instructions for using the clamping flange in the operating manual. Intermediate layers may not be used on conical or depressed-centre grinding discs.
When clamping depressed-centre grinding tools the diameter of the clamping flange must be at least 5mm smaller than the diameter of the flat depressed-centre surface of the grinding tool; here, the clamping flange must not press onto the transitional radius of the clearance.
The location bore of the grinding tools may not be drilled afterwards as there is risk of fracture.
Grinding tools may on no account be operated at a speed higher than that stipulated by the grinding tool manufacturer.
Only fibre-reinforced grinding discs or diamond cutting discs may be used.
The grinding discs etc. intended for use must be approved for a peripheral velocity of 80~m / s Formula: · 3.14 · n6000 = m / s
d = Diameter of the grinding disc in mm
n = No-load speed/min.
(see identification plate)
m/s = Peripheral velocity in metres per second
A new grinding tool and any grinding tool that is re-mounted, must run on the machine intended for use at no-load for 30 seconds. Operating personnel and any other persons must stand outside the danger area during the test run.
The machine may only be brought into contact with the work piece once it has been switched on.
A Caution! Be careful of rotating grinding tools.
Pay attention to the direction of rotation: Always hold the machine such that the grinding dust or sparks fly away from the body. When grinding metal, sparks can occur. Be careful if persons or objects are standing nearby. Inflammable material must not be kept in the vicinity.
A Check the working area with a metal detector in order to avoid damaging any concealed electrical leads, or water and gas pipes.
A Switch the machine off immediately if the cutting disc should jam (jerky reaction force).
A Do not use any cutting discs for rough grinding.
Grinding tools may not be brought to a standstill by pressing against the periphery or grinding face of the grinding tool.
A Do not clamp the machine in a vice.
Observe the instructions for assembly and operation provided by the manufacturer of the grinding tool.
Always store grinding discs such that they are protected against damage.
Before placing the machine down anywhere, switch it off and wait for it to come to a standstill. The grinding tools continue to run a little after switching off.
The mains receptacles in the working area must be protected by a residual current circuit breaker (RC).
A Do not drill holes into the housing to label the machine. The protective insulation will be bridged. Please use self-adhesive labels.
3 Noise/vibration information

6 Assembling the auxiliary handle
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Assembling the auxiliary handle
Place the clamping strap around the gearhead and insert it in the openings on the clamping part of the auxiliary handle. The auxiliary handle is locked by turning it clockwise. In so doing make sure that the notches on the supporting part grip in the groove on the machine housing.
Adjusting the auxiliary handle
By turning the handle anticlockwise, the fixture is unlocked. The auxiliary handle can be turned to the required position. By turning the auxiliary handle clockwise, it is locked again.
7 Putting into Operation
Check before putting into operation that the mains voltage agrees with the voltage specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Switching on and off
Push the On/Off switch 1 forwards to switch the machine on. To lock, push the On/Off switch 1 forwards fully.
By pressing the projecting front edge of the On/Off switch 1, it returns to its initial position. The machine slowly comes to a standstill.
Gentle starting
The starting current limiter reduces the starting current. The motor slowly runs up to no-load speed, thereby protecting the user and the gearing and prolonging the life of the machine.
Constant electronics
Under load, the voltage on the motor is increased. Full power is then available and the machine turns at the maximum possible speed. When the load is reduced, the voltage drops again and the sound level for the user is reduced.
Automatic spindle locking facility (Auto-Spindel-Lock, ASL)
The machine is fitted with an automatic spindle-locking facility. The tool carrier is automatically blocked when the machine is at a standstill, thereby facilitating the tool to be changed.
Information for avoiding over-loading the machine
When stressing the machine under normal conditions the housing becomes noticeably a little warmer. However, if the housing becomes hot, this means that the motor has been over-strained, and can become damaged. By running the machine at no-load, the motor cools down very quickly again and work can be continued.
Adjusting the protective guard (Fig. A)
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
The protective guard 4 can be adjusted as far as it will go, depending on the application.
The closed side of the protective guard 4 must always point to the operator.
Disassembling/assembling the protective guard (Fig. B)
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
For disassembling the protective guard 4, remove the 2 screws and take off the counterflange. Lift the protective guard and the disc. The protective guard is assembled in the reverse sequence.
8 Inserting/Removing Tools
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Only cut and grind when the protective guard is mounted!
It must be possible to move the grinding tools slightly, but they should not sit too loosely on the spindle. The clamping nut must only be tightened to the extent that the grinding tool is held firmly.
Roughing and cutting discs (Fig. C)
The automatic spindle-locking facility (ASL) enables the tool to be changed more easily.
Using the face spanner 8, to loosen the flange nut 7 and unscrew.
The bore on the roughing/cutting disc 5 must fit on the clamping flange 6 without any tolerance. It is not permissible to use adapters or reducers.
The two application examples (Fig. E) show how thick (5 - 10mm) and thin (1 - 6mm) grinding discs have to be fastened to the tool carrier using the flange nut 7.
Mount thick grinding discs (5-10 mm) such that the reduced side of the flange nut 7 points towards the machine.
Mount thin grinding discs (1-6 mm) such that the reduced side of the flange nut 7 points away from the machine.
Tighten the flange nut 7 firmly using the face spanner 8.
When using a diamond cutting disc, make sure that the arrow pointing in the direction of rotation on the diamond cutting disc agrees with the direction of rotation of the machine (the arrow for the direction of rotation is on the head of the machine).
A new grinding tool and any grinding tool that is re-mounted, must run on the machine intended for use at no-load for 30 seconds. Operating personnel and any other persons must stand outside the danger area during the test run.
9 Practical Tips
Rough Grinding (Fig. D)
The best grinding results can be obtained by working at an angle of incline of approx. 20^ - 30^
Cutting
For cut-off grinding, you should work using moderate pressure and not tilt the cutting disc.
The machine must run in the opposite sense so that it is not pressed out of the cut.
10 Maintenance Measures
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Always keep the ventilation slots clean.
Wipe off the accessible plastic parts regularly with a cloth without cleaning agent.
After heavy use over a long period, the machine should be taken to a Kress service location for an inspection and thorough cleaning.
