Curved handle and mains cable module
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Mounting the curved handle 5 (Fig. A)
The curved handle can be mounted in 3 positions according to the application and preference of the user. For mounting in the middle on the top of the rubber head please proceed as follows:
Position the curved handle with spacer 2 onto the machine such that the screw of the curved handle comes lies over the screw opening on the rubber head.
Turn the locking grip 3 clockwise until the curved handle sits tightly.
To bring the locking grip back into position over the curved grip again, it can be lifted, turned to the required position and latched.
For mounting at the side on the right or left of the curved handle, proceed in a similar manner but make sure in doing so that the lugs 1 of the spacer notch in the recesses 11 provided in the extension of the ventilating slot on the rubber head.
Adjusting the curved handle
The angular position of the curved handle can easily be adjusted in all 3 positions as the user wishes.
Continue to unscrew the locking grip anticlockwise until the curved handle can be lifted out of the toothed grid of the spacer.
Turn the curved handle to the desired position and allow it to notch in the toothed grid of the spacer.
To tighten the curved handle proceed in the same way again as for the assembly.
Connect the mains cable module to the handle. The plug must latch.
Use the mains cable module provided only for Kress Electro-Tools. Do not attempt to operate other machines with the module.
Only use original Kress mains cable modules and at least flexible rubber tube (code designation H05 RR-F).
7 Putting into Operation
A Check before putting into operation that the mains voltage agrees with the voltage specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Switching on and off
Turn the switching ring 6 in the direction of the arrow. At the end of the turn the locking switch 7 automatically engages.
By pressing the tilted-up front edge of the locking switch 7, the switching ring 6 returns to its initial position and the machine slowly comes to a standstill.
Full-pulse wave electronics with tacho-signal recognition
The speed is kept constant due to the integrated full-pulse wave electronics with tacho-signal recognition.
Gentle-start acceleration is also integrated in the electronics.
The motor slowly accelerates until the pre-determined speed is reached, thereby reducing the strain on both the user and the transmission and prolonging the service life of the machine.
The electronic overload protection limits the speed if there is danger of the load causing damage to the motor. The load on the machine must be reduced in order for the full capacity to be made available again. This is best done by briefly taking the machine away from the work piece.
The thumbwheel 10 enables the optimum speed to be pre-selected, also while running. The speed required will depend on the working material and is determined by trial and error (see application table).
The numbers on the thumbwheel 10 correspond approximately with the following speeds:
1 4650 RPM
2 5800 RPM
3 7000 RPM
4 8300 RPM
5 9700 RPM
6 11000 RPM
Sanding Plate Brake
The integrated backing pad brake reduces the number of vibrations at no-load, thus preventing furrows occurring when positioning the machine on the work piece.
A steadily increasing no-load speed indicates that the brake ring is worn und must be replaced.

8 Inserting/Removing Tools
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Selecting the rubber backing pad
The eccentric sander is fitted with an all-purpose rubber backing pad of medium hardness. However, rubber backing pads with varying degrees of hardness may be fitted, depending on the type of application (see application table):
Super-soft backing pad:
Suitable for polishing large surfaces and for particularly sensitive sanding work (also curved surfaces).
Soft rubber backing pad:
All-purpose, suitable for all sanding work.
Hard rubber backing pad:
Suitable for high sanding performance, particularly on large, flat surfaces.
Fitting the sanding tools (Fig. C)
The machine is fitted with a quick-change (connecting link) system, enabling sanding tools to be changed easily without the aid of an additional tool.
Before mounting any new sanding sheets 16, dust and dirt must be removed from the backing pad 12.
Press the sanding sheets or polishing tools onto the backing pad and make sure that the bore holes of the sanding sheet match the bore holes on the backing pad.
Only use original Kress sanding and polishing tools with the pressure-sensitive connecting link.
Changing the rubber backing pad (Fig. C)
For changing the backing pad 12, remove it from its carrier plate 15.
Damaged rubber backing pads must be replaced immediately.
Changing the backing pad carrier plate (Fig. D)
When changing the backing pad carrier plate 15, pull off the sanding sheet or polishing tool, respectively. Loosen screw 17 with a Torx screwdriver and remove.
Hold the backing pad carrier plate 15 firmly and tighten the screw 17 firmly with a Torx screwdriver.
9 Dust extraction device
Dust extraction prevents large accumulations of dust, high concentrations of dust in the ambient air and facilitates disposal.
For long periods of working with wood or for commercial use on materials that produce dust that is detrimental to health, the machine is to be connected to a suitable external dust extraction device.
Adapter for vacuum cleaner connection
The adapter enables the sanding dust to be vacuumed using a normal household vacuum cleaner.
The rubber reducer can be used for reducing the connection diameter on the diameter of the vacuum cleaner tube.
Mounting the dust bag (Fig. B)
For smaller sanding jobs the dust bag supplied with the machine can be used for dust extraction. The machine has its own effective dust extraction facility with integrated suction turbine and dust bag.
Push the dust bag with the locking connection 14 from behind onto the mounting on the blower flange and press it on. The locking connection engages by spring pressure.
The dust bag can be taken off by pulling the moulded-on grip.
The dust bag must be emptied as soon as the suction strength slackens. To do this, pull the clamp off in the direction of the arrow and push it on again after emptying.
10 Practical Tips
Sanding surfaces
Only perfect sanding sheets will give a good sanding performance and protect the machine.
Observe uniform feed. Less contact pressure gives a better sanding performance and protects the machine and sanding tools.
Different rubber backing pads and sanding wheels should be used depending on the material.
The abrasive power and the sanding finish are determined primarily by the choice of sanding disc (grain), speed of the rubber backing pad and contact pressure (ssee application table).
Place the whole sanding area of the eccentric disc sander onto the material which requires sanding. Switch on the machine and move over the work-piece, applying moderate pressure.

Sanding application table
The following table should only be used as a recommendation. The most suitable combinations are best determined by carrying out a practical test.
| Material | Grain | Switchset Rubber- backing | ||
| Coarse sand- ing | Preci- sion sanding | 1 | ||
| Light sanding of pw. | 180 | 400 | 2/3 | soft |
| Smoothing out paintw. | 120 | 240 | 4/5 | hard |
| Removing paintwork | 40 | 80 | 5 | soft |
| Soft wood | 60 | 240 | 5/6 | super-soft |
| Hard wood | 60 | 180 | 5/6 | soft |
| Veneer | 240 | 320 | 5 | super-soft |
| Aluminium | 80 | 240 | 4/5 | soft |
| Steel | 60 | 240 | 5 | soft/ hard |
| Derusting steel | 40 | 120 | 6 | super-soft |
| Stainless steel | 120 | 240 | 5 | soft |
Coarse sanding
Attach a coarse grain sanding disc. Only apply light pressure to the eccentric disc sander, so that the rubber backing pad runs at a higher speed, thereby removing a greater quantity of the material.
Precision sanding
Attach a sanding disc which has a finer grain. The speed of the rubber backing pad can be reduced by lightly varying the contact pressure, as a result of which the eccentric movement of the sander is retained and the sanding finish is equivalent to that produced by a vibrating sander.
Move the eccentric sander in a circular motion, parallel to the material, or move the sander in alternating lengthwise and crosswise directions.
Do not tilt the eccentric disc sander, otherwise the sander may sand through the work-piece (e. g. veneer).
On completion of work, reduce the rubber backing pad speed by removing the contact pressure and lift machine off the workpiece.
Polishing
For polishing weather-beaten paintwork or for touching-up scratches, (e. g. acrylic glass) the eccentric disc grinder can be fitted with the appropriate polishing tools, for example, a lamb's wool attachment or a polishing felt/sponge (auxiliary).
Select low speed for polishing (step 1-2) in order to avoid excess heating of surface.
Attach the polishing sponge to the rubber backing pad.
Apply polish to the location which requires polishing. Work in the polish, applying moderate pressure, in a crosswise or circular motion and then allow to dry slightly.
Mount the lamb's wool disc attachment onto the backing pad.
Polish up the dried polish in a crosswise or circular motion.
In order to achieve optimum polishing results, the polishing tools must be cleaned regularly. It is recommended to wash the polishing tools with a mild detergent and warm water (do not use diluting agents).
11 Maintenance Measures
Before any work on the machine itself, pull the mains plug!
Always keep the ventilation slots clean.
Wipe off the accessible plastic parts regularly with a cloth without cleaning agent.
The rubber seal 18 protects the drive against any dirt and thereby also from increased wear and a shorter service life of the drive parts.
The rubber seal must therefore be checked regularly for damage. If the seal is damaged the machine should be taken to a Kress after-sales service station.
After heavy use over a long period, the machine should be taken to a Kress service location for an inspection and thorough cleaning.
12 Environmental Protection

Kress takes back worn-out machines for the purpose of resource-saving recycling. As a result of their modular construction, Kress machines can be very easily dismantled into their reusable materials.
Give your worn-out Kress machine to your dealer or send it directly to Kress.
