GENERAL WARNINGS

  • Before using the tank or any other underwater diving product, you should attend a course taught by qualified instructors and obtain the relevant diving certificate. The use of diving equipment by non-certified divers is dangerous and can lead to serious accidents, or even death, for the diver and his/her diving companions.
  • When assembling the tank unit, all possible measures were taken to deliver a product that is highly reliable over time. However, these measures can be rendered ineffective if the tank unit is not used correctly and if adequate maintenance is not performed. SEAC SUB declines all responsibility for any problems resulting from a failure to observe the recommendations provided in this manual.
  • If you are not experienced in using this equipment, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with how it works during test dives at shallow depths and under favorable conditions; contact a qualified instructor for a refresher course if appropriate.

Suggestions and general warnings for using compressed gas tanks

1 There should be no doubts about the gas used (compressed atmospheric air), the load pressure, and the integrity of the system.

⚠ WARNING!

Do not use this or any other product in the SEAC range with other gases or oxygen enriched air mixtures (usually known as NITROX).

Failure to follow this recommendation could cause serious accidents or even death due to fire or explosions, or a serious deterioration in your equipment.

2 Always check the date of the most recent test. Never use expired tanks. Legal indications are stamped on the upper head near the neck of the tank.
3 Secure the tanks to be used as safely as possible (e.g., to the wall with a chain, on a cart fitted with a chain...).
4 If you notice operating defects, leaks in general, leaks from the safety valve, unstable output pressure, gas consumption that significantly exceeds your calculations, suspicious noises, freezing, or defects in the operation of the pressure gauges, stop using the product immediately and call a service center or the manufacturer's support.

SEAC TANKS - ⚠ WARNING! - 1

SEAC TANKS - ⚠ WARNING! - 2

They will advise you over the phone about what to do.

5 Do not make repairs or alterations to the equipment and do not tamper with the safety valves for any reason. These actions could result in serious harm to people and objects.
6 Make sure that the tank is completely empty before removing the valve.
7 In all cases, but especially when it is used with OXYGEN:

a) DO NOT GREASE
b) DO NOT USE in the presence of open flames or sources of heat
c) DO NOT USE tanks that have been exposed to the sun or to sources of heat
d) DO NOT HANDLE the equipment with dirty or sweaty hands or wipe it with rags that are not perfectly clean
e) CAREFULLY CHECK that the connections and seals are clean and intact.

8 Do not use tools to make it easier to open or close the valve. This must be done manually, applying a force of no greater than 7Nm for handwheels 60 mm or greater in diameter (3Nm for smaller handwheels). If pneumatic tools are used, only selects models with guaranteed torque control and reduced speed.
9 Always open the valve slowly after you have connected it to the usage source.
10 If you detect excessive resistance when opening or closing the valve (force of more than 7Nm), this is the first sign of a malfunction. To avoid creating dangerous situations, we recommend that you replace it.

Valves for 232 bar tanks

Tank valves are available in two versions to be used with tanks of maximum volume of 18 liters and pressure of 232 bar:

  • Single tank with single connector (1 regulator)
  • Single tank with double connector (2 regulators)

All the versions feature International yoke connectors (YOKE CGA 850 Maximum pressure 232 bar) and EN144-2 232 bar connection for the regulators.

WARNING!

To switch the yoke connection (YOKE CGA 850) to EN144-2 or vice versa, use an 8-mm hex wrench.

CONFORMITY TESTS

The maximum pressure drop, measured straddling the tank valve with a feed pressure kept constant at 50 bar, is less than 10bar.

IMPORTANT!

Modifications to the configuration of certified devices are not permitted; the notice must be saved for reference for this purpose.

DANGER

If it becomes necessary to replace the valve, only qualified and authorized personnel should perform this operation.

If replacing the valves, check that the threading on the tank and the valve correspond perfectly. Absolutely never force the valves while screwing. Also make sure that the threading is clean and intact.

Also make sure that you tighten the valves with torque wrench set to an operating torque equivalent to 100 Newton. The threading currently used and assembled is the M 25x2 type as specified in regulation EN144-1, but there are still tanks in

circulation that were manufactured in the past that have 3/4 gas threading. The greatest risk occurs when an M 25x2 valve is erroneously coupled with a 3/4 gas tank body.

These two thread types are absolutely not compatible with each other, and coupling them mistakenly can lead to explosions and even deadly accidents. To untrained eyes, the screwing may appear sufficient, but in reality the threads don't coincide perfectly. When recharging, or at any time after that, the valves will be expelled violently due to the pressure inside the tank, resulting in the consequences mentioned above.

The indication of the tank threading abbreviation is stamped onto the tank itself.

OPERATION TO PERFORM BEFORE THE DIVE

  • Ensure that all the hoses have been correctly assembled onto the first stage, and check them for cuts, signs of wear, or other damage. If the hoses are loose enough to be unscrewed manually, they must be tightened with a wrench before pressurizing the equipment.
  • Make sure that the first and second stages do not show signs of damage.
  • Connect the tank to the support system (harness, BC).
  • Position the tank control valve so that the valve opening is directed towards the diver.
  • Remove the dust cap from the first stage port and position the yoke fitting so that it is centered on the tank valve opening.
  • The first stage should be oriented in such a way that the hose leading to the second stage is routed over the diver's right shoulder.
  • Fully tighten down the screw with the small ring on the regulator if using the EN144-2:00 connector.

If using a yoke type regulator fitting, tighten the yoke screw, making sure not to damage the OR gasket located on the valve fitting.

  • Check the submersible pressure gauge, making sure that the pressure reading is zero.
  • Very slowly open the tank valve, allowing air to enter the regulator gradually.

⚠ WARNING!

During this operation, press the second stage purge valve. This reduces the impact on the valve. DO NOT PERFORM THIS OPERATION AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURES BELOW 10°.

  • Check the pressure gauge to ensure that it indicates the proper and sufficient tank pressure for your planned dive.
  • Check the cylinder and tank connection for leakage. If you notice a leak, this could be because the regulator is assembled incorrectly on the tank valve or because of a damaged OR in the regulator.
  • To confirm that the regulator delivers air properly, first exhale through the mouthpiece to blow any foreign matter from the second stage, then inhale. Repeating this operation a few times should identify any clear problems right away.

Diving in cold water (10°C or colder)

⚠ WARNING!

Inadequate technical training in diving in cold water (10°C or below) could lead to serious harm. Before diving in cold water, it is advisable to take a special training course under the supervision of a certified diving instructor. Dives in cold water require regulators that are specially designed and certified for this purpose, and you must correctly follow all the instructions provided in their user manuals.

USE AND MAINTENANCE

Operations to perform after the dive - Cleaning

Disassemble the regulator and the BC/backpack from the tank and wash the valve and the tank carefully with fresh water. Leave to dry thoroughly and store in a dry place shielded from direct light.

Maintenance

The O-rings on the adapter and the hoses should be replaced whenever they are damaged and therefore compromise the proper seal. To replace them, remove the damaged O-ring, taking care not to ruin the seal seat, and replace it with an O-ring of the same size and hardness.

All the O-rings used for high pressure have 80/90 SH hardness.
