SET APPAREIL PHOTO AUTOFOCUS
The product is to be used exclusively for photography. Please do not use it for any other purposes. For safety reasons, please read through the following advice for correct use before using the camera.
WARNING:
Do not dismantle the camera.
- To prevent explosions or serious injury, do not throw the battery into water, avoid short-circuiting the positive and negative battery terminals, do not take the battery apart or recharge it.
If your camera gets immersed in water or water gets into your camera (e.g. as a result of dropping it into water or exposure to rain or water spray), do not switch on the camera. You should wipe it dry immediately, remove the battery and end the camera to the appropriate service centre for examination and repair.
- When taking photographs, do not point the camera directly into the sun as this could damage your eyes.
- When taking close-up photographs do not point the flash directly into the eyes (especially with children), as this could damage the eyes.
Always have several films and batteries with you on important photo opportunities.
- When using a tripod do not screw in the screw too far into the tripod socket.

Use a single lithium battery type CR123A or DL123A (3V).
- Slide the battery compartment cover lock in the "Open" direction and open the cover. (Fig. 2)
- Insert a fresh battery with +-terminal pointing outwards. Then close the cover. (Fig. 3)
We recommend that only a fresh battery of the same type is used to replace the old battery.
Only remove the battery from the camera when you wish to replace it.
CHECKING THE CHARGE STATUS OF THE BATTERY
The charge status of the battery in the camera can be checked each time the power is switched on or by pressing the shutter release button half down. The battery status is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
- The "Battery full" symbol appears if the battery status is good.
-
If the battery is almost discharged then the "Battery half full" symbol appears. If this symbol appears then the voltage present is still sufficient for at least one more complete film (36 exposures).
-
We recommend that the battery is replaced when you reach the end of the film.
during which the "Battery half full" symbol appeared.
- The "Battery empty" symbol appears if the battery voltage is too low to take an acceptable photograph. If your battery is in this state then all camera functions are disabled. The camera cannot take photographs at such a low voltage. The battery must be replaced with a new one.
SWITCHING THE POWER ON/OFF
Press the On/off button once (Fig. 4) to switch on the power. The lens extends and remains in the wide angle position. The camera is ready for action. To switch off the power, press the On/off button once again. The lens moves immediately into the off position, irrespective of its previous position.
AUTOMATIC POWER SWITCH-OFF
If the camera power is on and the camera has not been used for 5 minutes, then the system switches the camera power off and moves the lens first into the "off" position and then into "W" position. You should avoid inadvertently leaving the camera switched on as this wastes battery power.
To operate the camera again, press any button and the relevant camera function is immediately carried out.
To switch off press "Power" - the lens moves back into the off position and the lens cover is activated.
LOADING FILM
- Slide the back cover lock downwards to open the camera back cover.
- Insert a new film into the film compartment and hold the film cassette in position.
- Pull out the start of the film until it reaches the film start marking on the inside of the camera. (Fig. 5).
-
Close the camera back cover. The film will then be automatically wound forward to the first exposure position. The number "1" appears on the liquid crystal display.
-
If the film has not loaded correctly, a "0" appears on the display instead of a "1".
- The camera loads the film automatically, irrespective of whether the power is switched on or off.
SETTING THE FILM SPEED
The camera uses standard 35 mm film cassettes type 135 with DX coding; the film speed (ISO 100-800) is automatically set when the film is loaded.
ZOOMING WITH THE LENS (Fig. 7)
With the power switched on:
- Move the telephoto/wide angle zoom lever to the "T" end. The lens zooms towards the subject and can stop in four positions if the lever is released. If the movement is not halted, the lens continues to zoom in further until the telephoto position is reached and it stops automatically.
- Move the telephoto/wide angle lens to the "W" end. The lens zooms out and can stop in four positions if the lever is released. If the movement is not halted the lens zooms out from the subject until the wide angle position is reached and it stops automatically.
AUTO FOCUS (Fig. 8)
This camera has an integral multi-step auto focus system. The system determines the distance of the subject from the camera and sets the optimum focus automatically as the photograph is taken.
The AF system sets the lens to the best focus appropriate to the determined distance before the shutter is released. This AF system means the user is always able to take sharp photographs.
USING THE FOCUS LOCK TO COMPOSE THE PICTURE
Press the shutter release button half down to focus on the intended subject. Hold the release button half down and compose your picture. Then press the button fully down to release the shutter. If the button is not kept in position before the shutter is released then the focus lock is lost.
INTEGRATED FLASH UNIT
The camera is fitted with an integrated flash unit. The way it works depends on how the user has set the flash mode, i.e. automatic /fill-in /off.
- Recommended focusing ranges for flash photography:
35 mm ISO 100-1~2.5 m
ISO 400-1~5 m
ISO 800-1~7 m
70 mm ISO 100-1~1.3 m
ISO 400-1~2.6 m
ISO 800-1~3.5 m
-
The flash will only operate if the integrated flash unit is fully charged and set to automatic, automatic red-eye reduction, fill-in flash or night exposure modes. Press the shutter release button half down. If the integrated flash unit is fully charged, the liquid crystal display shows "Flash ready" and pressing the button down further will release the shutter.
-
If the integrated flash is still charging (not yet fully charged), then the liquid crystal display shows a flashing flash symbol.
When the shutter release button is pressed in this charge condition, the "Flash ready" liquid crystal display flashes. (Fig. 9)
If flash is required for a photograph, the shutter release button cannot be pressed down any further until the flash is fully charged.
* The liquid crystal display will only show "Flash ready" when the shutter release button is pressed.
SELECTING FUNCTIONS (LCD DISPLAY)
Press the "Mode" button to select an operating mode.
On switching on the power, the operating mode is always set to automatic flash. This operating mode changes each time the "Mode" button is pressed.
The sequence of operating modes and their description is as follows:
AUTO Automatic flash
AUTO Automatic flash with red-eye reduction
Fill-in flash
Flash off
Night exposure
Burst
"Infinite" setting
AUTOMATIC FLASH
In this mode the camera determines whether to use flash or not.
- If the automatic exposure control light sensor detects sufficient light then the integrated flash unit is not activated when the shutter is released.
- If the sensor does not detect sufficient light then additional light is required for a good quality photograph. In this event, the integrated flash unit is automatically activated when the shutter is released.
RED-EYE REDUCTION (Fig. 10)
If this mode is selected then the red-eye effect can be minimised when taking portraits using flash.
-
Press the "Mode" switch until the appropriate symbol appears on the liquid crystal display.
-
Press the shutter release button half down so that the liquid crystal display shows "Flash charging".
- Press the shutter release button.
FILL-IN FLASH
In this operating mode, the flash is activated if the user wishes to photograph subjects with sunlight coming from the side or from the rear. This mode allows natural-looking photographs to be taken by softening the reproduction of harsh shadows.
- Press the "Mode" switch until the appropriate symbol appears on the liquid crystal display.
- Press the shutter release button. The flash fires each time the shutter is released.
FLASH OFF
This operating mode prevents the flash from operating and thus allows photographs to be taken using available light in places where the use of flash photography is prohibited.
- Press the "Mode" switch until the appropriate symbol appears on the liquid crystal display.
- Press the shutter release button and the flash is not fired when the shutter is released.
In the flash off mode, the camera uses a long shutter speed (of up to 1/3 second) to make use of the available light. If you wish to avoid any blurring of the picture, we recommend the use of a tripod.
Photography through a pane of glass. For maximum sharpness, set the focusing distance to "infinity".
Press the "Mode" button to select the "infinity" setting.
This ensures a depth of focus over a large focusing range. For dark exposure conditions, such in the evening or at night, the shutter opening time should be increased and a tripod used to reduce camera shake.
NIGHT EXPOSURE PORTRAIT MODE
If a photograph is to be taken of a subject in the dark, a long exposure can be used.
- Press the flash mode button until the LCD shows the "Night portrait" symbol . This allows you to use an ultra-long exposure of up to one second in poor lighting conditions. Set the subject in the viewfinder and press the shutter release button.
An automatic exposure is made if the flash is in stand-by mode. The automatic exposure sets an appropriate exposure time for photographs taken in the early morning, late evening, under cloudy skies or for night exposures.
Use a tripod to avoid camera shake.
BURST (Fig. 11)
This operating mode allows the user to take a series of photographs one after the other for as long as the shutter release button is pressed. In this operating mode the flash is switched off. Continuous events or photographs of moving subjects can be captured exactly using the burst mode.
Press the "Mode" button to select the burst mode.
Press and hold down the shutter release button. Your camera will take a series of photographs at one second intervals for as long as the button is held down.
"INFINITY" SETTING
Use this mode when taking photographs of distant landscapes, as well as for photographs of panoramas or landscapes taken through glass. For maximum sharpness, the focusing distance is set to "infinity".
Press the "Mode" button to set the symbol to
This guarantees your pictures are sharp over a large range of focusing distances.
For photographs in poor lighting conditions, such as in the evening or at night, you should extend the exposure time and, if you wish to eliminate camera shake, use a tripod.
USING THE SELF-TIMER (Fig. 12)
-
Select your picture with the camera set up on a stable base.
-
Press the "Mode" button until the appropriate symbol appears on the liquid crystal display. Press the shutter release button. The self-timer LCD on the front of the camera will then flash for about 7 seconds. Then the liquid crystal display lights up for approx. 2 seconds to show that the exposure is just about to be made. Thus after a total of 10 seconds the shutter is released.
-
The self-timer can be repeated by pressing the shutter release button again or cancelled by switching off the power.
AUTOMATIC FILM REWIND
-
The film is rewound automatically when the end of the film is reached. During rewinding of the film, lens moves back into the camera.
-
Rewinding stops automatically once the film has been fully rewound and the liquid crystal display shows a flashing "0". Always check that the "0" is flashing before you open the camera back. Open the camera back cover and take out the film.
If the film has exceeded the standard number of exposures, this can be because of double exposure on the last picture.
If the display does not show "0" after rewinding, then operate the rewind button manually.
REWINDING IN MID-FILM (Fig. 13)
The film can also be rewound before the end of the film is reached. To rewind the film use the projecting part of a paper clip (or a pencil point) to press the button for rewinding in mid-film (near the power button).
MAINTENANCE AND STORING YOUR CAMERA
The camera is a precision instrument. Please do not let it drop, do not throw it around and always protect it from impact or blows.
- Do not place the camera where there are high temperatures or moisture, for example in strong sunlight or in a vehicle that is parked in direct sunlight.
- Please do not place the camera close to electrical devices such as televisions, refrigerators etc.
- Do not put the camera into new drawers, which still may be giving off formaldehyde, and do not let the camera come into contact with insecticides, as both these sub-stances can cause the film to decompose.
- Please protect the camera from fine-grained contaminants such as dust or sand as these can cause damage to the moving parts of the camera.
The camera can be irreparably damaged through this.
In the event that the camera gets wet with rainwater, dirtied by sand or exposed to sea air, wipe it with a dry cloth.
If the lens is dusty, carefully remove the dust with a lens brush; if necessary use a little lens cleaner on lens cleaning paper to carefully wash the lens. Do not touch the lens with your fingers.
- Do not clean the lens with alcohol or solvents. If the camera is dirty, wipe the dirt away carefully using a soft clean cloth.
- If the camera is subject to rapid changes in temperature, then condensation could form on the lens and affect the performance of the camera. This could occur, for example, when the camera is brought indoors into a warm room from a cold outside environment.
If the camera is not to be used for a long period, take out the battery and place it in a sealed container with a little drying agent.
Old batteries should be handled in accordance with the applicable regulations.
