USER MANUAL RODI XR MAXI-COSI

EXI0212 GBA Rodi I BW 09-12-2008 11 Ne Pagina 7 Dear parents Congratulations on your purchase of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR. Safety, comfort and user-friendliness played an important role throughout all stages of development of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR. This product meets the most stringent safety requirements. The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is optimised for side impact protection and extra user-friendliness. The features that GB provide this protection are located primarily in the back and headrest. We therefore recommend always using the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR together with the backrest, in particular for children weighing between 15 and 25 kg (ages 3% -7). The belt guide in the headrest guarantees the correct positioning of the shoulder bel. The two positions (reclining and sleeping) in the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR ensure a comfortable ride for the child. Studies have shown that a large percentage of car seats are not used correctly. It is therefore important that you take the time to read through these instructions carefully. The optimum safety of your child is only guaranteed if the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is used correctly. Continuous research by our product development department, the use of test panels and consumer feedback ensure that our products are always kept up-to-date in the field of child safety. Therefore, if you have any questions on the use of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR, please do not hesitate to contact us. Dorel (for contact information, see the back of the instruction manual) CONTENTS

VAN + Read this instruction manual carefully. Study the illustrations in the manual carefully before using the car seat and during installation. The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is a safety product, but only offers optimal protection when used according to these instructions. + Correct fitting of the car seat belt is essential for the safety of your child. The seat belt must be threaded along the red markings on the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR. See the “Placing your child in the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR” section and/or the sticker on the side of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR. NEVER thread the seat belt in a manner other than the one described in this manual. + For the future use of the car seat, it is important that you store the instruction manual in the space provided in the space under the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR. + NEVER leave your child unattended in a car.

— 09-12-2008 11 Ne Pagina 8 + The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can be used on either the front seat or rear seat, even if equipped with an airbag! However, we recommend installing the seat on the rear seat. If this is not possible and the seat is equipped with an airbag, make sure the seat is in the rearmost position. Also see the car manual, as the airbags in many cars can be disconnected easily nowadays. + The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR must only be used in a forward-facing seat equipped with an automatic or static 3-point safety belt that meets the ECE R16 or equivalent standard. NEVER USE A 2-POINT SAFETY BELT, as this could result in death or injury in the event of an emergency stop or collision. + All fold-down rear seats must be locked. The backrest of the seat must ALWAYS be in an UPRIGHT position. + The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR has been approved according to the latest European safety standards (ECE R44/04) and is suitable for children weighing 15 to 36 kg (approx. ages 3% to 12 years and up to a maximum height of 1.50 metres). + Following an accident, the seat may become unsafe due to damage that is not visibly apparent. It should therefore be replaced. + The safety of the child car seat can only be guaranteed by the manufacturer when used by the original owner. + We therefore strongly advise against using second-hand products, as you never know if they have been involved in an accident. + No alterations may be made to the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR, as this could affect part or the overall safety of the seat + Do not use the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR without its cover. The cover may not be replaced with any cover other than the one provided by the manufacturer, as the cover contributes to the safety of the child car seat. + The foam parts in the head and backrest may not be removed + The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR may only be used as a child car seat and is not intended for home use. + The manufacturer has taken into consideration the fact that child car seats may cause indentations in car upholstery. This is unavoidable, due to the prescribed safety standards. Dorel is not liable for any damage that may occur as a result. + The moving parts of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR may not be lubricated in any way.

2. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

+ Prior to purchase, check to make sure the child car seat fits properly in your car, as different types of belt systems are used in cars. + The child car seat must always be fully secured with a seat belt, even when not in use. A loose car seat can injure other passengers in the car during an emergency stop or accident. Securing the seat with the elastic and anchor alone is insufficient. + Always check to make sure the belt fits properly and securely. Remove all slack from the belt. + When using the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR on the front passenger seat, this seat must be placed in the rearmost position. The backrest of the seat must ALWAYS be in an UPRIGHT position. The seat and headrest can be repositioned for use by à passenger. + Make sure that all luggage and other objects that could cause injury in the event of an accident are secured + Make sure that the child car seat does not become trapped or overloaded by heavy baggage, reclineable seats or slamming doors. + Make sure that any objects in the child's jacket or trouser pockets do not get stuck between the child and the seat belt, as this could result in injury during an accident. + Adult passengers who are not wearing seat belts can also form a danger for a child in a car seat. + Always cover the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR when parking the car in the full sun, as the plastic could become extremely hot and burn your child. This also prevents the fabric cover from discolouring. + To prevent damage to the cover, do not remove the logos or instruction labels on the cover. + Always use the child car seat, even on short trips, as this is when most accidents occur.

EXI0212 GBA Rodi I BW 09-12-2008 11 Ne Pagina 9 + Never strap yourself and a child together in a car using à 3 or 2-point safety belt. + Set a good example and always wear your seat belt. < Tell your child to never play with the belt buckle. + Take short breaks on longer trips to allow your child some freedom of movement. A. The seat belt The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can be installed safely in a forward-facing position on nearly all positions in the car using the available car seat belts. On some seats, however, the belts are fitted so far forward that proper GB installation is not possible. Try a different seat in this case. In some instances, the seat belt buckle may be too long and therefore positioned too high against the base of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR (1). The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can therefore not be installed securely. In that case, choose another seating position in the car. Contact the manufacturer with any questions regarding this. B. Using the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR in a car The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR consists of two parts: an adjustable seat and a removable backrest. The backrest may NEVER be used without the booster seat. We recommend using the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR for children weighing at least 15 kg and tall enough that the shoulder belt rests against their shoulder, not their neck. The points along which the car seat belt should be threaded are marked in red. There is a red-marked opening under the armrests on the seat (lap belt) and red-marked belt hooks on the headrest (shoulder belt). C. Attaching and removing the backrest with the seat Place the backrest of the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR on a flat surface with the front facing downward (2). Next, slide the seat at around a 50° angle into the hooks at the bottom of the backrest as shown in illustrations 2 and 3 (3). Push the seat downwards and under the backrest until they form a seat. The hooks on the lumbar supports will now fall into the openings in the armrests. Continue pushing the backrest until you hear a “click” (4). The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can be disassembled by carrying out these instructions in reverse order. D. Adjusting the height of the headrest + Grab hold of the headrest with one hand on top so that your fingers fit into the positioning handle. Place your other hand on the top of the backrest (5). + Squeeze the positioning handle and pull up on the headrest while pushing against the backrest with your other hand (5,1/5,2). + Once you have reached the desired height, release the positioning handle, thereby allowing it to click into the right position. There are 8 different positions. The “Placing your child in the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR” section describes how to determine the correct height of the headrest for your child. E. Adjusting the position of the shoulder supports The shoulder supports on the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can be adjusted into 2 different positions, depending on the size of the child. Grab hold of the shoulder supports and pull or push them into the desired position (6). We only recommend folding out the shoulder supports on the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR if the space between the shoulders of the child and the shoulder supports is smaller on both sides than the thickness of your hand. This could be caused by thicker or thinner clothing or the fact that the child has grown. F Installing the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR in a car using the anchor Adjust the headrest on the passenger seat into the highest position. Adjust the headrest on the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR into the lowest position (see the “Adjusting the height of the headrest” section).

09-12-2008 11 Ne Pagina 10 Place the anchor between the 2 bars of the headrest on the passenger seat (7). Once the anchor has been secured, both headrests can be adjusted into the desired positions. The anchor cannot be used if the passenger seat is not equipped with a headrest. The anchor is not an essential part of the safety of the child: it is only used to keep the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR stable. Elastic tensioner: The elastic may lose its stretch in time. The elastic tensioner is used to create more tension in the elastic. Pull the elastic tensioner upwards out of the anchor (8,1/8,2). Wrap the elastic around the tensioner until the desired tension has been achieved (8,3). Note: Pull the elastic towards you! Place the tensioner back in the anchor. G. The two Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR positions The Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR can be adjusted into 2 positions (sitting and reclining) (9). + With one hand, pull the booster seat forward using the handle on the front and then pull or push the seat forward or backward into the desired position. At the same time, use your other hand to hold down the front of the Comfort Base (10) Once the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR has been positioned as desired, you may place your child in the car seat. Note: Never adjust the position while a child is in the seat or when driving!

3. PLACING A CHILD IN THE MAXI-COSI RODI XR

Read the “The seat belt” section before placing your child in the car seat. Have your child sit in the Maxi- Cosi Rodi XR (11) with his back firmly against the backrest. Make sure that the child is positioned in the middle of the car seat and not leaning forward away from the backrest. Also make sure there are no toys or other hard objects in the shell. Pull the seat belt around your child. Thread the lap belt under both armrests (11,1). When threaded properly, the belt runs along the red plastic belt guides in the car seat. Fasten the seat buckle (11,2) and pull the lap belt tightly. Make sure that the lap belt does not press against the child's stomach but runs across his hips, and that it is secured tightly. This way, in the case of an accident, a large percentage of the crash forces will be transferred to the pelvis region. Thread the shoulder belt under the armrest through the belt guides and then through the red belt hook in the headrest (11,3). Make sure the belt is not twisted and that it is resting on the child's shoulder. Make sure the headrest has been adjusted to the proper height. The correct height can be determined as follows: + Make sure that the red belt hooks are located at least 10 mm above the child's shoulders (12) + Adjust the height of the headrest until the belt runs from the belt hook to the seat belt retractor in as Straight a line as possible (13). + Make sure that the belt is not resting against the child's neck. Lower the headrest if necessary to prevent this. + Ifthe car seat belt is height adjustable, you can optimise the routing of the belt by adjusting its height. + Pull the shoulder belt tight. When removing the child from the seat, you only need to release the seat belt buckle and pull the belt away from the front of the child. The belt will remain threaded through the red belt hook. This makes is easier to buckle up the child again in the same position. When not in use, secure the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR with the seat belt. CAUTION: The tighter the seat belts around the child, the better protected the child

Remove the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR from the car before cleaning. + The car seat can be cleaned using lukewarm water and soap. Do not use aggressive cleaners like abrasives or thinner. + The cover should be washed by hand at a maximum temperature of 30° C. Do not put it in the dryer (also see washing instructions). GB + Itis advisable to buy an extra cover when purchasing the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR so that you can continue using the car seat when the cover is being washed. Removing the cover + Remove the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR from the car. + Disassemble the backrest and headrest as described under “Attaching and removing the backrest with the seat”

Removing the cover from the booster seat + Remove the cover from the hooks on the bottom (14,1) and top (14,2). + Pull the cover out from under the rim of the plastic belt guides (14,3) and then pull it forward from the back across the armrests (14,4). + The cover should now be fully removed from the booster seat. Removing the cover from the backrest + Undo the elastic strap behind the backrest (15,1). + Remove the cover from the hooks on the back (15,2). + Pull the cover over the lumbar supports (16,1). Make sure the foam parts remain in place. + Remove the cover from the hooks on the inside of the backrest (16,2). + Remove the cover from the hooks at the bottom of the lumbar supports (16,3). Removing the cover from the headrest + Undo the elastic strap behind the headrest (17,1). + Remove the cover from the hooks on the back (17,2). + Remove the cover from the headrest (18,1) and from behind the red belt hooks (18,2). Make sure the foam part remains in place. Æ - Remove the elastic strap from behind the hooks at the bottom of the backrest (18,3) To refit the cover, follow these instructions in reverse order. Make sure the cover is fastened securely behind the hooks and behind both the red belt hooks on the headrest (17,2) and the red belt guides in the booster seat (14,3), so that the car seat belt can be threaded through them.

Follow this list before every trip! + Check to make sure the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is installed properly in the car. Æ + Check to make sure the child is buckled up correctly and tightly and that the shoulder belt is at the correct height (12) (the tighter the belt around the child, the better protected the child). + Check to make sure both the lap belt and shoulder belt are threaded through the red belt guides under the armrests. + Check to make sure the shoulder belt is fitted in front of the child and not behind his back. + Check to make sure both shoulder supports are adjusted to the same, correct position.

+ Check to make sure the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is securely adjusted into one of the two positions (sitting or reclining). + Check to make sure the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR is fastened in the seat belt when not in use. Any loose objects in the car can constitute a danger for passengers. Important! + Make sure the seat belt is not twisted. + The seat belt must rest flat and tightly across the body. + Make sure the shoulder belt is not resting against the child’s neck, but across his shoulder (12). + The lap belt must not push against the child's stomach but run across the upper legs. + lfitis not possible to fasten the seat belt properly or tightly enough, contact your supplier immediately. Do not use the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR under any circumstances.
