Frequently Asked Questions - FRITEUSES LAGRANGE

How to clean the control box?
Never immerse the control box in water. Simply wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products.
Why does the oil overflow or foam?
This can be due to overly moist food, oil that is too old, mixing different oils, or exceeding the recommended quantities. Dry the food well, change the oil, use a single special frying oil, and respect the maximum capacities (1 kg for Super PRO, 700 g for Compact PRO).
What to do if the appliance does not heat?
Check the connection, that the on/off button is set to I, that the thermostat is set to a temperature, that the control box is correctly inserted into its slide, and that the RESET button has not been triggered. If the RESET is triggered, wait for cooling then press the RESET button located behind the control box.
How to change the oil?
Let the fryer cool down for at least one hour without the lid. Pour the used oil into a suitable container. Clean the tank, basket and lid in the dishwasher or with warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly before adding new oil. Do not mix new and used oil.
Can I use solid fat?
Yes, but for the first use, melt it beforehand in a saucepan before pouring it into the fryer. For subsequent uses, make holes in the solidified fat down to the level of the heating element, set the thermostat to 150°C, heat for 1 minute, let cool, and repeat until liquefied. Never heat the fryer empty.
How to reset the RESET button?
After a thermal safety shutdown, wait for the heating element to cool completely. Locate the RESET button behind the control box, in the cord storage compartment under the top wall. Press firmly on the RESET button until it clicks. The appliance can then operate again.
Why are there crackling sounds during cooling?
These sounds are caused by condensation water falling from the lid into the hot oil. Never put the lid back on the fryer during cooling after the last frying. If you hear these sounds, change the oil before next use.
How long should I heat the oil before frying?
Heat until the red light goes out, indicating the set temperature is reached. The time varies depending on the amount of oil and the chosen temperature. Generally, a few minutes are enough.
Can I wash the basket in the dishwasher?
Yes, the basket and its handle can be washed in the dishwasher. You can also wash them by hand with a sponge and dish soap. Make sure to dry all parts thoroughly before reassembling the appliance.
How to extend the life of the oil?
Filter the oil after each use with a metal strainer or special filter paper to remove particles. Do not salt food over the tank. Change the oil every 8 to 10 uses, or as soon as it becomes dark, rancid, or foams abnormally.

Cord:

The mains cord must be carefully examined before each use. If it is damaged, the appliance must not be used.

To avoid any danger, the cord should only be replaced by the manufacturer, their after-sales service provider or a qualified professional approved by the manufacturer.

The cord is type H05 VV-F 3x1mm ^2

These appliances conform to directives 73/23/EEC, 89/336/EEC, DEEE 2002/96/CE, RoHs 2002/95/CE, CE 1935/2004.

Environmental Protection – DIRECTIVE 2002/96/CE

To protect the environment and people's health, it is important for everyone, including all suppliers and users, to follow specific guidelines for the disposal of any electrical appliance at the end of its useful life. For this reason, the appliance at hand bears the marking on its data plate to remind you never to dispose of it in any public or private bin meant for household rubbish.

Instead, you should return it to your retail shop or drop it off at a collection site that uses selective sorting to redirect items for recycling and eventual reuse in other applications.

Safety.

* Persons (including children) who are not capable of using the appliance safely, either because of their physical, sensory or mental abilities, or because of their lack of experience or knowledge, may under no circumstances use the appliance without supervision or instructions from a responsible person
* These appliances are not designed to be activated using an external timer or a separate remote control system.
* Do not touch the appliance's metallic parts when it is switched on, as these are hot.
* Plug your appliance into a 10/16A earthed socket. Check that your electrical installation conforms to norms currently in force and is compatible with the power rating and voltage indicated on your appliance.
* We recommend that the appliance is connected to an electrical installation that includes a residual current device (RCD) with a breaking current no greater than 30 mA.
* Never place appliance in an oven or on/near an electric/gas cooker ring. Make sure your fryer is not placed under any water outlets.
* Do not leave cord where someone might trip over it.
* The cord must never come into contact with hot parts of the appliance.
* Never leave the appliance unsupervised when it is in use. Keep appliance out of reach of children and other individuals who cannot be held responsible for their actions.
* Never place your appliance on a surface that is not level, is unstable or easily damaged (oilcloth, glass, polished wood, etc.) This is to avoid falls and damage.

* To avoid any danger, do not use appliance if it has been dropped or shows any visible signs of damage. In such a situation, return the appliance to the after-sales service provider.

* Disconnect appliance when cooking is finished.
* Never immerse element, cord or control box in water. Clean them with a damp cloth.
* When you refill the bowl, always make sure there is no water in the bottom.
* Do not mix different types of cooking fats. Use a specialist deep-frying oil.
* If you use a solid cooking fat, melt it first in another receptacle (see Section 2 – Getting Started).
* Check that the oil level is always between the MIN and MAX levels marked inside the bowl.

Never switch the fryer on when the bowl is empty or if the oil level is below the MIN marker.

* Do not move the appliance while it is in operation or when it is still hot.
* Never put the lid on the appliance when it is still cooling down.

Condensation will form on the lid and drop into the oil. This can cause the oil to splatter or boil over.

* If you hear any spluttering sounds in the bowl while it is cooling down after use, change the oil before you use the appliance again.
* Unplug appliance and let it cool down completely before any cleaning operation.
* This appliance is intended for domestic use only. The manufacturer will not accept responsibility in cases of any use for professional purposes, inappropriate use or failure to comply with these instructions. Such use is not covered by the guarantee.

Set-Up and Use.

1 First Use

When unpacking your appliance, ensure that all materials used to secure the appliance in transit (wedges, etc.) are carefully removed.

* Remove lid and basket.
* Lift up the control box.
* Take out the bowl.
* Wash the inside of the bowl and the basket.
* Important: dry all parts carefully before use

Assembling Basket

* To attach handle: squeeze the two outside edges together and fit them into the two housings situated inside the basket, at the bottom.
* Pull the handle backwards and clip it into the U-shaped orifice. This locks it in place.
* To fold handle back after use, push it forwards towards inside of basket.

Handle Assembly

2 Getting Started

* Put all the parts in place (bowl, control box). The control box must be properly inserted into its runners.

NB: the control box is fitted with a safety cut-out: it will not operate unless fitted correctly to the appliance.

* Put your appliance in your chosen position (level surface).
* Fill fryer with specialist deep-frying oil, making sure that the level falls between the (lower) MIN and (higher) MAX markers inside the bowl. Oil capacity is:

  • approx. 2.5 litres (Compact PRO® model REF 369 001)
  • approx. 4 litres (Super PRO® model REF 369 005).

To prevent the element from overheating, it is imperative that the oil level reaches the MIN marker and covers the element.

* Remove mains cord from its storage area, unwind it fully and plug it in.
* Switch fryer on by turning button to position 'I'.
* Turn thermostat (clockwise) to required temperature. The red indicator light comes on. The light goes off when the oil/fat reaches the required temperature. Your fryer is ready to cook.

NB: if you use a solid fat instead of oil, our recommendations are as follows.

When the fat is used for the first time, first melt it in a saucepan and then pour the melted fat into the fryer. This is necessary because if fat is solid it will not be in direct contact with the thermostat. This in turn creates a risk of the element overheating and the thermal cut-out triggering.

For subsequent uses, make a few holes in the re-solidified fat (down as far as the element), set the thermostat to 150^ C, leave it to heat up (1 minute only), then leave it for a few minutes to cool down. Repeat until the fat liquefies.

3 Thermal Cut-Out

Your LAGRANGE fryer is fitted with a thermal cut-out which prevents any abnormal rise in temperature.

When the thermal cut-out is triggered, the fryer will no longer operate. To use your fryer again, you must wait until the element cools down then re-set the thermal fuse by pushing the RESET button.

This is situated at the rear of the control box, in the area provided for stowing the cord under the upper surface.

4 Use

* Place the food (already wiped) in the basket.
* Preferably do not fill basket more than 2/3 full. This means that all the food can be properly immersed in the oil and it also prevents splattering.

Maximum recommended capacity:

1kg (Super PRO® model)

700g (Compact PRO® model)

* Lower basket into oil slowly to allow any water present in the food to evaporate.
* Remove basket when cooking is finished.
* Place basket in draining position.
* Remove basket completely and turn food out onto serving dish.

Tips for use.

This appliance is designed mainly for cooking potatoes but you can also use it to cook fritters, fish, etc.

Chef's secret:

Cook your chips the professional way - without the lid. They will be crisper!

* For frozen foods, we recommend that they are cooked from frozen. Use smaller quantities. Remove as much excess ice as possible.
* For fresh chips, it is better to rinse them in hot water to remove any starch and dry them well before cooking.
* To avoid oil deteriorating too quickly, do not add salt to food while it is cooking or when basket is over the bowl.
* Use a specialist deep-frying oil – it is designed to resist high temperatures without deteriorating.

* Fill basket to 2/3 maximum. This helps prevent oil boiling over.
* Dry food well to ensure a nice crispy finish.
* Let basket drain well before removing it.
* Drain fried food after cooking, using absorbent paper.
* Filter the oil after each use to remove particles of burnt food.
* Change the oil after every 10 uses maximum.

Lid

* The lid is fitted with a permanent filter, a window and a handle.
* When cooking begins, place the lid on the fryer. The lid is equipped with two slots to accommodate the handle.
* To drain food, remove the lid and put basket in the drainage position.

VERY IMPORTANT

Drain the lid well before replacing it on the fryer between cooking batches.

When you have finished cooking, never put the lid on when the appliance is still cooling down.

* After use, turn thermostat back to the '0' position and set On/Off button to '0'.
* Disconnect the plug.
* Leave appliance to cool down for at least 1 hour without replacing lid.
* Important : Do not move the fryer when it is hot.

Looking after cooking oil.

* When the fryer has cooled down (1 hour minimum), we recommend you remove any residue in the following way. Filter the oil using a metal (NOT plastic) sieve or a specialist filter paper.

If you do this, your oil will stay clean and healthy.

* Oil quality deteriorates each time the appliance is used. Replace oil as soon as it becomes dark, dirty, rancid, if it starts to foam more than usual or if you hear a noise when it is cooling down.

* We recommend that oil is replaced after every 8-10 uses.

* When replacing oil, replace it all at once. Do not mix new oil and used oil. Use the same type of oil, preferably a specialist deep-frying oil.

Cleaning

* Your fryer is very easy to clean because all its parts are detachable: lid, basket, bowl and control box with built-in element.
* After each use, wipe exterior of fryer with a soft, dry cloth in order to remove splatters and traces of fat.
* The basket and basket handle can be placed in a dishwasher or washed with a sponge and washing-up liquid.
* When filtering or replacing oil, take the opportunity to wash the bowl, basket and lid. These can be placed in the dishwasher or washed in hot water with a washing-up product added.
Leave to soak for 10 minutes. Rinse carefully and wipe dry.

Important: the control box and its element must not be immersed in water or placed under running water. Simply wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Storage

* To store your fryer, simply put it back together in the following order: bowl, control box with built-in element. Replace the control box correctly on its runners. If not, the appliance will not operate.

Then put the basket in the bowl with the handle folded back. Put the lid on and stow the cord in its housing.
