Espresso and Coffee

There is a whole string of ways in which you can obtain your espresso or coffee, so that it meets your own individual requirements:

■ try out the various sorts of coffee available -the degrees of roasting are very different.
■ vary the degree of grinding the beans, to find the optimum for your taste.
■ select one or other of the three coffeemeal quantities ( . or
■ fill the cups to a greater or lesser degree.

Should you fancy drinking a completely different coffee, then use an already-ground proprietary coffee meal, which might be decaffeinated, for instance.

Before first use

Remove the protective foil from the base grid.
■ Remove the strip of paper from the filling funnel of the coffee-beans container.

Determining the hardness of the water

Before using for the first time or after a change in the hardness of the water, it is necessary to adjust the appliance to the appropriate degree of hardness.

You can either find out the water hardness by asking the local water authority or you can determine it by using the test piece in stick form supplied with the appliance.

Immerse the test stick in cold water for one second. Shake off the surplus water and determine the hardness by observing the pink-coloured area.
