Frequently Asked Questions - DHP-W220AV D-LINK

How do I set up my D-Link DHP-W220AV Powerline adapter?
Plug the adapter directly into a wall outlet (not a power strip). Connect an Ethernet cable from the adapter to your router or device. Press the Pairing button on this adapter and then press the Pairing button on another compatible Powerline adapter within 2 minutes to establish a secure connection.
What should I do if the Powerline LED is off?
Ensure the adapter is plugged into a working wall outlet. Try a different outlet or press the Pairing button to reconnect. If the issue persists, check if the connected Powerline device is powered on and within range.
Can I use this adapter with other brands?
This adapter supports the HomePlug AV standard, so it should be compatible with other HomePlug AV certified adapters from other brands. However, for optimal performance, D-Link recommends using D-Link Powerline devices.
How do I reset my DHP-W220AV to factory defaults?
Locate the Reset button on the adapter. Use a paperclip or similar object to press and hold the button for about 10 seconds until the LEDs blink. Release the button; the adapter will restart and reset to factory settings.
What is the maximum data speed of this Powerline adapter?
The DHP-W220AV supports data rates up to 500 Mbps. Actual throughput may vary depending on your home's electrical wiring, distance, and interference.
Does the adapter work through surge protectors or power strips?
For best performance, plug the adapter directly into a wall outlet. Surge protectors and power strips can filter out the Powerline signal and reduce speed or cause connection issues.
How can I improve the connection speed?
To improve speed, ensure adapters are on the same electrical circuit. Avoid long cable runs, use direct wall outlets, and minimize distance between adapters. Also, update firmware if available.
Is the connection secure?
Yes, the adapter uses 128-bit AES encryption to secure data transmitted over your electrical wiring. The pairing process creates a unique encrypted connection between paired adapters.
Can I connect multiple Powerline adapters together?
Yes, you can pair up to 16 DHP-W220AV or compatible adapters in a single Powerline network. Simply pair each additional adapter with an existing one using the Pairing button.
What does the Ethernet LED indicate?
The Ethernet LED shows the status of the wired connection. Solid green indicates a 1000 Mbps connection, solid amber indicates 10/100 Mbps, and off means no link.
