General Power Tool Safety rules
WARNING
Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings
and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
Before use, check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or ageing. If the cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the supply immediately. DO NOT TOUCH THE CORD BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE SUPPLY. Do not use the garden product if the cord is damaged or worn. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. - When in use, perform a daily visual inspection to identify any significant damage or defects. This inspection must also be completed if the tool is dropped or subjected to any significant impacts. It is recommended for increased electrical safety to use a Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30 mA. Always check your RCD every time you use it. Always ensure tool ventilation openings are kept free of debris. Observe also the safety notes and instructions in the user manual of the power unit.

Hedge trimmer safety warnings
- Keep all parts of the body away from the cutter blade. Do not remove cut material nor hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Make sure the tool is switched off and unplugged when clearing jammed material. A moment of inattention while operating the hedge trimmer may result in serious personal injury.
- Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the cutter blade stopped. When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always fit the cutting device cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will reduce possible personal injury from the cutter blades. Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the cutter blade may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutter blades contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
- Keep cable away from cutting area. During operation, the cable may be hidden in shrubs and can be accidentally cut by the blade.
Additional safety warnings
This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the hedgecutter. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. When not in use, store the hedgecutter out of reach of children. When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The power tool is guided more secure with both hands. Wait until the machine has come to a standstill before placing it down. Other persons and animals should remain at a distance of 3 metres or more when the machine is being used. The operator is responsible for third persons in the working area. Never grasp the blade of the hedgecutter. Children or persons unfamiliar with these instructions must not operate the hedgecutter. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. Never cut a hedge while people, especially children or pets, are nearby. The operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. Do not operate the hedgecutter when barefoot or wearing open sandals, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. The use of sturdy gloves, non-skid footwear and safety glasses is recommended. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery which can be caught in moving parts. Thoroughly inspect the area where the hedgecutter is to be used and remove all wires and other foreign objects.
Prior to operation, check cutter blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly for wear or damage. Do not operate with a damaged or excessively worn cutting device. Know how to stop the hedgecutter quickly in an emergency. Before operation check the safe double locking function of the blade swivel mechanism. The blade can suddenly fold down, if unlocked and comes into contact with a branch. Cut a hedge only in daylight or in good artificial light. Never operate the hedgecutter with defective guards or without the guard in place. Always ensure all handles and guards supplied are fitted when using the hedgecutter. Never attempt to use an incomplete hedgecutter or one with an unauthorised modification. Never hold the hedgecutter by the guard. While operating the hedgecutter always be sure of a safe and secure operating position at all times, especially when using steps or a ladder. Always be aware of your surroundings and stay alert for possible hazards that you may not hear whilst operating the hedgecutter. Remove the plug from the socket:
- before checking, clearing a blockage or working on the hedgecutter.
- After striking a foreign object, inspect the hedgecutter for damage and make repairs as necessary.
- If the hedgecutter starts to vibrate abnormally, check immediately.
The hedgecutter should be stored in a dry, high or locked-up place out of the reach of children. Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Do not attempt to repair the machine unless you are qualified to do so.
Maintenance
Always wear gardening gloves when handling or working near the sharp blades. Examine the machine and replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Always lubricate the cutting blade with protective spray before storage. - Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure that the machine is in safe working condition. Ensure replacement parts fitted are Bosch approved.

Follow the safety instructions and instructions for working with the machine.
Safety instructions for working with electric hedge trimmers
Keep the cutting area clear. Do not attempt to remove cut material while the blade is moving, or to grasp cut material. Remove cut material only when the machine is switched off and the blade is at a standstill. Avoid contact with the cutting blade. Warning: Contact with the cutting blade can cause personal injury. Use the electric hedge trimmer only when the blade is moving. When switching off or unplugging the hedge trimmer, always place it down carefully. Careful handling of the electric hedge trimmer reduces the risk of injury from the blades. Hold the electric hedge trimmer only by the insulated gripping surfaces, as the blade may come into contact with hidden wiring or its own power cord. If the blade comes into contact with a live wire, the metal parts of the tool may become live and cause an electric shock. Keep the power cord away from the cutting area. During work, the power cord may be hidden and could be cut accidentally.
