Frequently Asked Questions - HS2800N Cocraft

What type of material can I shred with the Cocraft HS2800N?
The shredder is designed for biodegradable garden waste such as twigs, branches from bushes, hedges, and small trees. Do not shred soil-covered roots, stones, metal, glass, fabric, paper, plastic, or kitchen waste.
How do I start the shredder?
First, ensure the collection box is locked in place and the safety switch is up. Connect to a 230 V, 50 Hz outlet with a 30 mA RCD. Set the rotation direction selector to ↓ (clockwise), then press the On switch [I].
What should I do if the blade gets jammed?
Switch off the shredder and wait for the blade to stop. Set the rotation direction selector to ↑ (reverse), then press and hold the spring-loaded On switch to reverse the blade. For stubborn blockages, unplug the unit, remove the blade cover, and clear debris manually.
How do I adjust the pressure plate?
With the shredder running (clockwise), slowly turn the pressure plate adjustment screw clockwise until you hear a scraping sound and see aluminum shavings. This sets the gap to 0 mm for optimal shredding.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always wear ear protection, eye protection, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Keep hands and feet away from the hopper and discharge opening. Never use in rain or on wet surfaces. Ensure the product is on a level surface and all covers are secure.
The shredder won't start – what could be wrong?
Check that the collection box safety switch is fully up, the extension cable is intact and connected, the wall socket is live, and the overload protection has not tripped. If tripped, wait 1-2 minutes and press the reset button.
How do I maintain the shredder?
Always unplug before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth using mild detergent. Keep ventilation slots free of debris. Never use a pressure washer or hose. Store in a dry, dust-free area out of children's reach.
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, but it must be suitable for outdoor use (minimum H07RN-F), with a conductor cross-section of 1.5 mm² for lengths up to 25 m and 2.5 mm² for longer lengths. Always uncoil the entire cable and inspect for damage.
How do I dispose of the shredder at the end of its life?
Do not dispose with household waste. Take it to a local recycling facility or contact the place of purchase for environmentally sound disposal, in accordance with EU directives.
What is the maximum branch diameter the HS2800N can handle?
The shredder can process branches up to 45 mm in diameter. Do not overload the machine – feed material consistently and avoid forcing large branches.

Instructions for use

The garden shredder is only designed for shredding biodegradable garden waste such as twigs and branches from bushes, hedges and small trees. It must not be used for processing earth-covered roots, stones, metal, glass, fabric, paper or plastic. Neither should the shredder be used for material that does not have a firm consistency, e.g. kitchen waste.

Switching on/off

  1. Connect the shredder to a 230 V, 50 Hz mains outlet protected by a 30 mA residual current device (RCD).
  2. Check that the hopper (15) is empty.
  3. Press the rotation direction selector (20) down to enable the blade to rotate clockwise. Then press [1] (16) to switch the shredder on.
  4. Press [o] to switch the shredder off.

Reversing the blade to clear jams

Cocraft HS2800N - Reversing the blade to clear jams - 1

The rotation direction selector switch must only be used when the shredder is switched off and the blade drum has stopped rotating.

Switch the shredder off, wait until the blade drum has stopped rotating and set the selector to ↑. Press and hold down [I] to start the shredder, [I] the switch is spring-loaded and needs to be held down in reverse mode. The blade drum will rotate in reverse for as long as the switch is held down. This will enable any material which has fastened in the hopper to be freed and pulled out.

In case of stubborn blockages

Material that doesn't free when the blade is reversed might need to be cleared from inside the cutter housing.

Proceed as follows:

  1. ⚠️ Switch the shredder off and unplug it from the mains supply.
  2. Remove the four socket head screws (21) that hold the blade housing cover (22), using the included hex key.
  3. Remove the cover and clear away any debris from around the blade (23) so that it can rotate freely.
  4. Refit the blade cover and screw it securely into place.

Cocraft HS2800N - In case of stubborn blockages - 1

natural_image Interior view of a vintage computer case showing internal mechanical components (no visible text or symbols)

Note: The shredder is fitted with a no-volt release switch which prevents the machine from automatically starting again after a power cut.

Overload safety cut-out

  1. If the shredder is overloaded, e.g. the blade drum is jammed, the motor will automatically stop after a few seconds.

The overload cut-out protection switch automatically cuts off the power supply to the motor. Wait for 1–2 minutes to give the motor time to cool before pressing the reset button (17).

  1. Then press [I] to start the shredder again.

Adjusting the pressure plate

The cutting mechanism consists of a rotating blade drum and a pressure plate which the blade on the drum strikes against. For optimum shredding, the gap between the blade and the pressure plate should be 0–0.5 mm. The gap is pre-set by the manufacturer and should not need to be adjusted before the shredder is used for the first time. After some use, the pressure plate may need to be adjusted in order for the shredder to work effectively. This is done as follows:

  1. Set the rotation direction selector (20) to ↓ for normal use. Start the shredder. Turn the adjustment screw (11) slowly and carefully (half a turn moves the pressure plate about 0.5 mm) clockwise until a scraping sound is heard and small aluminium shavings fall out of the ejection port.

  2. The gap between the blade and the pressure plate is now 0 mm and is set for optimum shredding.

General advice

  • Make sure that you have read and understood the entire instruction manual before using the product.
  • Wear ear and eye protection, safety gloves and sturdy work clothing.
  • Wearing a helmet with a visor is recommended.
  • Caution: If long branches are fed into the machine there is a risk that they will whip and thrash around – keep a safe distance.
  • Feed the material to be shredded into the right-hand side of the hopper mouth.
  • Do not overload the shredder or clog the hopper by feeding in too much material at once.
  • To avoid the unit clogging up, mix freshly cut branches or leafy material with drier materials such as twigs.
  • Kitchen waste and soft materials must not be fed into the shredder.
  • Let branches with lots of twigs and leaves feed all the way into the hopper before attempting to feed in any more material.
  • Make sure to empty the collection box before it becomes full to prevent the material in the box from hindering new material from passing through.
  • Keep the motor housing ventilation slots free from debris.

Care and maintenance

  • Disconnect the shredder from the mains before carrying out any servicing or cleaning operations.
  • Clean the exterior of the shredder using a moist cloth. Use only mild cleaning agents, never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
  • Never wash the shredder using a pressure washer or hosepipe. Under no circumstances must water get into the machine.
  • Disconnect the shredder from the mains and store it in a dry and dust-free area and out of the reach of children whenever it is not to be used for an extended period.

Responsible disposal

This symbol indicates that the product should not be disposed of with general household waste. This applies throughout the entire EU. In order to prevent any harm to the environment or health hazards caused by incorrect waste disposal, the product must be handed in for recycling so that the material can be disposed of in a responsible manner.
