Frequently Asked Questions - MUL-005 Steren

How to measure DC voltage with the MUL-005?
Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA jack and black to COM. Set the selector switch to the V= (DC voltage) range. If the voltage is unknown, start at the highest range and reduce step by step. Connect the test leads to the circuit. Read the voltage and polarity on the LCD.
How to measure AC voltage?
Connect the red test lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Set the selector to V~ (AC voltage). Choose the appropriate range (200V or 750V). Connect the test leads to the circuit. Read the RMS voltage on the display.
How to measure DC current?
For currents up to 200mA, connect red lead to VΩmA and black to COM. For currents up to 10A, connect red lead to the 10A jack. Set the selector to A= (DC current) range. Open the circuit and connect the meter in series. Read the current on the display.
How to measure resistance?
Connect the red test lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Set the selector to Ω (resistance) range. If measuring in-circuit, turn off power and discharge capacitors. Connect the test leads across the resistance. Read the value on the LCD.
How to test a diode?
Connect the red test lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Set the selector to the diode symbol. Connect the red lead to the anode and black to the cathode. The forward voltage will be displayed in mV. If the diode is shorted or open, the display will indicate accordingly.
How to check continuity?
Connect the red test lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Set the selector to the continuity symbol (often a speaker icon). Connect the test leads to the circuit. If the resistance is less than 100Ω, the multimeter will emit a continuous beep.
How to test a transistor with the MUL-005?
First determine if the transistor is NPN or PNP and identify the emitter, base, and collector leads. Set the selector to hFE. Insert the transistor into the appropriate socket (E, B, C) according to its type. The display will show the approximate hFE value.
What is the maximum voltage I can measure?
The maximum DC voltage is 1000V DC, and maximum AC voltage is 750V AC. Never exceed these limits to avoid damage or injury.
How to replace the battery and fuse?
Turn off the meter and disconnect test leads. Unscrew the battery compartment cover on the back. Remove the old 9V battery and replace with a new one, observing polarity. To replace the fuse, locate the 200mA/250V fuse near the battery and replace if blown. Reattach the cover.
What safety precautions should I follow?
Always start with the highest range when measuring unknown values. Never apply more than 1000V DC or 750V AC. Do not measure voltage when the selector is in current, resistance, or diode mode. Discharge capacitors before measuring resistance. Turn off the meter when not in use.

IMPORTANT

Before using your new Digital multimeter, please read the following recommendations.

NEVER apply voltage or current that exceeds the maximum specifications of measurement in the multimeter.

CAUTION when you are working with high voltages.

DO NOT MEASURE voltages higher than 1000V in DC or 750V in AC

NEVER connect testing cables to a voltage source, when the switch is in one of next modes: Current, Resistance, or Test diode. Doing so may damage the meter

ALWAYS discharge the capacitors before measuring.

ALWAYS turn the mutilmeter off when is not in use.
