Frequently Asked Questions - Shape Twin FOCAL

What is the recommended placement for the Shape Twin monitors?

Place the monitors at least 20 cm from walls to avoid bass buildup. Position them so that the tweeters are at ear level. The stereo triangle should be equilateral with the listening position. Use the high-pass filter (80 Hz) if using a subwoofer.

What cables do I need to connect the Shape Twin?

Use balanced XLR or TRS cables for best noise rejection, especially for long runs. Unbalanced RCA cables work but may introduce hum. Ensure the input selector switch on the rear matches your cable type.

How do I adjust the acoustic settings on the Shape Twin?

On the rear panel, use the HIGH FREQ switch to adjust treble (0 or -3 dB) and the LOW-MID switch to adjust 200-250 Hz range (0, -1.5, -3 dB). The HP FILTER sets the high-pass cutoff for the woofers: FULL (no filter), 80 Hz, or 150 Hz.

Why is my Shape Twin not turning on?

Check that the power cord is securely connected and the power switch is on. Verify the mains voltage matches the monitor's rating. If the auto standby is enabled (>30 min no signal), send an audio signal or disable standby via the rear switch.

What does the blinking LED on the front indicate?

A blinking green LED means the monitor is in standby mode. A solid green LED indicates normal operation. If the LED turns red, there is a fault (overheating or overload); reduce volume and allow cooling.

Can I use the Shape Twin as a home theater speaker?

Yes, but note that it is a professional studio monitor with high accuracy. For home theater, you may want to use the high-pass filter to match a subwoofer. Avoid placing the monitor too close to walls to reduce bass exaggeration.

How do I clean the Shape Twin monitor?

Disconnect power first. Wipe the cabinet with a dry, soft cloth. For grime, slightly dampen the cloth with water (no solvents). The tweeter and woofers can be gently dusted with a soft brush; do not press on the diaphragm.

What is the warranty period for the Shape Twin?

Focal typically offers a 2-year manufacturer warranty from date of purchase. Registration may be required. Terms vary by region; check with your dealer.

Can I mount the Shape Twin on a wall or stand?

Yes, the monitor has four M6 threaded inserts on the bottom for mounting on stands or brackets. Use Focal-approved mounting hardware. Ensure the mount supports the weight (8.1 kg). Do not block the rear ventilation openings.

Why is there a hissing noise from the tweeter?

A slight hiss is normal for active monitors due to the amplifier. If excessive, check for ground loops (use balanced cables) or interference from nearby electronics. The hiss should be inaudible at listening distance (1 meter).
