Before playing for the first time, carefully press the tiles out of the perforated cardboard. Important: Immediately dispose of the remaining pieces from the perforated cardboard to eliminate any choking hazards.
Discovering details in freestyle play
In freestyle play, your child becomes familiar with the game materials. Together, look at all the illustrations on the game box, play figures, tiles and puzzles. Talk to your child about all the details. This will help make your child more attentive, while training language skills and increasing vocabulary.

If the children are a little older and already familiar with the game materials, you can also be more specific with your questions, such as:
Which objects go along with the parakeet/ hamster/ cat/ turtle? Which of these pets have you seen/cuddled with before? What do you know about dogs, cats...? Make up some names for the pet play figures.
Playing games and having fun
Game 1: Doghouse rally
A fun die race with a game variation for 2 to 4 little dog walkers.
The children go for a walk with their dogs. The first one to arrive at the dog houses in the garden win the most bones.
Required game materials:
Game landscape and path, pets & pals play figures, die
Game Setup
Place the game landscape in the center of the playing area, aligning the path with the illustrations (terrace door by the dog houses, start at the front door). Each child selects a pets & pals play figure and places it on the large starting square at the beginning of the path by the front door. Have the die ready.

natural_image
Colorful toy furniture including a painted character, a green wall, and a brick building (no visible text or symbols)Let the game begin!
The children take turns, proceeding clockwise. The player who last petted a dog begins by rolling the die.
Ask the child: How many bones can you count on the die?
The child counts the bones on the die. If he counts correctly, he earns a round of applause. If he is having difficulties counting the bones, help him out.
Now the child moves his/her figure the corresponding number of squares on the way to the dog houses. More than one play figure can be placed on a given square.
Now it is the next child's turn to roll the die.
End of game
The first player to arrive with his play figure at the dog houses (extra bones on the die do not count) has won and may place his play figure at the biggest doghouse, where there is a dog bowl with 3 bones.
The other children quickly continue playing and when all play figures have arrived at the dog houses, the children bark and howl for joy; a wonderful woof-woof concert!
Variation: Tasty bone!

natural_image
Illustration of a cartoon-style room with colorful wall decorations and geometric layout (no text or symbols)Required game materials:
3 bone tiles of your choice, wooden bones
Game Setup
Distribute the 3 bone tiles over the path, only one bone tile per square. Place as many wooden bones on each doghouse as are in the dog bowls. Put the rest of the wooden bones next to the game landscape to draw from.
Let the game begin!
The same rules apply as in Doghouse rally with the following additions:
When a play figure lands on a square with a bone tile (the color is not important) the player may take a wooden bone from the drawing pile.
The first player to arrive at the doghouses is rewarded with three bones at the largest doghouse, the second dog receives 2 bones and the third, one bone.
Once all figures are at the doghouses, the children count all the bones they've collected along the way, including the bones from the doghouses. Children who cannot count well will need your assistance. The child with the most bones wins. In case of a tie, both or all children win.

Game 2: Where did it go?
An amusing memory game with a variation for 2 to 4 children with memory skills as strong and long as elephants!
My goodness! The children and their pets have romped throughout the house. Now everything is all mixed up. Feed, bird cage and toys are spread all over the place. Who will be the first to find his pet's belongings?
Required game materials:
Game landscape (game box bottom), deposit boards, pet play figures, object tiles
Game Setup
Place the game landscape without the path in the center of the playing area. Each child selects a pet and takes the corresponding deposit board. When less than four children are playing, the remaining deposit boards and object tiles are set aside as they will not be needed. Show the children the various object tiles and explain how three objects belong to each pet. The colors help the children to match objects to pets. Now, mix all tiles and distribute them face down over the game landscape, so only the back side is showing.

natural_image
Colorful toy furniture and accessories arranged in a grid-like layout (no visible text or symbols)Let the game begin!
The children take turns, proceeding clockwise. The player who last tidied up their room begins by choosing an object tile and placing his pet next to it. Now the child turns the tile over.
Ask the child: Did you find and object that belongs to your pet?
- Yes? Excellent! You get to take the tile and your pet back to your deposit board and place the tile on one of the marked spaces.
- No! Too bad! Try to remember the object on the tile. Turn the tile back over and take your pet back to your deposit board.
Now, it is the next child's turn.
End of game
The child who is the first to collect all his pet's belongings wins the game. The other children can continue to play until all object tiles have been returned to their pets.
Tip: To increase the challenge when playing with less than four children, add the object tiles from the pet(s) not in play. When a tile is turned over, the children try to remember it before it is turned back over. Then it is the next child's turn.
Variation: Cooperative memory race against Clara and her pet dog Otto

natural_image
Illustration of a colorful cartoon-style play room with multiple cards and a central stage (no text or symbols)ENGLISH

Additional required game materials:
4 bone tiles, yellow puppy & pal play figure (Otto & Clara), path, die
Game Setup
Just like in the game variation "Where did it go?" the tiles are mixed and distributed face down over the box bottom. The puppy & pal play figure Clara with her dog Otto are placed on the space by the doghouses. Have the die ready to roll.
Let the game begin!
The same rules apply as in Where did it go? with the following modifications:
The children compete cooperatively against Clara and her dog Otto. Can they clean up before Clara and Otto reach the house?
If a child turns over a tile with a dog bone, he rolls the die and moves the puppy & pal play figure forward the number of spaces corresponding to the bones on the die. The bone tile is then turned back over. Matching object tiles are placed on the current player's deposit board when they match his pet. The children can help each other out.
If all the object tiles are matched to the right pet before Clara and Otto reach the front door, the children have won.
If Clara and Otto reach the door before all the tiles have been found, then the children lose and can try again right away.
Game 3: Snatch & sort it!
A rapid reaction game for 2 to 4 agile animal lovers.
Oh dear! Everything is all mixed up! The frisky dogs have taken everything into the garden and hidden the objects! Even the dog bones are scattered among the other things on the path next to the house. Who can snatch and sort the objects, returning them to the right pet?
Required game materials:
all object tiles, all bone tiles, all play figures, 10 wooden bones, path
Game Setup
Lay the path in the center of the playing area. Place all the play figures within easy reach of all players. Mix the tiles and place one tile face down on each of the squares on the path. The rest of the tiles are returned face down to the box as they will not be needed. The wooden bones are laid on the square in front of the dog houses.

natural_image
Illustration of a children's play board layout with numbered cards and colorful toys (no text or symbols)Let the game begin!
All children play at the same time. Everyone puts their hands behind their backs. The oldest child or the adult turns over the tile on the first square after start. All players try to quickly match the tile to its owner. The colors help to match correctly, as the bone tiles also are color coordinated with the puppy & pal play figures.
The player who knows which play figure matches the object on the tile, quickly snatches up the corresponding play figure. If it is the right figure, the child wins a wooden bone.
The tile remains turned up and the child who won the wooden bone turns over the next tile.
A player snatching the wrong figure replaces the figure and may no longer snatch during this tile round.
End of game
When all tiles have been turned over, the game ends. The child with the most bones wins the game. If there is a tie, then both or all children win together.

Reading & listening
Send your child on a discovery tour! As you read the first two stories, your child will discover many details on the puzzles. The third story invites your child to reenact the plot with tiles and figures on the game landscape.
Story 1
Two bunnies find a new home
Required material: Pet store puzzle

natural_image
Illustration of a turtle with a patterned shell (no text or symbols)Today, Henry and Mia are going to the pet store with mommy. They are very excited, because they are finally allowed to choose a pet. Henry really wants to get a dog. But mommy said they are away from home too many hours of the day at kindergarten, school and work, and they simply do not have enough time to properly exercise a dog with dog walks everyday. Henry thinks that is too bad, but he's hopeful that they can find another animal at the pet store that is just as much fun as a dog.
The moment they enter the pet store Henry immediately notices the large terrarium. "Look mommy! That big snake is really cool!" Mommy shudders because she is bit afraid of snakes. "No Henry, you're too young to have a snake. And besides, I don't really like snakes." "Then we'll buy a couple of turtles," Henry suggests and points to the topmost terrarium. But before mommy can answer him, Mia calls from the other side of the pet store. "A turtle is much too slow and boring, Henry!"
Mia is standing by the bunnies. A friendly store clerk has just given the bunnies fresh hay and allows Mia to carefully pet the animals. "They are so cute and so soft!" Mia exclaims. Henry and mommy come over to the bunny cage and both are immediately enchanted by the adorable hoppers. "Their ears are shorter than the hare we saw at the edge of the forest, aren't they mommy?" Mommy nodded, "Bunnies are smaller than hares and bunnies live in groups."
"Quite right!" the store clerk agreed. "Bunnies should be kept in pairs. They need a spacious hutch, and are most happy when they can cavort around outside in summertime in a fenced run." "Our garden is large enough for a nice run," mommy says. "So bunnies would be the perfect pet for us, wouldn't they?" Mia asked with shining eyes. Mommy smiled and nodded, saying "Each of you may pick out a bunny." Mia likes the white bunny best and Henry chooses a brown one with white spots. Naturally, they need many things to make sure the bunnies feel comfortable in their new home. They buy a hutch, feed bowls and a water bottle, a cozy sleeping cabin, feed and hay and even some litter, toys and treats. Mia and Henry are very happy, "Yippee! We finally have a pet! No, we have even two pets!"

Story 2
A merry walk in the park

natural_image
White bone symbol on a red checkered background (no text or symbols)Required material: Park puzzle
Hello, my name is Thea. My dog has tousled brown and white fur and her name is Lilly. Of course, I take very good care of her; I brush her fur and take her for walks every day. We also play together. A dog like Lilly needs plenty of love and exercise to stay healthy and happy.
Today, the weather is wonderful and we go to the park together. I buckle Lilly's sky blue collar on her and clip on the leash. The park is busy with many people who own several other dogs of varying breeds. We see poodles, setters, pugs, golden retrievers and many more. Every dog breed looks unique. Some are bigger and some are smaller than Lilly. Lilly is a mixed breed. That means her parents were not the same breed, making Lilly a mixture of different breeds
We wander a bit down the park path. Lilly is wagging her tail excitedly. That means she's happy. What does she see? Aha! There is Simon with his miniature pinscher Lui. The two dogs greet each other merrily and sniff each other all over. Their sense of smell is very developed and they hear especially well too.
Suddenly, loud barking can be heard from the meadow. A dog is chasing a little bird, pulling the boy in the red t-shirt behind him. Since all dogs are descended from wolves, most of them have a strong hunting instinct. The clever little bird flies high up into the treetops and disappears from sight.
Look! Who is that running across the meadow? It is a little puppy. Puppies are what we call young dogs. Puppies are still very frisky and want to explore everything. The little fellow must have discovered something exciting because he managed to escape his owner's grips and is running away. But not to worry, a moment later a man comes running up, breathing hard and collects the little rascal.
Lilly and I make our way back home, where she drinks and eats from her dog bowls. Then, tired and happy she snuggles down in her doggy bed. Like all dogs, Lilly is a loyal companion and a very good friend.

Illustration of a girl riding a small dog, both wearing colorful clothing (no text or symbols)Story 3 Look-closely story to re-enact: Tomcat Waldo's expedition
Required game materials:
game landscape and path, play figure cat, play figure parakeet, green puppy & pal figure (Wilma & Maurice), 3 tiles: bird cage, scratching post, kitty basket,
Game Setup:
First distribute the tiles onto their designated places. The scratching post is placed in front of the sofa (see the game landscape interior). The bird cage lies next to the book shelf (see the game landscape interior). Place the kitty basket in the center of the house. The play figure parakeet perches on top of a doghouse and the puppy & pal play figures Wilma & Maurice stand on the path in front of the doghouses.
The green words depict the stops on tomcat Waldo's expedition. The text in parentheses describes the plot and helps to orient your child when he isn't sure what to do.
The little tomcat Waldo wakes up on his scratching post with a gentle purr. (cat figure is placed on the scratching post tile in the house)
This is his favorite place to be. Waldo runs his tongue over his coat and cleans his little paws, too. He was outside the whole night hunting mice. That's really tiring work! But now he's had his rest and is curious to see what the day will bring. Waldo carefully climbs down from his scratching post and jumps over the easy chair and onto the kitchen table, to see if anyone has forgotten something edible on it. (move the cat figure to the places mentioned)
Unfortunately, he only finds a dried up breadcrumb. So Waldo continues his walk through the living room. He spends awhile in front of the aquarium, watching the colorful fish merrily swim about. (move cat figure to the aquarium)
There, he suddenly hears a bird chirping. Where could that be coming from? There! The window next to the wardrobe is open and Waldo can hear the birds singing in the garden. (move the cat figure to the open window next to the wardrobe)
Does Waldo feel like taking a short trip outside? After all, the sun is shining so warmly today! With one great leap Waldo is on the window sill and one more elegant jump brings him outside and at the front door. (place the cat figure next to the game landscape)

The yellow tile in front of the house is so nice and warm beneath Waldo's paws. Then, because it tickles so nicely, he runs through the grass. The tomcat pauses on the first grey stone, and takes a look around.
(move the cat figure from the yellow tiling to the first grey stone of the path)
Waldo moseys down the path, meeting other creatures along the way. He greets two snails and a hedgehog. Waldo also meets Maurice with his pet dog Wilma, who have just returned from a walk and are on their way to the doghouses.
(move the cat figure along the path towards the doghouses)
Listen, there it is again, that bird tweeting! And now Waldo sees a blue parakeet cheerfully twittering on top of a doghouse. But the little parakeet has already seen Waldo, too and flutters up in the air excitedly. Waldo gathers all his strength and jumps as high as he can, stretching out his paw to catch the little bird. But the parakeet has flown out of reach.
Poor Waldo, he only wants to play with the bird for a little while. With rapidly fluttering wings, the parakeet zooms through the open window and back to its bird cage in the house, next to the book shelf.
(place the parakeet by the bird cage in the house)
Waldo zips after the parakeet, jumping through the open window back into the house. The little tomcat looks up at the bird cage next to the book shelf. There are several parakeets in the cage since they love to live in groups. Of course, the bird cage is hung too high for Waldo to reach, so he looks around for something else to play with. Maybe there's something lying around on the carpet?
(move the cat figure through the house over the carpet)
Waldo gives a ball of yarn laying in front of his basket a little nudge with his nose.
Now this is a wonderful alternative to wild bird hunting in the garden! He plays with the yarn a little while, chasing it to wherever it rolls, before curling up in his basket for his midday catnap. He dreams of an exciting day in the garden with his many new friends.
(place the cat figure on the basket)
