Product description
- 8 MP night-vision camera for monitoring hunting spots, gardens, etc. Sends photos wirelessly by MMS or e-mail via GSM/GPRS at set times or when motion-triggered by wildlife or other movement.
- Still images and video can also be saved to SD card (max 32 GB, sold separately) for later transfer to a computer. Still images are saved in JPG format; video is saved in AVI format. File system: FAT32.
- Images are stamped with time, date and moon phase. Videos are saved with audio captured by the integrated microphone.
- Motion detector with sensitivity of up to 20 m.
- Powered by 8 × AA/LR6 batteries (sold separately) or a 6 V external power source (sold separately).
Things to consider:
- The use of surveillance cameras in public areas is regulated by the Data Protection Act 1998 and requires the permission of your local authority. The use of camera surveillance on private property is also regulated by the Data Protection Act. No permission is required from the local authority, but the people monitored must be informed that they are under surveillance. The Information Commissioner's Office has compiled a Code of Practice governing the use of CCTV cameras.
- For further information visit www.ico.gov.uk.
Note:
The camera lens has an IR filter which, when the camera is switched off, can end up in a position where it is shading the lens. When the camera is switched back on again, the filter will revert to its correct position.

Inserting batteries
- Lift the lid (1).
- Grasp the handle of the battery holder (18) and pull the holder out of the camera.
- Insert 8 (or 4) × AA/LR6 batteries into the battery compartment as shown in the figure. Note the polarity markings on the bottom of the battery holder to ensure correct insertion.
Note:
- The battery holder should be inserted as shown in the figure (it is possible to insert it upside down, but then the camera will not work).

natural_image
Technical line drawing of a mechanical device with ports and a pointed tip (no text or symbols)- The batteries should be replaced as soon as they start to become bad, the camera can be damaged by old batteries which leak. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries (such as non-rechargeable and rechargeable).
- The batteries can last for up to 6 months depending on the working temperature and the number of exposures.
- In an emergency the camera can run on 4 × AA/LR6 batteries placed in either the right or the left side of the battery compartment. If only four batteries have been used, they should be replaced with new batteries at the earliest opportunity.
- The camera can run on an external mains adaptor (sold separately) which provides 6 V DC and which has a centre-positive connector plug. The mains adaptor plugs into the 6 V input socket (19).
Important!
- In order for the camera to be able to take photos and store them, it needs to be fitted with an SD memory card. In order for the camera to be able to send video or photo (MMS) messages or e-mails, it needs to be fitted with an active GSM SIM card. The SIM card must be activated for mobile data/MMS and the PIN code must be deactivated.
- The camera only supports GSM (2G) and does not work with operators who only deal with 3G. In the UK therefore, the camera will not work with networks operated by Three. Most other operators providing 3G coverage also support 2G (GSM) coverage.
Settings
We recommend that you set up the camera using the program BMC Config.
-
Download the program from the manufacturer's homepage www.Bolyguard.com or www.clasohlson.co.uk and install it on your computer.
-
Run the program, the startpage will appear, select camera model MG882K-8MHD in the "Select product" field and then press [OK].
-
A new window will appear. Select country and operator in the WAP/Internet Setting box. If your operator is not on the list, select Others... and fill in the settings (see point 5 below). If unsure, contact your operator for current details.

- Press the [ Check WAP/Parameters (L) ] button. The “WAP/Internet Parameters” window will appear. The camera can send photos either via MMS to a telephone or e-mail inbox, or as an e-mail via GPRS. The difference is that MMS only requires MMS settings whilst GPRS requires an e-mail account in order for the photos to be sent. The advantage of GPRS is that it has a higher priority on the mobile network, so the messages are less likely to be delayed than MMS messages. Moreover, GPRS can be cheaper from certain operators as they charge for the amount of transferred data instead of the number of MMS messages.

- In the box on the left, WAP Setting, your MMS settings are displayed and they are specified automatically if you have selected one of the operators on the list. This is where you should fill in your own information if you have selected Others... as an operator. These MMS settings are required in order for the camera to be able to send MMS messages to mobile phones or e-mail accounts.

- The box on the right, Internet Setting, is for your GPRS settings. The GPRS settings are required in order for the camera to be able to send e-mails to e-mail accounts.
We recommend that you create a new e-mail account exclusively for the camera. Enter the name of the SMPT server for your Internet service provider (SEND EMAIL SERVER), port, e-mail address from which the camera is to send from (SEND EMAIL ADDRESS) and the password of the e-mail account (SEND EMAIL PASSWORD). Contact you operator if you are unsure of the e-mail settings.
This is an example of the settings for using Gmail:
Do not forget to press the [ Advanced ] button (the box below will appear) and tick the box for SSL if your operator requires this. Press [ OK (Y) ] to save.

- Press [OK(Y)] to save WAP/Internet Parameters.

If you select Email [MMS] or Email [GPRS], the photo will be sent to the e-mail address which is entered in accordance with point 10 below.
- Send mode: Select whether, or how often, the photos are to be sent. There are 4 choices available:
- Manual: A photo is only sent upon request via SMS or app.

The maximum number of photos that can be sent during a 24 hour period can be limited.
- Off: No photos are sent.
-
When you have made all the settings, press [OK] to save.
-
Enter the telephone numbers or e-mail addresses to which you want the camera to send the photos in the Customer Information Setting box in the window which appears under point 3 above. If you are using the BGTools app, the number of the telephone which is to be used to control the camera with should be entered in the Admin... Number field.
-
If you have not already connected the camera to your computer with the provided USB cable, do it now.
- Select the camera in the field for where your settings are to be saved.

- Press [ SAVE (Y) ] to save the settings.
- Disconnect the camera from your computer.
- In order for the camera to be able to adopt the new settings the function switch must be set to "TEST" and the camera allowed to start up and process the settings, this will take approximately 30 seconds. The function switch should then be set to ON and the camera will work in accordance with the new settings.
- We recommend that you test the camera close to home to ensure that everything works as it should before placing it out in the field.
Things to consider:
- E-mail operators might have different security settings and levels. In some cases you might have to change your security settings in order that another device (the camera) can log on to your account.
- Note: It can be difficult to see the security levels of the various operators. If you can't get you e-mail to work despite following the steps in the example below, we recommend that you only use the MMS function of the camera to ensure that the photos are delivered.
This is what it looks like when you use Gmail. Here, Gmail has prevented the camera from logging on to the account:
Example:

To access the settings, first log on to your Gmail account and then click on Account-Personal settings-Security-Account permissions-Access for less secure apps-Settings.

Then select Enable, to permit less secure apps.

Operating instructions
Things to consider before turning the camera on:
Placement
- The camera can be mounted with the included strap or by using a stand or other bracket that fits the tripod adaptor (21) or (22) on the back of the camera. Make sure that the camera sits securely so that it is not affected by wind or other external factors.
- Remember to position the camera where it will receive the best possible protection from the elements.
- A suitable distance to the subject is approximately 5 m; secure the camera approximately 1.5 to 2 m above the ground.
- Set the function selector to TEST mode and press [ *] to turn on the laser pointer and use it as a visual aid to aim the camera.
For best results
- The camera is affected by temperature. The capacity and range of the PIR sensor is affected by the ambient temperature relative to the animal's body heat. The greater the difference, the easier it is for the camera to detect movement over a longer distance.
- The camera takes colour images in daylight and black and white ones in darkness.
- Bear in mind where the sun rises/sets, and position the camera with the sun behind it. This will prevent direct light spoiling your photos. If possible, position the camera in a northerly direction to prevent direct light spoiling your photos and false indications from the PIR sensor.
- Remove any twigs in front of the camera; twigs with leaves on them can cause false indications.
Taking a photo/video sequence manually to test the camera Note:
- This function is an additional aid when positioning the camera. Take a photo or a video sequence manually so that you can see the catchment area before the camera is positioned permanently.
