Frequently Asked Questions - Spesso Eta

How do I attach the immersion mixer to the drive unit?
Slide the immersion mixer (B) onto the drive unit (A) and push gently until it snaps into place. To remove, press the blocking button (A3) and pull off.
Can I blend hot liquids with this stick mixer?
Yes, but be careful when processing hot liquids (e.g., soup) as they may spurt out due to sudden boiling. Do not process food above 80°C. Pour hot liquid slowly and ensure the container is not overfilled.
What is the maximum continuous operating time?
For the immersion mixer and chopping attachments, the maximum continuous time is 1 minute. For the beater, it is 2 minutes. After each use, allow the drive unit to cool down for 10–15 minutes before next use.
Can I crush ice cubes with this blender?
No, the sickle-shaped knives are not designed for very hard ingredients like ice cubes, coffee beans, or nutmeg. Such materials will dull the blades quickly.
How do I clean the immersion blender shaft?
Wash the shaft (the end with the blade) carefully under running water with a little detergent, but do not immerse the entire mixer or the top part of the shaft in water. The drive unit must never be submerged. Use a soft cloth or sponge to clean it.
What accessories are included with the Eta Spesso blender?
It depends on the model. All models include the drive unit, immersion mixer, and a mixing container. Some models also include a beater, chopping containers (500 ml, 1250 ml, or 300 ml express), a potato masher attachment, and a wall holder. Check the accessory table in the manual for your specific model.
Is the chopping container safe to use in a microwave?
Yes, the mixing container (D) and chopping containers (E) are suitable for microwave use. However, remove the lid and knife before microwaving.
How do I use the potato masher attachment?
Attach the masher (G) to the gear (G3) and then to the drive unit. Cook potatoes until tender, then push the blender down onto the potatoes. The mashed potato is extruded through the side walls. Process for about 20 seconds for 1 kg of potatoes.
What should I do if the appliance does not start?
Check that the drive unit is properly attached to the accessory and that the container lid is locked securely. The safety switch requires proper assembly. Also ensure the power cord is connected and the socket is live. If it still doesn't work, contact service.
Can I use the beater for thick dough?
No, the beater is only for light mixtures such as egg whites, cream, or thin sponge cake dough. Do not use it for tough dough, as it may damage the gear.

III. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Remove all the packing material and take out the drive unit and the accessories. Remove all possible adhesion foils, stick-on labels or paper from the appliance. Before the first use, wash the parts that will be in contact with food in hot water with a detergent, rinse them thoroughly with clean water and wipe till dry, or let them dry.

Holder (F)

The holder is intended for space –saving storage of the appliance (Fig. 7). Mount the holder on the wall using the supplied dowels and screws. Make sure that there is no electric, telephone, plumbing fitting under the plaster at the place of mounting the holder.

Safety switch (A1), (Fig. 2)

Button I – low speed Button II – maximum speed

By pushing and holding the button you will start the appliance and by releasing the button you will switch off the appliance.

Speed regulator (A2), (Fig. 2)

By turning the regulator from 1 to 5 you can continuously change the speed of the motor revolutions.

You can regulate the revolutions only when you choose speed I. Please consider the following tips for preparing food as examples and inspiration, the purpose of which is not to provide instructions, but to show various possibilities of preparing food. The times of food processing are only approximate and they range from seconds to minutes. Choose the amount of the processed food so that the maximum volume of the containers marked with the gauge line is not exceeded. Bigger amount of processed food has to be divided into several doses and the volume of the containers has to be checked regularly. Any time you work with the appliance, do not forget to put the anti-slip base D/E/H under the mixing and chopping container D1/E4/H5 (fig. 6). We recommend stopping work from time to time, switching off the appliance and removing possible food that was stuck onto the mixing/chopping adapter B/C/G, the sickle-shaped knife E2/H2, the containers D/E/H or the lid E3/H3 (see par. I. SAFETY WARNING). After finishing work, disconnect the appliance from power supply by taking the connector of the power cord A4 out of the electric socket. Containers D/E are suitable for use in a microwave oven.

Immersion mixer (B)

The mixer is intended for mixing and blending juices, milk shakes, milk, sauces, soups, mayonnaise, children's and dietary food, for making purée, etc. Be careful, knife edges are very sharp! You can use speed I or II for processing.

The maximum time of processing is 1 minute. Then wait for 10 – 15 minutes, which is necessary for the drive unit to cool down.

Insertion and removal

Slide the immersion mixer onto the drive unit A and secure it by slight pushing till the blocking snaps in (Fig. 3).

For removing the mixer, push the blocking button A3 and remove the adapter.

Hold the stick mixer A with your hand and put the immersion mixer B into the container D or into another suitable container filled with food. By pushing the required button of the switch A1 you will start the drive unit. When working, move the mixer in the container to process the food thoroughly. After finishing work, switch off the drive unit, remove the mixer from the container and clean it.

Recommendation

  • It is recommended to cut tough ingredients into small pieces. Do not process very hard materials (e.g. ice cubes, etc.). The knife would be blunt soon.
  • Hard ingredients (e.g. legumes, soya beans, etc.) should be soaked in water before processing.
  • The longer you process the food with the mixer, the smoother the result will be.
  • In the case of liquids that create foam (e.g. milk), never fill in the container D up to the gauge mark „MAX“ to prevent overflowing.
  • If you are not satisfied with the result, switch off the appliance, mix the ingredients with spatula, take some part of the ingredients or add a little liquid.

Amount of food and processing time

FoodMaximum amountTime
Children's food, soups, sauces100 – 800 ml60 s
Shakes and cocktails100 – 800 ml60 s
Food and vegetables100 – 500 g30 s
Dough100 – 800 ml60 s

Beater (C, C1)

The beater is intended for whisking eggs, egg whites, whipping cream, foam, dessert creams, instant puddings, thin sponge cake dough, mayonnaise and similar food. Do not use the beater for whisking tough dough!

You can use speed I or II for processing. The maximum time of processing is 2 minutes. Then wait for 10 - 15 minutes, which is necessary for the drive unit to cool down.

Insertion and removal

Insert the shaft of the beater C into the gear C1, then slide the gear on the drive unit A and secure it by slight pushing till the blocking snaps in (Fig. 4).

For removing the beater, push the blocking button A3 and remove the beater.

Hold the stick mixer A with your hand and put the beater C into the container D or into another suitable container filled with food.

By pushing the required button of the switch A1 you will start the drive unit. When working, move the beater in the container to process the food thoroughly.

After finishing work, switch off the drive unit, remove the beater from the container and clean it.

Recommendation

  • When beating egg whites, use eggs at room temperature. If beating is not optimal, make sure that the beater is not greasy, or add a little lemon juice or salt.
  • Before beating egg whites (minimum 2 eggs) make sure that the adapter and the container are dry and without oil residues. Egg whites should have the room temperature.
    – Cool cream and whipping cream to at least 6 °C.

Amount of food and processing time

FoodMaximum amountTime

Sickle - shaped knife (E2) and chopping containers (Ea, Eb)

The knife is intended for chopping, mixing, blending all kinds of tough food (e.g. fruit, vegetables, nuts, almonds, meat without bones, tendons and skin) or for preparing purée.

Do not use the knife for processing any dough! Be careful, knife edges are very sharp!

Use speed II for processing.

The maximum time of processing is 1 minute. Then wait for 10 – 15 minutes, which is necessary for the drive unit to cool down.

Hold knife E2 on the upper plastic part, remove a possible protective lid and slide the knife to the central shaft E1 inside the container E (Fig. 5). Put food into the container. Put the lid E3 on the container so that the lugs on its edge snap into the moulded holes in the container and secure the lid by clockwise movement. Insert the drive unit A onto the lid E3 so that it is blocked in the lid. By pushing the button of the switch A1 you will start the drive unit. After you have finished, switch off the drive unit. To remove the drive, push the blocking button A3 and remove the drive unit. Remove the lid E3 by opposite movement, remove the knife and clean it.

Recommendation

  • Before processing, cut bigger pieces of food into cubes of about 3 x 3 x 3 cm.
  • Never crush very hard ingredients with the sickle-shaped knife, such as coffee beans, nutmeg, ice cubes, etc.! The knife would be blunt soon.
  • Hard ingredients (e.g. legumes, soya beans, etc.) should be soaked in water before processing.
  • The longer you process the food, the smoother the result will be.
  • If you chop hard cheese or chocolate, work for a short time. It is because the ingredients are heated excessively by chopping, they become softer and they can become lumpy.

Base/lid (D1)

You can use the base/lid either as an anti-slip base, or it you slide it on the bottom of the container D or you can use it as a lid of the container, if you store food (e.g. in a fridge), fig. 6.

Mounting and removal of the attachment for mashing potatoes and vegetable puree Slide mixing adapter G to gear G3, then fix it by turning it (Fig. 3). Remove the adapter in the opposite direction.

Simply push the blender down onto the food. The blended food will be pressed through the side walls of the blending head. Repeat the process on multiple places of the utensil, making sure you do not miss any. If you are sure that all food has been blended, the food is ready. Leave the blender running after taking it out of the food, in order that the food residues fall off the attachment.

About mashing Potatoes

Mashed potato is a crushed mixture of cooked potato with added milk, cream, butter, and herbs to taste. Importantly, the potato needs to be crushed so that the starch grains remain relatively intact. If the starch grains are ruptured by either over-cooking or aggressive blending, they release amilose which imparts an unacceptable ,glue' like texture. The masha uses an extrusion process rather than a cutting or blending action so that the starch grains remain intact.

Cooking is important

Peel and cut the required amount of potato into approx. 2.5cm cubes. Race in cool water, and heat to boiling. Boil gently until the pieces offer little resistance to a knife. This takes 15-20 minutes. Cutting the potatoes into smaller pieces, and heating the water from cold, allows the potatoes to cook thorough evenly. Larger pieces placed in hot water tend to be overcooked on the outside by the time the inside is cooked. Overcooking the outside breaks down the starch grains, releasing amilose which results in a glue like consistency when mashed.

Recipe

Cook 1 kg of potatoes following the instructions above. Add desired quantity of milk, cream, butter, and seasoning, then process for approximately 20 seconds to a smooth, consistent mash. Depending on the type of potatoes and the desired consistency you may choose to add the milk, cream and butter at various stages of mashing.

Other Ingredients

The mixer can also be used with a variety of other vegetables, such as pumpkin, sweet potato, parsnips or carrots. Simply cook and then mash to a perfectly smooth consistency. Mixed vegetable combinations are now easy to prepare and great for the kids.

Chopping container express (H)

Be careful, the blades of the knife are very sharp! Do not use the knife for processing washy pastes! It is intended for chopping (mincing) all kinds of tough food (e.g. fruit, vegetables, nuts, almonds, hard cheese, boiled eggs or for preparing purée). Seize the knife H2 for its upper plastic part and insert to central shaft H1 inside the vessel H (Fig. 5). Give the foodstuffs in the vessel. Put the cover H3 with seal upon the vessel. Insert the driving unit to the cover H4 so that it locked in the cover. The amount of foodstuffs and orientation times for processing are given in the Table. After having finished the work, remove the knife in the opposite way.

You can use speed I for processing. The maximum time of processing is 1 minute. Then wait for 10 – 15 minutes, which is necessary for the drive unit to cool down.

Recommendation

Cut the big pieces of foodstuffs into cubes of dimension at about 2 x 2 x 2 cm. When processing hard cheese, work only for a short time. During long work the cheese could become warm and get lumped. Never use the sickle-shaped knife to cut materials like cinnamon or ice cubes! The knife would unnecessarily get blunt soon. If it is necessary, stop the work, switch off the appliance and remove the foodstuffs, which stuck on the knife or on the walls of the vessel (see the section I. SECURITY ADVICE). The longer you process food in the chopper, the smoother the result will be.

Here are some examples of processing, which can serve as an inspiration. Their goal is not to give instructions but to show various possibilities to process the foodstuffs. Times of processing are given in seconds. 1 pulse = 2 seconds.

IV. MAINTENANCE (Fig. 9)

Unplug the appliance from power supply by taking the connector of the power cord out of the socket before every maintenance! Do not use rough and aggressive detergents! Clean the drive unit A, the gear C1 and the lid E3, H3 with a soft and wet cloth with a little detergent on it. Make sure that water does not get inside the appliance. Wash the other accessories right after use in hot water with a little detergent added, rinse it with clean water and wipe it till dry (you can also use a dishwasher – but not for the mixer B, G). The end piece with the shaft of the mixer B, G must not be immersed during cleaning (Fig. 8). Be very careful when cleaning the mixer B, G and the sickle – shaped knife E2, H2, the knives are very sharp. Make sure that the cutting edges of the knives are not in contact with hard objects that make them blunt and thus they reduce their effectiveness.

If you remove the sealing H3 from the cover H6, while washing, put the sealing back in the opposite way, as soon as it is washed and dried. If sealing is worn out or damaged, replace it with a new one (of a similar type). Some food can colour the accessories in some way. But this does not affect the function of the appliance and it is not a reason for a claim. This colouring usually disappears in some time. Never dry plastic moldings over a heat source (e.g. heater, stove, radiator). Take care that the binding surfaces and the sealing elements are functional. Store the appliance after cleaning at a dry, dustfree and safe place, out of reach of children and incapacitated people.
