5. Installation
5.1. General installation information

During the entire process of installation, the device must not be connected to the electrical mains.

The pump and the entire connection system have to be protected from frost.
Please also note the illustrations which are located in the text and also as an annex at the end of these operating instructions. The figures, which are shown in brackets in the statements below, refer to the figure at the end of the operating instructions.
All connection lines have to be perfectly tight since leaking lines may affect the performance of the pump and cause considerable damage. If required, please use a suitable sealant to make the installation airtight.
Avoid excessive force when tightening the screwed connections, which can lead to damage. When laying the connection pipes, you should make sure that the pump is not exposed to any form of weight, vibration or tension.
Moreover, the connection lines must not contain any kinks or an adverse slope.
5.2. Installation of the pressure line
The pressure line conveys the liquids to be discharged from the pump to the point of withdrawal. To avoid dynamic flow losses, one should use a pressure line having at least the same diameter as the pressure port (3) of the pump.
The pressure line to be used for this application should be a suitable flexible hose.
Rigid pipes have proven to be the ideal pressure line for use in a permanent installation.
The pump is equipped with an integrated check valve (non-return valve). It will prevent liquid from flowing back from the pressure line into the pump after the pump is shut down and protect the unit from being damaged by pressure peaks.
Screw the connector (10) onto the pump as the top as shown in the illustration below.
The pressure line is to be installed to the pressure port (3) of the pump.

natural_image
Close-up of a mechanical component with a threaded inlet and blue cable (no visible text or symbols)5.3. Use as a submersible pump

To lower or raise the pump, please use a suitable lowering rope, but never the pressure hose or the connection cable.
To lower the pump down into or lift it out of the liquid, one has to use a lowering rope suitable for this purpose. Please use a rope made of stainless steel or synthetic materials such as nylon. Considering the risk of breaking involved, ropes which tend to the formation of rust, weathering, mouldering etc must not be used. The rope does not only have to bear the weight of the pump plus that of the water-filled pressure line and the connection cable, it also has to resist to the strain occurring in operation.
The standard equipment of this model includes a high-grade lowering rope.
The lowering rope, the connection cable (1) and the pressure line have to be tied together at distance intervals of about 2 m using a suitable adhesive tape or cable ties to keep them from getting entangled while the pump is raised or lowered.
Carefully lower the pump with the lowering rope down into liquid to be discharged. Make sure that the unit will not bump or rub against the circumference of the cavity.
The unit must be fully immersed in the liquid.
The minimum distance from the ground should be 1 m to prevent sludge, sand, stones etc from being sucked in. You can also use the suction float.
In order to be sure of this positioning it is advisable to set the pump down on the bottom of the well shaft and to mark this submersion depth on the tensioned cord. Make a second marking 1 m below this (i.e. towards the pump). Now draw the pump upwards 1 m and fasten the device in place at this position whilst observing the second marking. Please note that the maximum submersion depth of the pump in liquid is 12 m.
5.4. Use as a surface pump
Every time the pump is put into operation, great care must be taken to ensure that it is placed in a safe and stable position. The unit must always be placed on level ground and in a lying position.
Visually inspect the pump before each use. This applies in particular to the mains connection cable and the mains plug. Make sure that all screw fitting are tight and that all connections are in flawless condition. Do not use damaged pumps. Damaged pumps must be checked by the specialist service department.
5.5. Installing the suction line

The inlet of the suction line must be equipped with a suction filter to keep out coarse dirt particles in the water that could clog or damage the pump.
The suction line conveys the liquid to be pumped to the pump. Use a flexible suction hose suitable for this with the same diameter as the suction connection (6) of the pump. To do this, open the flap on the bottom of the pump using the locking screw. Place the enclosed seal in the connection piece (9) provided for the suction line and screw it onto the opening inside. Now you can shorten the connection piece (9) as you like - but make sure that the screw aid is not cut away with it.

The inlet of the suction line must be equipped with a suction filter or suction strainer to keep away coarse dirt particles in the water that could clog or damage the pump. It is also highly recommended to install a non-return valve at the inlet of the suction line, which prevents the pressure from escaping after the pump has been switched off.
A suction set incl. ball float (art. no. 31017) is highly recommended; this float, with its buoyancy, ensures that the inlet of the suction line has sufficient distance to the bottom to prevent stones, plants, leaves etc. from being sucked in.
5.6. Mounting the pump on the carrier system
For some uses - for example, to draw water from streams or shallow waters - it is advisable to install the pump horizontally so that the discharge connection (3) is horizontal (inclined at 10°). For this reason, a specially developed carrier system (8) is included in the scope of delivery of this model. It is essential to fit the pump onto this carrier system for this type of use and installation because it ensures the necessary stability and function (bleeding). For this reason, mount it as shown below. Horizontal installation may only be carried out after fitting the pump to this carrier system.

natural_image
Exterior view of a metallic cylindrical scientific instrument mounted on a stand (no visible text or symbols)5.7. Filling the pump and the suction line
When the pump is put into operation for the first time, the pump housing must be completely bled. To do this, the pump housing must be completely filled with water via the filling/bleed screw as shown in the instructions below.
- It is essential to use a suction line that includes a non-return valve and to bleed it - i.e. to fill it with water. After this procedure, connect the suction line to the suction connection of the pump.
- Open the filling/bleed screw by turning it anti-clockwise. Now fill the pump, mounted on the carrier provided, with water until it is completely full.
- Close the filling/bleed screw by turning it clockwise.
- It may be necessary to carry out this procedure (filling the pump housing) several times. Check that there is no leakage.
6. Electrical connection
The unit is equipped with a mains connection cable and a mains plug. It must only be replaced by qualified staff to avoid any danger. Please do not use the mains connection cable to carry the pump, and do not use this cable to pull off the plug from the socket, either. Protect the mains connection cable and mains plug from heat, oil or sharp edges.

The values stated in the technical details have to correspond to the mains voltage. The person responsible for the installation has to make sure that the electrical connection is earthed in compliance with the applicable standards.

The electrical connection has to be equipped with a highly sensitive residual current circuit-breaker (FI switch): = 30 mA (DIN VDE 0100-739).

If extension cables are used, their cross-section must not be smaller than that of rubber-sheathed cables of the H07RN-F (3 x 1,0 mm²) short code. The mains socket and the plug-and-socket elements have to be in splash water-proof design.
7. Putting into operation

Nobody must be in the water while the pump is running.

The pump must only be operated in the performance range indicated on the type plate.

Dry-running - i.e. operating the pump without discharging water - is to be avoided since the absence of water may cause the pump to run hot. This may cause considerable damage on the device. In addition, there is very hot water in the system, so there is a risk of scalding. If the pump is running hot, unplug it from the mains and let the system cool down.

Please make sure that the electrical plug connections are in the flood-proof area.

As long as the device is connected to the electrical mains, one must never reach with one's hands into the opening of the pump.

The pump must not run while the pressure port or the pressure line are closed.
Please inspect the pump visually prior to each use. This applies in particular to the mains connection line and the mains plug. Make sure that all screws are firmly tightened, and verify the perfect condition of all connections. A
damaged pump must not be used. In any case of damage, the pump has to be inspected by qualified service staff.
If present, open a shut-off device within the pressure line, for instance a water tap. Insert the mains plug into a 230V AC socket. The pump will start to run immediately. For the first operation: The anti dry running protection will delay the start by approximately 10 seconds. Shortly, the pump will start to discharge water.
For stopping the operation close the end device (e.g. the water tap). The pump will stop operation as soon as the maximum pressure is reached. If the end device is opened and the pressure inside the system falls under 1.6 bar, the pump starts operation again.
To stop the operation of the pump, please pull the mains plug off the socket.
Dry-running - i.e. the operation of the pump without discharging water - has to be avoided in any case since the absence of water will make the pump run hot. This will cause considerable damage to the unit. The most common causes of dry running include blocked suction openings and lack of pumped liquid in the pump housing (especially in surface operation). In this context, please note that the water level may vary as a result of the withdrawal of water, weathering influences, seasonal changes or other reasons. For this reason it is recommended to install an automatic water level indicator.
The electrical pumps of the T.I.P. SubGarden series are equipped with an integrated thermal motor protection feature. In the case of overload, the motor will switch off independently and on again after cooling down. For possible causes and their elimination, please refer to the "Maintenance and troubleshooting" section.
8. Automatic operation / anti dry running protection
The integrated electronic system enables an automatic operation of the pump in order to use the pumped water as if it would come out of tap water system. The pump can be switch on or off by closing the water tap or other end devices.
As soon as the power cord plug is connected, the pump starts with a delay of 10 seconds and discharges water. After closing the end devices and building up the maximum pressure in the system, the pump stops operation.
The pump will automatically be switched on, if the end devices are opened and pressure in the system falls below 1.6 bar.
In contrast to pumps that are equipped with pressure vessels such as, for instance, domestic booster systems, the automatic cut-out of the pump will not occur upon the reaching of a specific cut-out pressure, but rather by the reduction of the flow rate down to minimum value as a result of the closing of consumers. Inside the water system will be the maximum pressure the pump can build up (approx. 4.3 bar). In this process, the electronic pump control will delay cutting-out by 30 seconds. This method will decrease the cut-in/cut-out frequency of the pump at low flow rates and thus contribute to a sparing operation of the unit. This feature is also activated in the case of the pumps dry-running and thus protects the device efficiently from damage which may be caused by operation in the absence of water.
In case of water shortage the pump tries to discharge water for approximately 30 seconds and then stops for 10 seconds. Then the pump tries to start again and will repeat this start cycle in total 3 times. After a break of 30 minutes, the pump will try again 4 start cycles. If it is still not possible by that time to discharge water, because e.g. the intake openings is clogged or the water level is too low, the pump will indicate an error (error modus) and cannot be started without help from the user. Make sure you remove the reason for dry running and the water level is sufficient for operating the pump. In order to restart the pump, you must rest the pump by unplugging the power cord for approximately 10 seconds. The pump will start operation by connecting the power cord again to the electric power supply.
9. Maintenance and troubleshooting

Prior to carrying out any maintenance work, the pump must be separated from the electrical mains. If you fail to separate the unit from mains, there is a risk of an inadvertent start of the pump.

We decline any liability for damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts. Any damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts will avoid all warranty claims.
Observing the conditions of use and the ranges of application of the present device will reduce the risk of possible operational malfunction and contribute to extend the lifetime of your unit. Sand and other abrasive matters contained in the liquid discharged will speed up the process of wearing and tearing and accelerate the drop in performance.
If the unit is operated properly, it will not require any maintenance.
If the water pumped is not sufficiently clean, it may be necessary to clean the intake filter (5) with a steel brush in order to remove the dirt that has accumulated on the outer surface. To do this the pump must be disconnected from the electrical power supply and taken out of the water.
Water left in the pump may freeze in case of frost and thus cause considerable damage. Therefore, the pump must be removed from the liquid being discharged and fully drained when temperatures are below the freezing point of the liquid. Please store the pump in a dry, frost-protected place.
In the case of malfunction, you should first of all check whether it was caused by an operating error or some other reason which cannot be attributed to a defect of the device - for instance a power failure.
The list below shows some possible malfunctions of the device, possible causes and tips on their elimination. All the measures referred to may only be carried out with the pump being separated from the electrical mains. If you yourself feel unable to eliminate any of these malfunctions, please contact the customer service department or your point of sales. Any repair beyond the scope specified below must only be performed by qualified staff. Please bear in mind that all warranty claims will become void in the case of damage caused by inappropriate repair attempts, and that we decline any liability for any ensuing damage.
