GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS - 1

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be grounded. In the event of malfunction or breakdown, grounding will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment- grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

WARNING Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electrical shock. Check with a qualified electrician, or service representative or personnel, if you are in doubt as to whether the appliance is properly grounded. DO NOT modify the plug on the power supply cord. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

WARNING

TIP-OVER HAZARD

Do not push down on an open door.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury or cuts.

WARNING

WHEN USING YOUR DISHWASHER, FOLLOW BASIC PRECAUTIONS, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING:

Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this Owner's Manual.
Use only detergents or wetting agents recommended for use in a dishwasher and keep them out of reach of children. Using a detergent that is not specifically designed for dishwashers will cause the dishwasher to fill with suds.
If a dishwasher cleaner is used, we strongly recommend a wash program with detergent should be run immediately afterward, to prevent any damage to the dishwasher.
- Locate sharp items so that they are not likely to damage the door seal.
- Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries.
- Do not wash plastic items unless marked dishwasher safe or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked, check the manufacturer's recommendations.

  • Do not operate your dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are properly in place.
    Do not tamper with controls.
  • Do not touch the filter plate (the metal disc in the dishwasher base) during or immediately after use, as it may be hot from the heater plate underneath.
  • Do not abuse, lean on, sit on or stand on the door or dish rack of the dishwasher.
  • Do not place objects on top of compact dishwasher.
Do not sit or stand on top of compact dishwasher.
To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children to play with, on or inside this appliance at any time.
  • Small parts can be a choke hazard to small children if removed from the dishwasher. Keep out of reach of small children.
  • Do not store or use combustible materials including gasoline or other flammable liquids or vapors in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE

WARNING WATER HEATER SAFETY

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater that has not been used for two or more weeks. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE.

If the hot water has not been used for two or more weeks, prevent the possibility of damage or injury by turning on all hot water faucets and allowing them to run for several minutes. Do this before using any electrical appliance connected to the hot water system. This simple procedure will allow any built-up hydrogen gas to escape. Since the gas is flammable, do not smoke, use an open flame, or use the appliance during this process.

WARNING RISK OF CHILD ENTRAPMENT

PROPER DISPOSAL OF THE DISHWASHER

Junked or abandoned dishwashers are dangerous...even if they will sit for "just a few days." If you are getting rid of your dishwasher, please follow the instructions below to help prevent accidents.

Do not allow children to play with, on, or inside this or any discarded appliance.
Take off the door of the washing compartment.

CAUTION TO PREVENT MINOR INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE

During or after wash cycle, contents may be hot to the touch. Use care before handling.
- Close supervision is necessary if this appliance is used by or near children. Do not allow children to play around the dishwasher when closing the door due to the possibility of small fingers being pinched.

Non-Dishware Items: Do not wash items such as electronic air cleaner filters, furnace filters and paint brushes in your dishwasher. Damage to the dishwasher and discoloration or staining of the dishwasher may result.

NOTICE

If your dishwasher is connected to a wall switch, ensure that the switch is on prior to use.
If you choose to turn the wall switch off between wash cycles, allow 5-10 seconds after turning the switch on before touching START to allow the control to initialize.

  • Do not use liquid or gel detergent.
Use only powder, CascadePlatinumTM ActionPacsTM or Finish Quantum Automatic Dishwashing Detergent recommended for use in a dishwasher and keep them out of the reach of children. Cascade PlatinumTM ActionPacsTM or Finish Quantum Automatic Dishwashing Detergents have been approved for use in all GE Appliances dishwashers.

Proper Disposal of your Appliance

  • Dispos of or recycle your discarded appliance in accordance with Federal and Local Regulations. Contact your local authorities for the environmentally safe disposal or recycling of your discarded appliance.
Consider recycling options for your appliance packaging material.

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and
  2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.

If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
  • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
  • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
  • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for help.

Labelling: Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

Check the Water Temperature

The entering water should be at least 120^ (49^) and not more than 150^ (66^) for the most effective cleaning performance and to prevent dish damage.

Turn on the hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher, place the thermometer in a glass and let the water run continuously into the glass until the temperature stops rising.

Detergent Cup

The detergent cup is located in the center bottom of the dishwasher inner door.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Detergent Cup - 1

NOTE: Do not block detergent cup with large or tall dishware.

IMPORTANT! Do not use liquid or gel detergent.

You may use tablet, packet or powder automatic dishwasher detergent. Make sure you use only detergents specifically labeled for use in automatic dishwashers. Never use liquid hand dish detergent in an automatic dishwasher. Sudsing and poor wash performance will result with the use of improper detergents.

Detergents should be stored in a dry location and in their original container to prevent loss of effectiveness. Place detergent in the cup just prior to starting the dishwasher.

Filling the Detergent Cup

GE Appliances recommends using high quality detergent in tablet or packet form. Independent testing has shown this form of detergent is very effective in the dishwasher. Cascade® Platinum™ ActionPacs™ or Finish® Quantum® Powerball® are examples of this type of detergent. However, some single dose detergents are not designed for shorter cycles. If you experience wash-out issues with these tablets or packets, follow the instructions below:

Rinse cycle - DO NOT use detergent. (This cycle is designed for rinsing dishes only, not soil removal.)

Washing cycles less than 60 minutes (not including additional dry or wash options) - Place a tablet or packet directly into the bottom of the dishwasher. (These cycles are designed to be shorter which could result in bad detergent wash-out if the detergent is placed in the detergent cup. Wash performance will be diminished as a result.)

Washing cycles 60 minutes or longer (not including additional dry or wash options) - Put a tablet or packet into the detergent cup. These cycles are designed for tougher soils and will likely have more fills/drains than the shorter cycles.

If you choose to use detergent in powder form, the amount of detergent you use will be determined by the hardness of your water, the temperature of your water, and the food soil load inside the dishwasher. Contact your water company to get information about the hardness of the water in your area. Water hardness is measured in grains per gallon. Use this information and the table below to determine the amount of detergent to use. You may purchase a hard water test strip from GE Appliances. Visit Bodewell.com/parts-search or call 833-4BODEWELL (833-426-3393) and ask for part number WD01X10295. In Canada, call 800-661-1616.

Number of Grains/Gal.Detergent Cup(s) to Fill
Less than 4 Fill cupcup to 1/3 full
4 to 8 Fill cupto 2/3 full
Greater than 8 Filcup completely full

Use the table as a starting point and then adjust the amount of detergent you use. Use just enough to get good wash performance. Using just the right amount of detergent will provide great wash performance without wasting detergent or etching glassware.

Using too much detergent with very soft and/or very hot water may cause a condition called etching on your glassware. Etching is a permanent cloudiness in your glassware. This condition is irreversible. However, using too little detergent will cause poor wash performance.

DO NOT USE HAND DISH DETERGENT

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - DO NOT USE HAND DISH DETERGENT - 1

NOTE: Using a detergent that is not specifically designed for dishwashers will cause the dishwasher to fill with suds. During operation, these suds will spill out of the dishwasher vents, covering countertops and making the floor wet.

Because so many detergent containers look alike, store the dishwasher detergent in a separate space from all other cleaners. Show anyone who may use the dishwasher the correct detergent and where it is stored.

While there will be no lasting damage to the dishwasher, your dishes will not get clean using a dishwashing detergent that is not formulated for automatic dishwashers.

Loading

For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. Features and appearance of racks and silverware baskets may vary from your model.

Rack

When loading the rack, do not load large platters or trays in the front left. They may prevent detergent from circulating during the wash cycle.

Place Settings

This dishwasher is rated for a maximum of six place settings.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Place Settings - 1
NOTE: This loading configuration was utilized to determine annual energy usage for the dishwasher.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Place Settings - 2

IMPORTANT: Ensure that items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or the silverware basket where they will block the rotation of the spray arm. This could result in noise during operation and/or poor wash performance.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Place Settings - 3
NOTE: For best performance, do not force glasses or other items into the corners. Items should fit freely without interfering with the sides of the rack or the tines.

Loading

Silverware Basket

The silverware basket may be used without the topper for quick loading. With the topper, flatware is better positioned for the dishwasher to thoroughly wash and dry all pieces by preventing nesting.

Without the topper

Put the flatware in the removable basket with fork and knife handles up to protect your hands. Place spoons in the basket with handles down. Mix knives, forks and spoons so they don't nest together. Distribute evenly. Small plastic items, such as measuring spoons and lids from small containers, should go in the bottom of the silverware basket with silverware on top.

With the topper

Place small plastic items, such as measuring spoons and lids from small containers, in the bottom of the basket and snap the topper in place. Insert spoons and forks, handles first, through the holes in the topper. Place knives, blades first, through the holes in the topper.

IMPORTANT: Do not load large or tall utensils where they may block the detergent cup. This could result in poor wash performance.

Unicouple connection - Optional

Connect Unicouple Water Supply Hose and Drain Hose to Dishwasher

Unplug electrical cord before installing hoses.

Water Supply Hose: If not installed, install rubber washer in one end of water supply hose. Thread the water supply hose onto the inner connector on the rear of the dishwasher. Hand tighten and use pliers to tighten hose between 1/8 and 1/4 turn beyond hand-tight.
- Drain Hose: If not installed, install rubber washer in one end of drain hose. Thread the drain hose onto the outer connector on the rear of the dishwasher. Hand tighten and use pliers to tighten hose between 1/8 and 1/4 turn beyond hand-tight.

NOTE: Be sure to not kink the drain hose for proper draining. Improper drain hose routing can cause the unit to be unable to fully drain, leading to water overflowing the dishwasher.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Connect Unicouple Water Supply Hose and Drain Hose to Dishwasher - 1

InstallFaucetAdapter

IMPORTANT: A sink spray attachment hose can burst if it is installed on the same faucet as your dishwasher. We suggest that you disconnect the sink spray attachment, if your sink has one, and place a cap over the opening.

The special faucet adapter supplied with your dishwasher must be attached to the sink faucet before you can use your dishwasher.

The faucet adapter and included threaded adapters are designed to fit most faucets.

Remove Current Facet Adapter

To install faucet adapter, first remove the old aerator or trim ring on your faucet spout.

Attach the Faucet Adapter External Threads

If faucet has external threads: Insert the thinner of the two washers into the faucet adapter and attach it to the faucet spout.
- Tighten with pliers.

Internal Threads

If faucet has internal threads: Insert both of the washers into the faucet adapter and attach it to the faucet spout.
- Tighten with pliers.

Non-Standard Threads

If the faucet adapter threads do not match your faucet spout, your local hardware or plumbing supply store normally has additional fittings to adapt your faucet spout to the special faucet adapter.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Non-Standard Threads - 1

Connect the Unicouple to the Facet

  • Run garbage disposser, if you have one, to clean out the dispenser and thus allow water to drain from the sink through the dispenser and down the drain.
  • Run hot water faucet to purge cold water from the hot water line. The hot water must be between 120^ and 150^ for best wash performance.
  • Attach the unicouple to the faucet adapter following the three steps below:

-Depress the locking collar at the top of the unicouple.

  • Place the unicouple completely over the faucet adapter.
  • Release the locking collar. The unicouple should now be locked onto the faucet adapter.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Connect the Unicouple to the Facet - 1

Turn on the hot water faucet and check for leaks. If a unicouple leak was observed, take whatever actions are necessary to repair the leak. This may be as simple as tightening the faucet adapter. Or, it may require the services of a plumber if water is leaking from the interface between the moveable faucet arm and the fixed part of the faucet fastened to the sink.

NOTE: The unicouple's small hose carries water from the faucet to the dishwasher. The large hose carries water from the dishwasher to the sink. Orient the faucet with the unicouple attached so water from the unicouple will run into the sink drain.

Plug the dishwasher power cord into the electrical outlet.

Unicouple connection - Optional

Disconnect and Store Your Dishwasher Remove Power

Unplug the dishwasher.
Turn off hot water.
Relieve water pressure from the unicouple assembly before disconnecting it from the faucet by depressing the red pressure relief button on the unicouple.

Drain Hose Connector

  • The molded end of the drain hose will fit 5/8'' through 1'' diameter inlet ports on the air gap or waste tee.
  • Determine size of inlet port. If required, cut drain hose connector on the marked line, to fit the inlet port.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Drain Hose Connector - 1
IMPORTANT: Do not cut this portion of hose.

Connect to Drain

Follow local codes and ordinances.
Total drain hose length must not exceed 10' from the rear of the dishwasher for proper drain operation.
A high drain loop must be used if waste teecnnection is less than 18" above floor to prevent siphoning or if space is limited.

Determine Drain Method

The type of drain installation depends on the following questions:

■ Is space limited or do local codes or ordinances require a high drain loop?
■ Is waste tee less than 18^ above floor?

If the answer to either question is YES, Method 1 MUST be used.

If the answers are NO, either method may be used.

Method 1-High Drain Loop to Waste Tee

Securely install a drain hose hanger to high loop the drain hose. Secure the drain hose to the waste tee with a hose clamp.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Method 1-High Drain Loop to Waste Tee - 1

Method 2 - Straight Connect to Waste Tee

Connect the drain hose straight to the waste tee. Secure the drain hose to the waste tee with a hose clamp.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Method 2 - Straight Connect to Waste Tee - 1

Plumed connection - Optional

Connect to Water Supply

Turn off the water supply.

If using a flexible braided supply hose, label the hose with the installation date to use as reference. Flexible braided hoses, elbows and gaskets should be replaced in 5 years.
Install a hand shut-off valve connector in an accessible location, such as under the sink. (Optional, but strongly recommended and may be required by local codes.) NOTE: Do not use a self piercing saddle type valve.
Install the water inlet line, using no less than 1/4 tubing or a flexible braided hose. For best performance connet to hot water line.
Adjust water heater for 120^ to 140^ temperature.
Flush water line to clean out debris.
The hot water supply line pressure must be 20-120 PSI.

NOTE: Periodically inspect all water inlet hoses for water leaks, wear, cuts, corrosion, and bulges. Replace all hoses immediately if any sign of these failures appear. All hoses should be replaced every 5 years of use to reduce risk of hose failures and possible water damage. When replacing hoses, refer to the Installation Instructions for proper installation. DO NOT overtighten or cross thread fittings. DO NOT allow the hose to rub against sharp objects, become kinked, or become over stretched. Always ensure hose rubber gaskets are installed and free from leaks when pressurized.

Stainless Steel Tub

The stainless steel used to make the dishwasher tub and inner door provides the highest reliability available in a GE Appliances dishwasher.

If the dishwasher tub or inner door should be scratched or dented during normal use, they will not rust or corrode. These surface blemishes will not affect their function or durability.

Spray Arm

Because hard water chemicals will clog the spray arm jets, it is necessary to clean the spray arm regularly.

To remove the spray arm, remove the lower rack and lift spray arm out.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Spray Arm - 1

To replace the spray arm, seat its center post in the dishwashers mounting base. Check that the spray arm is secure and that it rotates freely.

Wash the arm in soapy, warm water and use a soft brush to clean the jets. Rinse thoroughly, replace it and the rack.

GE Profile PZF560HGWBB - Spray Arm - 2

Filter Assembly

Inspect and clean the filter periodically. This should be done every month or more depending on usage. If there is a decrease in wash performance or dishes feel gritty, this is also an indication the filter needs to be cleaned.

To clean the filter assembly, remove the rack and spray arm. Twist the filter assembly counterclockwise and lift to remove. Separate the filter assembly by pressing in on its top tabs and pulling the top up and out.

Lift and remove the filter plate from the dishwasher.

Rinse the filters with warm soapy water. Scouring pads or brushes can scratch the filter surfaces but a soft brush or sponge may be needed to remove stubborn soils or calcium deposits caused by hard water.

IMPORTANT: Before replacing, make sure no objects have fallen into the opening in the bottom of the dishwasher.

Once cleaned, replace the filter plate, snap the filter assembly back together and insert it into the dishwasher base plate and twist it clockwise until it locks in place.

Make sure the filters are fully seated as improper replacement of the filters may reduce the performance level of the appliance. Replace the spray arm and rack.

Protect Against Freezing

If your dishwasher is left in an unheated place during the winter, ask a service technician to:

Unplug the dishwasher from the wall outlet.
Turn the water off and remove the Unicouple from the faucet.
Drain water from the Unicouple hose. (Use a pan to catch the water.)

Winterization Mode - For Hard Plumed RV installations or similar applications only

This dishwasher has a winterization feature that utilizes a fill, circulate and drain sequence to aid in the winterization of the dishwasher in the event that it is hard plumbed in Recreational Vehicle (RV) installations or similar applications only.

NOTE: The dishwasher will attempt to fill, circulate, and drain 3 times while in this mode. If at any time the dishwasher does not detect enough water it will drain and exit the mode. After the unit fills, circulates and drains 3 times, the unit will exit the mode. This mode can be canceled at any time by holding the START button for 3 seconds.

1 Unhook the water supply from the RV.
2 Attach an air pump to the water line to purge all water from the water lines.
3 Press and hold the Sanitize pad for 10 seconds. The dishwasher will attempt to fill, circulate and drain.

NOTE: If the dishwasher does not detect enough water to circulate, it will proceed directly as needed to drain.

Repeat step 3 until water lines are fully purged.

4 Attach RV rated non-toxic anti-freeze to the water supply system.

Repeat step 3 again to circulate anti-freeze through the dishwasher. (Verify that the dishwasher circulates the anti-freeze so that it is properly winterized.)
