9. If the power supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorised service centre in order to avoid all possible risks.
10. The unit must be installed in accordance with local installation and operating regulations for electrical installations.

BLUEPALM

1. The electrical socket in which you connect the unit must not be defective or loose and must be suitable for the required current load and, above all, reliably earthed. If in doubt, have your electrical installation checked by a qualified electrician.
2. Before connecting to the mains, you must check that the type of current and mains voltage correspond to the information on the unit type plate on the back.
3. Avoid using an extension cord as it could overheat and cause a fire.
4. Do not twist or bend the mains cable.
5. This appliance may only be used by adults.
6. Children under the age of 8 and persons with reduced physical, mental, sensory or spiritual capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge should not use this appliance unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
7. Do not let children play with the packaging and also make sure that children do not play with the appliance.
8. Do not use the air conditioner outdoors.
9. Do not use the appliance with wet hands.
10. Never operate the unit in rooms where gas, oil or sulphur are present.
11. Do not place the appliance near heat sources (e.g.: next to heating systems and gas boilers) and avoid direct sunlight.
12. Keep a minimum distance of at least 50 cm from flammable substances (e.g. alcohol, etc.) or vessels under pressure (e.g. spray containers).
13. Do not use the air conditioner near water or high humidity, e.g. in a damp basement, next to a swimming pool, bathtub or shower. Make sure that no water enters the unit.
14. Do not place heavy or hot objects on the appliance and never cover the appliance.
15. Never insert fingers, pens or other objects into the unit and make sure that the air inlet and outlet are never blocked.
16. Always switch off the appliance before unplugging it from the mains.
17. Do not pull on the mains cable to disconnect the appliance from the mains power. Always pull on the plug to unplug the mains cable. Do not handle the plug with wet hands to avoid electric shock.
18. Unplug the appliance when you are not using it, before cleaning it, when it needs maintenance or when it is moved from one place to another.
19. If the unit has a defect, switch it off with the on/off button on the control panel and contact the customer hotline.
20. Keep the air conditioner in good condition by maintaining and cleaning the unit.
21. The air filter must be cleaned at least once a week.
22. Store the unit upright in a safe, dry place out of reach of children when not in use. Do not cover the unit with plastic packaging.
23. Store the unit in a room without operating ignition sources (e.g. open fire, an operating gas appliance or an electric heater with an open heat source).
24. The air conditioner is to be transported in an upright position or slightly on its side. Empty the internal condensation water tank beforehand. Wait at least one hour after transporting the unit before switching it on.
25. Always and only contact service centres authorised by the manufacturer for any repairs to the appliance, mains plug or cable.

1. Do not use any means to accelerate or eliminate the defrosting process, the appliance does this on its own.
2. If you have any questions about maintenance, you can contact the customer hotline/service centre authorised by the manufacturer.

WARNING

The main switch and the On/Off switch should not be used as the sole means of disconnecting power. Always unplug the appliance before starting maintenance or moving the appliance.

To avoid the risk of electric shock, unplug the appliance from the mains when not in use - also before any cleaning.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON REFRIGERANT R290

1. R290 is a refrigerant in accordance with EC environmental specifications.
2. The refrigerant is odourless.
3. The appliance must be installed in a room where there are no sources of ignition in operation (e.g.: open fire, gas and electrical appliances in operation with an open heat source).
4. You must not perforate or burn the air conditioner.
5. Care must be taken not to drill into the cooling circuit.
6. Non-ventilated spaces where the unit is installed, operated or stored must be constructed in such a way that any refrigerant leaks do not accumulate. This prevents fire or explosion hazards caused by ignition of the refrigerant by electric cookers, cookers or other sources of ignition.
7. The unit must be stored in such a way that no mechanical damage can occur.
8. Persons working on or intervening in a refrigeration circuit must be in possession of a valid certificate issued by an authorised authority attesting to their expertise in handling refrigerants through an assessment specification recognised by industry associations.
9. Repair work must be carried out in accordance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the unit. Repair and maintenance operations that require the use of additional qualified personnel must be carried out under the supervision of the qualified person responsible for handling flammable refrigerants.

RECYCLING

The packaging materials can be recycled. Therefore, it is recommended to dispose of them in sorted waste.

DISPOSAL

The symbol "crossed-out dustbin" requires the separate disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Electrical and electronic equipment may contain hazardous and environmentally dangerous substances. Therefore, do not dispose of this in unsorted residual waste, but at a designated collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment. In accordance with Legislative Decree 188 of November 20, 2008, which implements Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries, accumulators and related waste, the symbol of the crossed-out wheelie bin on the battery indicates that it is prohibited to dispose of was batteries in household waste. Batteries and accumulators contain substances that are highly harmful to the environment. The user is obliged to dispose of used batteries at collection points in the community or in the appropriate containers. The service is free of charge. 1. On/Off switch Press the button to switch the air conditioner on or off.

2. Speed button Press the button to select the high/medium/low speed.

3. Temperature/time setting button Press it in cooling mode to increase/decrease the set temperature. Press it in time mode to adjust the on/off time. Press the "High" and "Low" buttons simultaneously to switch between Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius.

4. Mode button Press the button to select between cooling, ventilation, drying and heating.

5. Timer button Press the key in standby mode to set the switch-on time. Press this key in on mode to set the switch-off time.

6. Temperature/time display window This window shows the set temperature and time.

7. Pan key Press the key for the swivel function.

8. WiFi button Press the button to turn on the WiFi function, the device must be in standby mode.

9. Temperature switch button The key is used to switch between ^ C and ^ F.

COMMISSIONING

PREPARATION FOR USE

IMPORTANT!

Leave the appliance upright for at least 2 hours before operating it for the first time and make sure that the condensation water outlet is well closed.

• With a properly earthed socket, place the unit on a level surface near the window.
• The distance to walls or other objects must be at least 50 cm.
  • Before using the unit, make sure that both air inlet and air outlet are free of obstructions and not blocked.
• Observe the instructions in the chapter "Important information on safety, location and electrical connection".

Placement

• Place the unit on the horizontal floor near the window.
• For proper ventilation and best performance of the unit, the unit should be at least 50 cm away from the surroundings.

Step 1:

Handle - infinitely adjustable length

1. Measure the size of the window.
2. Adjust the length of the window sealing plate to the size of the window. After you have adjusted the window sealing plate, fasten it with knobs (see illustration).

Step 2:

Install the fixed window sealing plate on the window. (see illustration).

Step 3:

Turn the exhaust air hose (exhaust air joint) counterclockwise into the exhaust air outlet of the rear housing.

Step 4:

Attach the exhaust air pipe assembly (window adapter) to the window seal plate assembly and screw it tight.

NOTE

If the window opening is smaller than the minimum length of the window slider set, cut the end without the hatch until it fits into the window.

Never cut into the hole of the window slider set.

ATTENTION!!!Please observe the following instructions for both installations:	The exhaust air hose must be as short as possible and as little bent as possible so that the air can flow freely.
	The air conditioner should be placed on a solid floor to minimise noise and vibration. Place the unit on a straight, level surface that is strong enough to support the unit.
	The appliance must be placed within reach of a properly earthed socket. Never obstruct the air intake or exhaust openings of the appliance.
	The exhaust air hose is precisely matched to this appliance. Do not extend it or replace it with another hose, otherwise you could damage the appliance

First use of the remote control or replacement of the betterien:

• Remove the cover on the back of the remote control.
• Insert two "AAA" 1.5V batteries in the correct position (see instructions in the battery compartment).

Safety instructions for battery replacement:

• When the remote control is replaced or disposed of, the batteries must be removed and disposed of in accordance with current legislation as they are harmful to the environment.
• Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon zinc) or rechargeable (nickel cadmium) batteries.
• Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries can explode or leak.
• If the remote control will not be used for a long time, remove the batteries.

NOTE

If the remote control needs to be replaced or disposed of, the batteries must be removed and disposed of properly according to valid regulations!

Also remove the batteries if the remote control will not be used for a long time to prevent corrosion damage.

If the batteries need to be replaced, always replace both with ones of the same type and state of charge.

TIPS FOR CORRECT APPLICATION

Find here some hints to achieve the optimal performance of the air conditioner:

Close windows and doors in the room to be air-conditioned.
Protect the room from direct sunlight with curtains, blinds or shutters.This will save you energy.
Do not place any objects on the appliance and do not cover the air inlet and outlet. Keep the grilles clear.
Make sure that no heat sources are operating in the room.
Never use the appliance in very humid rooms (e.g. laundry rooms).
Do not use the appliance outdoors.
Make sure that the air conditioner is placed on a level floor.

HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS

COOLING MODE

• After switching on, the default setting is cooling mode. After the cooling mode is selected, the cooling indicator lights up.
• Press the up/down button to adjust the set temperature from 16^ to 30^ .
• Press the speed button to select between the speed levels High/Medium/Low.

BLUEPALM

VENTILATOR MODE

• After the fan mode has been selected with the remote control, the wind indicator lights up.
• Press the speed button to select between the speed levels High/Medium/Low.

The temperature cannot be adjusted.

DEHUMIDIFICATION MODE

In dry mode, the dry indicator light is activated.

Remove the water plug on the back of the appliance as shown in the illustration. Insert the water pipe (not supplied) and place the other end in a water tank or drain.

In dry mode, the compressor starts when the room temperature is higher than ≥17^ ( 63^ ). The compressor follows the following rules:

• When the room temperature is ≤15^ ( 59^ ), the compressor is switched off.
• When the room temperature is ≥17^ (63°F), the compressor is restarted. (The restart takes place after three minutes due to the protective function).

In dry mode, the fan runs at low speed by default and the wind speed cannot be adjusted.

The temperature cannot be adjusted.

Note: The exhaust pipe should be removed in dry mode as this may affect performance and the "FL" water level alarm light will illuminate.

HEATING MODE

• After selecting the heating mode by the remote control, the wind indicator lights up.
• Press the up/down button to adjust the set temperature from 16^ to 30^ .
• Press the speed button to select between high/medium/low speed.

TIMER MODE

• In standby mode, press the timer button to set the switch-on time. Press the up and down buttons to set between 0 and 24 hours and the timer indicator lights up.
• After the air conditioner is switched on, press the timer button to set the switch-off time. Press the up and down buttons to set between 0 and 24 hours and the timer indicator lights up.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

CLEAN AIR FLITER

To ensure efficient operation of the air conditioner, clean the air filter a

1. Before cleaning, switch off the appliance, wait a few minutes and then unplug the appliance to disconnect it from the mains.
2. Pull off the exhaust hose.
3. The air conditioner has a total of 2 air filters:

Open the two air inlet grilles on the back and remove the filter underneath as shown in the picture:

1. To remove the dust accumulated in the air filters, use a hoover.
2. If the air filter is very dirty, you can immerse it in hot water and rinse it several times - however, the water temperature should not exceed 40°C.
3. After washing, let the air filter dry out well and then replace them.

NOTE

Never use the appliance without a filter.

CLEANING THE HOUSING

Before cleaning, switch off the appliance, wait a few minutes and then always unplug the appliance from the electrical mains.

Clean the unit with a moderately damp cloth and then wipe it with a dry cloth.

• For safety reasons, never clean the appliance with water. This could be dangerous.
• Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents for cleaning.
• Do not spray insecticides or similar agents on the air conditioner.

EMPTY WATER TANK MANUALLY

The unit has an automatic water evaporation system. The circulation of the condensed water cools the compressor, which not only improves the cooling performance but also saves energy.

If the water tank is still full, "FL" appears on the control panel display and the air conditioner switches off automatically. The unit is locked until the water tank is emptied.

To empty the condensation water tank, follow the steps below:

1. Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
2. Place a collecting vessel under the condensation water outlet at the back of the appliance, carefully remove the cap from the outlet and allow the water to drain into the collecting vessel.
3. At the end, you can tilt the air conditioner slightly - but not more than 30^ .
4. Once the tank is completely empty, carefully reinsert the plug into the water outlet.
5. Plug in the mains plug and restart the unit.

ACTIVITIES AT THE BEGINNING/END OF THE SEASON

END OF SEASON ACTIVITIES

• Carefully empty the condensation water tank completely into a suitable container as described in the section "Emptying the water tank".
• Run the air conditioner in fan mode for 2 hours until the unit is completely dry inside.
• Switch off the unit and disconnect the mains plug.
• Clean the filter and push it back in after it has dried (see section "Cleaning the air filter").
• Remove the exhaust hose and accessories and stow them carefully.
• Remove the batteries from the remote control
• Pack the unit and store it in a cool, dry place.

CONTROLS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON

• Check that the power supply cable and the socket are in order and that the earthing is functional.
• Make sure that the plug is carefully fitted in the condensation water outlet and that the filters are inserted.
• Follow the installation and safety instructions carefully.

REMEDYING THE PROBLEMS

The following table lists common problems and maintenance procedures for this series of portable air conditioners. If the machine exhibits unusual operating conditions, you can refer to this table for easy diagnosis and maintenance. If the problem persists, we recommend that you contact qualified service personnel.

If you do not yet have a Smart Life account, you can register or log in with a verification code that will be sent to you via SMS.

To register:

• Navigate to the registration area in the app.
• The system will automatically detect your country or region. You also have the option of selecting the country code manually. Enter your mobile phone number or email address and tap "Continue."
• If you choose the mobile phone number option, enter the verification code you received via SMS. Then set a password and tap "Confirm" to complete the registration.

Adding a device manually:

• When the air conditioner is in standby mode, press and hold the WIFI button on the control panel for 5 seconds to enter Wi-Fi connection mode. The Wi-Fi signal light will start flashing.
• Open the Smart Home app and tap "+" in the upper right corner to add a new device via the network.
• Make sure the operating light is flashing, tap "Confirm" that the light is flashing, and follow the instructions on the screen.
• Select the Wi-Fi network (note: the network must be in the 2.4 GHz band) and enter the password. The device will start the pairing process and connect to the app.
• Once the device has been successfully configured, the air conditioner will be displayed on the Smart Home page. Tap on it to access the device controls.

Adding a device automatically

• Make sure the device is in standby mode before connecting.
• Press the WIFI button for 5 seconds to switch to Wi-Fi connection mode, and the Wi-Fi signal light will start flashing.

If, contrary to expectations, service work should nevertheless be necessary on your device during this period, we hereby guarantee to repair the device free of charge (spare parts and labour) or (at the discretion of Schuss) to exchange the product. Should neither repair nor exchange be possible for economic reasons, we reserve the right to issue a credit note for the current value.

In the case of air conditioners, please contact the customer hotline as a first step (see sticker on the unit or cover page of the operating instructions), in the case of fans, please contact your specialist dealer or us directly. We would like to point out that repair work that has not been carried out by the authorised contract workshop in Austria will immediately terminate the validity of this warranty.

This warranty does not cover:

• Repair or replacement of parts due to normal wear and tear
• Damage due to non-observance of the operating instructions
  • Devices that are used - even only partially - for commercial purposes
• equipment mechanically damaged by external influence (fall, impact, breakage, improper use, etc.) as well as wear and tear of an aesthetic nature.

• Equipment that has been improperly handled

- Units that have not been opened by our authorised service workshop.

- Damage caused as a result of improperly closed condensation drain valves of air conditioners or improperly inserted water tank.

- Consumer expectations not met.

- Damage caused by force majeure, water, lightning, overvoltage.

- Units where the type designation and/or serial number on the unit has been changed, deleted, made illegible or removed.

- Services outside our authorised workshops, the transport costs to an authorised workshop or to us and back, and the associated risks.

We expressly point out that within the warranty period, a lump sum of € 60,- (indexed basis CPI 2015, June 2020) will be charged in case of operating errors or if no error was detected.

The provision of warranty service (repair or replacement of the appliance) does not extend the absolute warranty period of 2 years from the date of purchase.

The 2-year warranty is only valid on presentation of the purchase receipt (must contain the name and address of the dealer as well as the complete designation of the unit) and the corresponding warranty certificate, on which the type of unit as well as the serial number (visible on the box and on the back or bottom of the unit) must be noted! Without the warranty certificate, only the legal warranty applies!

We expressly point out that the statutory warranty rights are not affected by this guarantee and continue undiminished.

Schuss Home Electronic GmbH and its vicarious agents shall only be liable for damages in the event of gross negligence or intent. Liability for loss of profit, expected but not realised savings, consequential damage and damage from third party claims is excluded in any case. INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPAIRING APPLIANCES CONTAINING R290

1 GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1.1 Checks to the area

Prior to beginning work on systems containing flammable refrigerants, safety checks are necessary to ensure that the risk of ignition is minimized. For repair to the refrigerating system, the following precautions shall be complied with prior to conducting work on the system.

1.2 Work procedure

Work shall be undertaken under a controlled procedure so as to minimize the risk of a flammable gas or vapor being present while the work is being performed.

1.3 General work area

All maintenance staff and others working in the local area shall be instructed on the nature of work being carried out. Work in confined spaces shall be avoided. The area around the workspace shall be sectioned off. Ensure that the conditions within the area have been made safe by control of flammable material.

1.4 Checking for presence of refrigerant

The area shall be checked with an appropriate refrigerant detector prior to and during work, to ensure the technician is aware of potentially flammable atmospheres. Ensure that the leak section equipment being used is suitable for use with flammable refrigerants, i.e. non sparking, adequately sealed or intrinsically safe.

1.5 Presence of fire extinguisher

If any hot work is to be conducted on the refrigeration equipment or any associated parts, appropriate fire extinguishing equipment shall be available to hand. Have a dry powder or CO 2 fire extinguisher adjacent to the charging area.

1.6 No ignition sources

BLUEPALM

No person carrying out work in relation to a refrigeration system which involves exposing any pipe work that contains or has contained flammable refrigerant shall use any sources of ignition in such a manner that it may lead to the risk of fire or explosion. All possible ignition sources, including ecigarette smoking, should be kept sufficiently far away from the site of installation, repairing, removing and disposal, during which flammable refrigerant can possibly be released to the surrounding space. Prior to work taking place, the area around the equipment is to be surveyed to make sure that there are no flammable hazards or ignition risks. "No Smoking" signs shall be displayed.

1.7 Ventilated area

Ensure that the area is in the open or that it is adequately ventilated before breaking into the system or conducting any hot work. A degree of ventilation shall continue during the period that the work is carried out. The ventilation should safely disperse any released refrigerant and preferably expel it externally into the atmosphere.

1.8 Checks to the refrigeration equipment

Where electrical components are being changed, they shall be fit for the purpose and to the correct specification. At all times the manufacturer's maintenance and service guidelines shall be followed. If in doubt consult the manufacturer's technical department for assistance. The following checks shall be applied to installations using flammable refrigerants: the charge size is in accordance with the room size within which the refrigerant containing parts are installed; the ventilation machinery and outlets are operating adequately and are not obstructed; if an indirect refrigerating circuit is being used, the secondary circuit shall be checked for the presence of refrigerant; marking to the equipment continues to be visible and legible. Markings and signs that are illegible shall be corrected; refrigeration pipe or components are installed in a position where they are unlikely to be exposed to any substance which may corrode refrigerant containing components, unless the components are constructed of materials which are inherently resistant to being corroded or are suitably protected against being so corroded.

1.9 Checks to electrical devices

Repair and maintenance to electrical components shall include initial safety checks and component inspection procedures. If a fault exists that could compromise safety, then no electrical supply shall be connected to the circuit until it is satisfactorily dealt with. If the fault cannot be corrected immediately but it is necessary to continue operation, an adequate temporary solution shall be used. This shall be reported to the owner of the equipment so all parties are advised.

Initial safety checks shall include: Those capacitors are discharged: this shall be done in a safe manner to avoid possibility of sparking; that there no live electrical components and wiring are exposed while charging, recovering or purging the system; that there is continuity of earth bonding.

2 REPAIRS TO SEALED COMPONENTS

2.1 During repairs to sealed components, all electrical supplies shall be disconnected from the equipment being worked upon prior to any removal of sealed covers, etc. If it is absolutely necessary to have an electrical supply to equipment during servicing, then a permanently operating form of leak detection shall be located at the most critical point to warn of a potentially hazardous situation.

2.2 Particular attention shall be paid to the following to ensure that by working on electrical components, the casing is not altered in such a way that the level of protection is affected.

This shall include damage to cables, excessive number of connections, terminals not made to original specification, damage to seals, incorrect fitting of glands, etc. Ensure that apparatus is mounted securely. Ensure that seals or sealing materials have not degraded such that they no longer serve the purpose of preventing the ingress of flammable atmospheres. Replacement parts shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.

NOTE: The use of silicon sealant may inhibit the effectiveness of some types of leak detection equipment. Intrinsically safe components do not have to be isolated prior to working on them.

3 REPAIR TO INTRINSICALLY SAFE COMPONENTS

BLUEPALM

Do not apply any permanent inductive or capacitance loads to the circuit without ensuring that this will not exceed the permissible voltage and current permitted for the equipment in use.

Intrinsically safe components are the only types that can be worked on while live in the presence of a flammable atmosphere. The test apparatus shall be at the correct rating. Replace components only with parts specified by the manufacturer. Other parts may result in the ignition of refrigerant in the atmosphere from a leak.

4 CABLING

Check that cabling will not be subject to wear, corrosion, excessive pressure, vibration, sharp edges or any other adverse environmental effects. The check shall also take into account the effects of aging or continual vibration from sources such as compressors or fans.

5 DETECTION OF FLAMMABLE REFRIGERANTS

Under no circumstances shall potential sources of ignition be used in the searching for or detection of refrigerant leaks. A halide torch (or any other detector using a naked flame) shall not be used.

6 LEAK DETECTION METHODS

The following leak detection methods are deemed acceptable for systems containing flammable refrigerants. Electronic leak detectors shall be used to detect flammable refrigerants, but the sensitivity may not be adequate, or may need recalibration. (Detection equipment shall be calibrated in a refrigerant-free area.) Ensure that the detector is not a potential source of ignition and is suitable for the refrigerant used. Leak detection equipment shall be set at a percentage of the LFL of the refrigerant and shall be calibrated to the refrigerant employed and the appropriate percentage of gas (25 % maximum) is confirmed. Leak detection fluids are suitable for use with most refrigerants but the use of detergents containing chlorine shall be avoided as the chlorine may react with the refrigerant and corrode the copper pipe-work. If a leak is suspected, all naked flames shall be removed/extinguished. If a leakage of refrigerant is found which requires brazing, all of the refrigerant shall be recovered from the system, or isolated (by means of shut off valves) in a part of the system remote from the leak. Oxygen free nitrogen (OFN) shall then be purged through the system both before and during the brazing process.

7 REMOVAL AND EVACUATION

When breaking into the refrigerant circuit to make repairs – or for any other purpose – conventional procedures shall be used. However, it is important that best practice is followed since flammability is a consideration. The following procedure shall be adhered to: remove refrigerant; purge the circuit with inert gas; evacuate; purge again with inert gas; open the circuit by cutting or brazing. The refrigerant charge shall be recovered into the correct recovery cylinders. The system shall be “flushed” with OFN to render the unit safe. This process may need to be repeated several times. Compressed air or oxygen shall not be used for this task. Flushing shall be achieved by breaking the vacuum in the system with OFN and continuing to fill until the working pressure is achieved, then venting to atmosphere, and finally pulling down to a vacuum. This process shall be repeated until no refrigerant is within the system. When the final OFN charge is used, the system shall be vented down to atmospheric pressure to enable work to take place. This operation is absolutely vital if brazing operations on the pipework are to take place.

Ensure that the outlet for the vacuum pump is not close to any ignition sources and there is ventilation available.

8 CHARGING PROCEDURES

In addition to conventional charging procedures, the following requirements shall be followed.

• Ensure that contamination of different refrigerants does not occur when using charging equipment. Hoses or lines shall be as short as possible to minimize the amount of refrigerant contained in them.
  • Cylinders shall be kept upright.
• Ensure that the refrigeration system is earthed prior to charging the system with refrigerant.
• Label the system when charging is complete (if not already).
  • Extreme care shall be taken not to overfill the refrigeration system.
• Prior to recharging the system it shall be pressure tested with OFN. The system shall be leak Tested on completion of charging but prior to commissioning. A follow up leak test shall be Carried out prior to leaving the site.

9 DECOMMISSIONING

Before carrying out this procedure, it is essential that the technician is completely familiar with the equipment and all its detail. It is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are recovered safely. Prior to the task being carried out, an oil and refrigerant sample shall be taken in case analysis is required prior to re-use of reclaimed refrigerant. It is essential that electrical power is available before the task is commenced.

1. Become familiar with the equipment and its operation.
2. Isolate system electrically.
3. Before attempting the procedure ensure that :mechanical handling equipment is available, if required, for handling refrigerant cylinders; all personal protective equipment is available and being used correctly; the recovery process is supervised at all times by a competent person; recovery equipment and cylinders conform to the appropriate standards.
4. Pump down refrigerant system, if possible.
5. If a vacuum is not possible, make a manifold so that refrigerant can be removed from various parts of the system.
6. Make sure that cylinder is situated on the scales before recovery takes place.
7. Start the recovery machine and operate in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
8. Do not overfill cylinders. (No more than 80 % volume liquid charge).
9. Do not exceed the maximum working pressure of the cylinder, even temporarily.
10. When the cylinders have been filled correctly and the process completed, make sure 11. that the cylinders and the equipment are removed from site promptly and all isolation
11. valves on the equipment are closed off.
12. Recovered refrigerant shall not be charged into another refrigeration system
13. unless it has been cleaned and checked.

10 LABELLING

Equipment shall be labelled stating that it has been de-commissioned and emptied of refrigerant. The label shall be dated and signed. Ensure that there are labels on the equipment stating the equipment contains flammable refrigerant.

11 RECOVERY

When removing refrigerant from a system, either for servicing or decommissioning, it is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are removed safely. When transferring refrigerant into cylinders, ensure that only appropriate refrigerant recovery cylinders are employed. Ensure that the correct number of cylinders for holding the total system charge is available. All cylinders to be used are designated for the recovered refrigerant and labelled for that refrigerant (i.e. special cylinders for the recovery of refrigerant). Cylinders shall be complete with pressure relief valve and associated shut-off valves in good working order. Empty recovery cylinders are evacuated and, if possible, cooled before recovery occurs.

The recovery equipment shall be in good working order with a set of instructions concerning the equipment that is at hand and shall be suitable for the recovery of flammable refrigerants. In addition, a set of calibrated weighing scales shall be available and in good working order. Hoses shall be complete with leak-free disconnect couplings and in good condition. Before using the recovery machine, check that it is in satisfactory working order, has been properly maintained and that any associated electrical components are sealed to prevent ignition in the event of a refrigerant release. Consult manufacturer if in doubt.

The recovered refrigerant shall be returned to the refrigerant supplier in the correct recovery cylinder, and the relevant Waste Transfer Note arranged. Do not mix refrigerants in recovery units and especially not in cylinders.

If compressors or compressor oils are to be removed, ensure that they have been evacuated to an acceptable level to make certain that flammable refrigerant does not remain within the lubricant. The evacuation process shall be carried out prior to returning the compressor to the suppliers. Only electric heating to the compressor body shall be employed to accelerate this process. When oil is drained from a system, it shall be carried out safely.

Competence of service personnel

General

Special training additional to usual refrigerating equipment repair procedures is required when equipment with flammable refrigerants is affected.

In many countries, this training is carried out by national training organizations that are accredited to teach the relevant national competency standards that may be set in legislation. The achieved competence should be documented by a certificate.

Training

The training should include the substance of the following:

Information about the explosion potential of flammable refrigerants to show that flammables may be dangerous when handled without care.

Information about potential ignition sources, especially those that are not obvious, such as lighters, light switches, vacuum cleaners, electric heaters.

Information about the different safety concepts:

Unventilated – (see Clause GG.2) Safety of the appliance does not depend on ventilation of the housing. Switching off the appliance or opening of the housing has no significant effect on the safety. Nevertheless, it is possible that leaking refrigerant may accumulate inside the enclosure and flammable atmosphere will be released when the enclosure is opened.

Ventilated enclosure – (see Clause GG.4) Safety of the appliance depends on ventilation of the housing. Switching off the appliance or opening of the enclosure has a significant effect on the safety. Care should be taken to ensure a sufficient ventilation before.

Ventilated room – (see Clause GG.5) Safety of the appliance depends on the ventilation of the room. Switching off the appliance or opening of the housing has no significant effect on the safety. The ventilation of the room shall not be switched off during repair procedures. Information about the concept of sealed components and sealed enclosures according to IEC 60079-15:2010.

Information about the correct working procedures:

1. Commissioning

o Ensure that the floor area is sufficient for the refrigerant charge or that the ventilation duct is assembled in a correct manner.
o Connect the pipes and carry out a leak test before charging with refrigerant.
o Check safety equipment before putting into service.

2. Maintenance

o Portable equipment shall be repaired outside or in a workshop specially equipped for servicing units with flammable refrigerants.
o Ensure sufficient ventilation at the repair place.
Be aware that malfunction of the equipment may be caused by refrigerant loss and a refrigerant leak is possible.
Discharge capacitors in a way that won't cause any spark. The standard procedure to short circuit the capacitor terminals usually creates sparks.
o Reassemble sealed enclosures accurately. If seals are worn, replace them.
- Check safety equipment before putting into service.

When brazing is required, the following procedures shall be carried out in the right order:

- Remove the refrigerant. If the recovery is not required by national regulations, drain the refrigerant to the outside. Take care that the drained refrigerant will not cause any danger. In doubt, one person should guard the outlet. Take special care that drained refrigerant will not float back into the building.

• Evacuate the refrigerant circuit.

- Purge the refrigerant circuit with nitrogen for 5 min.

• Remove parts to be replaced by cutting, not by flame.
  • Purge the braze point with nitrogen during the brazing procedure.
• Carry out a leak test before charging with refrigerant.
  • Reassemble sealed enclosures accurately. If seals are worn, replace them.

• Check safety equipment before putting into service.

• Decommissioning o If the safety is affected when the equipment is put out of service, the refrigerant charge shall be removed before decommissioning.

o Ensure sufficient ventilation at the equipment location.
Be aware that malfunction of the equipment may be caused by refrigerant loss and a refrigerant leak is possible.
o Discharge capacitors in a way that won't cause any spark.
Remove the refrigerant. If the recovery is not required by national regulations, drain the refrigerant to the outside. Take care that the drained refrigerant will not cause any danger. In doubt, one person should guard the outlet. Take special care that drained refrigerant will not float back into the building.

o Evacuate the refrigerant circuit.
o Purge the refrigerant circuit with nitrogen for 5 min.

o Fill with nitrogen up to atmospheric pressure.
o Put a label on the equipment that the refrigerant is removed.

o Evacuate again.
o Cut out the compressor and drain the oil.

Transportation, marking and storage for units that employ flammable refrigerants

Transport of equipment containing flammable refrigerants

Attention is drawn to the fact that additional transportation regulations may exist with respect to equipment containing flammable gas. The maximum number of pieces of equipment or the configuration of the equipment, permitted to be transported together will be determined by the applicable transport regulations.

Marking of equipment using signs

Signs for similar appliances used in a work area generally are addressed by local regulations and give the minimum requirements for the provision of safety and/or health signs for a work location.

All required signs are to be maintained and employers should ensure that employees receive suitable and sufficient instruction and training on the meaning of appropriate safety signs and the actions that need to be taken in connection with these signs.

The effectiveness of signs should not be diminished by too many signs being placed together. Any pictograms used should be as simple as possible and contain only essential details.

Storage of equipment/appliances

The storage of equipment should be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Storage of packed (unsold) equipment Storage package protection should be constructed such that mechanical damage to the equipment inside the package will not cause a leak of the refrigerant charge. The maximum number of pieces of equipment permitted to be stored together will be determined by local regulations.
