1. Information about this user manual

Please read the safety instructions and the user manual carefully before using the appliance for the first time. Note the warnings on the appliance and in the user manual.
Always keep the user manual close to hand. If you sell the appliance or give it away, please ensure that you also pass on this user manual. It is an essential component of the product.

2. Proper use
The appliance is intended for grilling food indoors and in weather-protected outdoor areas. Do not use the appliance outdoors.
This appliance is designed for use in private households and similar household applications, such as:
- in kitchens for staff in retail outlets, offices and other commercial areas
• on agricultural estates - by customers in hotels, motels and other accommodation facilities
• in bed-and-breakfast establishments.
The appliance is not intended for commercial or industrial use.
Please note that we shall not be liable in cases of improper use:
▶ Do not modify the appliance without our consent and do not use any auxiliary equipment that we have not approved or supplied.
▶ Only use replacement parts or accessories that we have supplied or approved.
▶ Comply with all the information in this user manual, especially the safety instructions. Any other use is considered improper and can cause personal injury or property damage.
3. Safety instructions

■ This appliance can be used by children of 8 years and older, and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacity, or with a lack of experience and/or knowledge, but only with proper supervision, or if they have been told how to use the appliance safely, and have understood the risks involved if they use it improperly.
■ Children must not be allowed to play with the appliance.
■ Do not allow children to clean the appliance or perform maintenance tasks on it unless they are aged 8 years or older and properly supervised.
■ Do not allow children younger than 8 years old near the appliance and its power cable.

WARNING!
Risk of electric shock/short circuit!
There is a risk of electric shock/short circuit from live parts.
■ Only connect the appliance to a properly installed, earthed and fused socket that is close to the place where you have set up the appliance. The local mains voltage must match the voltage stated in the technical specifications for the appliance.
■ The appliance may only be operated via a residual current device (RCD/FI) with a rated tripping current of max. 30 mA. Contact an electrician if necessary.
■ No action is required by the user to switch the product between 50 and 60 Hz. The product is suitable for both 50 and 60 Hz.
■ The power socket must be easily accessible so that you can unplug the appliance from the mains quickly if necessary.
■ Always hold the plug to pull it out, and never pull the mains cable.
■ Completely unwind the mains cable.
■ Do not kink or crush the mains cable.
■ Do not allow the mains cable to come into contact with hot objects or surfaces (e.g. cooker hob).
■ Do not use if the appliance or the mains cable is visibly damaged or if the appliance has been dropped.
■ Check the appliance and the mains cable for damage before using the appliance for the first time and after each use.
■ Contact our Service team without delay if the appliance has been damaged during transport.
■ Do not, under any circumstances, make any unauthorised modifications to the appliance or try to open and/or repair a component yourself.
■ If there is damage to the mains connection cable on this appliance, it must be replaced by the manufacturer,
its customer service department or another suitably qualified person. This is necessary to avoid hazards.
■ Never open the housing or slide objects into the ventilation slots.
■ The appliance must not be submerged in water or other liquids, nor exposed to running water or used in damp environments, as this may result in an electric shock.
■ Do not let the appliance come into contact with water or other liquids. Keep the appliance, the mains cable and the mains plug away from sinks, bathtubs, swimming pools etc.
■ Only use the appliance outdoors in dry weather, never use it in damp weather. Never leave the appliance outside after use.
■ Only use the appliance in protected outdoor areas or indoors.
■ Never touch the appliance or mains cable with wet or damp hands.
■ Do not use the appliance in potentially explosive atmos-
pheres. This includes petrol stations, fuel storage areas and areas where solvents are processed, for example. This appliance must also not be used in areas with particle-laden air (for example flour or wood dust).
■ Unplug the appliance ma plug from the socket if:
– before cleaning or maintaining the appliance
– during thunderstorms
- if the appliance is damp or wet
- when the appliance is un-
attended
- when you are no longer using the appliance

WARNING!
Risk of injury!
There is a risk of injury due to burning on hot surfaces.
The touchable surfaces on the appliance may become hot during operation.
■ During operation, touch the appliance only by the temperature control. Use oven gloves.
■ Allow the appliance to cool completely before replacing or removing the grill plates.
■ Steam escapes during grill- ing. Do not reach into this steam.
■ Disconnect the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning.
■ The heating elements remain hot for some time after the appliance is switched off. Make sure that no one touches the grill plates.
■ Do not move the appliance while it is in use. Always allow the appliance to cool down before moving it and empty the grease drip tray first.
■ Make sure that the grease drip tray has been inserted correctly. Do not grill without a grease drip tray. Check regularly whether the grease drip tray is full and empty it in good time.

WARNING! Risk of fire!
Hot surfaces pose a risk of fire.
■ Do not operate this appliance with an external timer or a separate remote control system, such as a remote control mains socket.
■ Never leave the appliance unattended while it is in use.
■ Do not cover the appliance with aluminium foil, aluminium trays or other materials to avoid overheating and damaging the appliance.
4. Package contents

DANGER!
Risk of injury!
There is a risk of choking and suffocation due to swallowing or inhaling small parts or plastic wrap.
- Keep all packaging materials used (bag, pieces of polystyrene etc.) out of the reach of children.
■ Do not allow children to play with the packaging material.
Remove the product from the packaging and remove all packaging materials.
▶ Check the package contents to ensure that all items are included. If anything is missing, please contact our Service team within 14 days of purchase.

6. Before using the appliance for the first time
6.1. Setting up the appliance

WARNING!
Risk of injury!
There is a risk of injury/burns due the hot surfaces.
■ Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, dry and level surface.
■ Do not place the appliance on surfaces that can become hot (e.g. on hotplates).
■ Do not place any objects on the appliance.
■ Never place the appliance on the edge of a table – it could tip over and fall.
■ Ensure that the mains cable does not become a tripping hazard and do not use an extension cable.
■ Do not expose the appliance to extreme conditions. Avoid:
– high humidity or wet conditions
- extremely high or low temperatures
- direct sunlight
- naked flames.
■ Do not allow the mains cable to come into contact with hot objects or surfaces (e.g. cooker hob).
■ Ensure that the appliance does not come into contact with any other objects during use. Allow sufficient clearance in all directions and above. Above all, do not set up the appliance near easily flammable materials (curtains, drapes, paper etc.). This poses a risk of fire.
■ Do not cover the appliance with aluminium foil, aluminium trays or other materials to avoid overheating and damaging the appliance.

Insert the grill plate at a slight angle with the two locking pins in the two locking holes (see Fig. 3). Fold down the grill plate until it clicks into place.

Insert the grease drip tray fully into the appliance with the opening facing upwards.
▶ Insert the wind/splash guard into the groove on the grill plates.
6.2. Cleaning and heating the appliance for the first time
Remove all packaging materials.
Before using the appliance for the first time and after every subsequent use, clean the grill plates, the wind/splash guard and the grease drip tray with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water and a little washing-up liquid. Dry the parts thoroughly (see also "8. Cleaning and care" on page 89).
▶ Allow the appliance to heat up for approx. 5–10 minutes on the highest temperature setting without food (see "7.4. Grilling" on page 88).

During this initial heating period you may notice faint odours. This does not mean that the appliance is malfunctioning.
■ Ensure adequate ventilation.
7. Using the grill

WARNING!
Risk of burning!
The surfaces of the appliance that can be touched, especially the grill plates and the wind/splash guard, become hot during operation.

■ Always take hold of the appliance by the temperature control when it is in use. There is a risk of burns!
■ Never leave the appliance unattended FR while it is in use.
■ The wind/splash guard is simply attached but not locked in place. Therefore, avoid accidentally knocking down the wind/splash guard.

CAUTION!
Risk of burning!
Hot steam or splashes of fat will escape when you use the grill.
■ To avoid burns, do not reach into the steam.
■ Only touch the grilled food using utensils, e.g. tongs.
■ Use oven gloves.
■ Do not move the appliance while it is in use. Always allow the appliance to cool down before moving it and empty the grease drip tray first.
■ Make sure that the grease drip tray has been inserted correctly. Do not grill without a grease drip tray. Check regularly whether the grease drip tray is full and empty it in good time.

NOTICE!
Possibility of damage to the appliance!
There is a risk of damage to the appliance if it is used improperly. The surfaces of the grill plate are sensitive.
■ Do not use sharp objects or utensils made of metal that could damage the non-stick coating on the grill plates.
7.1. Preparing food
▶ Prepare the food according to your recipe.
▶ Defrost frozen food completely before grilling.
If the food is stored in the refrigerator, take it out before grilling and wait until it has reached room temperature.
▶ Marinated grilled food becomes particularly tender and flavourful.
▶ Depending on the type of meat, the meat should only be salted after grilling.
▶ Fats and oils are collected in the fat drip tray so that the food is grilled with little fat, contributing to healthy, wholesome cooking.
7.2. Selecting the heat setting
The following table shows some guide values for the cooking time of different types of food. The grilling time may vary depending on personal taste and the thickness of the food.

7.3. Grill plates
- The ribbed grilling surface of the grill plate is particularly suitable for grilling steaks and other types of meat.
- The smooth grilling surface is particularly suitable for preparing fish and vegetables and for keeping food that has already been grilled warm.
7.4. Grilling
▶ Lightly grease the grill plate.
▶ Set the temperature control to OFF.
▶ Connect the mains plug to a properly installed socket.
An acoustic signal will sound. The ring-shaped operating light on the temperature control lights up white.
▶ Set the required heat setting using the temperature control. Turn the temperature control clockwise.
The heat settings 1-5 and intermediate settings are infinitely adjustable.
The red operating light on the temperature control indicates the heating process. As soon as the appliance has reached the required temperature, the operating light lights up green and five acoustic signals sound.
The grill plate is now heated and the grill can be used.

The operating light may light up red repeatedly during operation. It indicates the heating process to maintain the set temperature.
Place the prepared food on the grill plate.
▶ Turn the food periodically, e.g. using wooden tongs or plastic utensils.
▶ Check the food on the grill after about 2 to 4 minutes, to avoid burning the food.
▶ If the grilled food is not yet cooked through, leave it on the grill plate to cook for longer.
▶ If the grilled food is ready, remove it from the grill using a heat-resistant wooden or plastic utensil.
7.5. Switching off the appliance
▶ After each use, switch off the appliance by turning the temperature control anti-clockwise to OFF. The ring-shaped operating light on the temperature control lights up white for a few seconds.
▶ Pull the mains plug out of the socket.
▶ Allow the appliance to cool down completely and clean it.
8. Cleaning and care

DANGER!
Risk of electric shock!
There is a risk of electric shock due to live parts.
■ Switch off the grill and unplug the mains plug from the socket before cleaning.
■ Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.

WARNING!
Risk of injury!
There is a risk of injury due to burning on hot surfaces.
The touchable surfaces on the appliance may become hot during operation.
■ Allow the appliance to cool down completely before removing the grill plates and cleaning.
■ Before removing the grease drip tray, make sure that the temperature of the oil/grease in the drip tray is below 40 °C, otherwise burns may occur at higher temperatures.

NOTICE!
Possibility of damage to the appliance!
There is a risk of damage to the appliance if it is used improperly. The surfaces of the grill plate are sensitive.
■ Avoid the use of sharp objects to prevent scratches. Use wood or heatproof plastic utensils to remove the grilled foods.
■ Never use acidic, abrasive or granular, acetic-acid-, soda- or solvent-based cleaning agents. These may damage the surfaces of your appliance.
■ Do not use metal objects to clean the grill plates.
■ Clean the appliance after every use.

The grill plates, the wind/splash guard and the grease drip tray are dishwasher-safe.
▶ Press the point labelled "Push" on the grease drip tray to unlock it. Pull the grease drip tray completely out of the appliance.
▶ Dispose of the collected oil/grease in household waste. Do not pour it down a sink, as grease can block the drain.
▶ Remove the wind/splash guard.

▶ Press the release button on the side of the appliance to release the grill plate. Remove the grill plate from the housing at a slight angle.
Clean the parts with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water and a little washing-up liquid. If necessary, soak the grill plates in lukewarm water with a little washing-up liquid beforehand.
▶ Dry the parts thoroughly.
The removable parts are dishwasher-safe.
▶ After cleaning, reassemble the parts as described at "6.1. Setting up the appliance" on page 86.
9. Prolonged non-use and transport
Clean the appliance as described in section "8. Cleaning and care" on page 89 and allow everything to dry thoroughly.
When you are not using the appliance, pull out the mains plug, wind the mains cable around the cable tidy and store the appliance in a dry, dust-free and frost-free environment that is not exposed to direct sunlight.
▶ Do not store the appliance within the reach of children.
▶ To avoid damage during transport, we recommend that you use the original packaging.
10. Troubleshooting

13. Disposal

PACKAGING
Your appliance has been packaged to protect it from damage during transport.
The packaging is made of materials that can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner and recycled properly.

Observe the following packaging material label regarding waste separation with the abbreviations (a) and numbers (b):
1–7: plastics/20–22: paper and cardboard/80–98: composite materials (Only for France)

The “Triman” symbol tells the consumer that the product can be recycled, is covered by an extended system of manufacturer’s responsibility and must be sorted by material type in France.

(Spain only)
This symbol indicates disposal according to the type of packaging material used (blue = paper and cardboard; yellow = plastic, metal, composite packaging; green = glass).
Use the disposal options available to you in your area.

APPLIANCE
Old appliances that carry the symbol illustrated may not be disposed of in ordinary household waste.
In accordance with Directive 2012/19/EU, the appliance must be disposed of correctly at the end of its service life.
This involves separating the materials in the appliance for the purpose of recycling as well as minimising the environmental impact and negative effects on human health.
Take old appliances to an electrical scrap collection point or a recycling centre.
