Frequently Asked Questions - L150E BROAN

What duct diameter should be used for the Broan L150E?
It is recommended to use a metal round duct of 8 inches (20.3 cm) diameter for optimal performance. Use the shortest and straightest duct runs possible.
Can I install the fan above a bathtub or shower?
Yes, provided it is connected to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) and the unit is marked as suitable. Never place the switch within reach of the bathtub or shower.
How to clean the Broan L150E fan?
First disconnect power. Remove the grille and clean it with a soft cloth and mild soap. For the fan, remove it from the housing after removing the lock nuts, then vacuum it with a dusting brush. Do not lubricate the motor.
The fan is making abnormal noise, what to do?
If the noise is excessive or unusual, disconnect power and contact customer service. Do not use the unit until the issue is resolved. If the motor bearings are noisy, replace the fan assembly.
What safety precautions should be taken during installation?
Turn off power at the panel before any intervention. Installation must be done by a qualified person in accordance with local codes. Use metal ducts only to reduce fire risk.
Can I use a speed control with this fan?
Yes, the fan can be controlled with a solid-state speed control. Follow the wiring instructions provided with the control and comply with all applicable codes.
How to install the fan in existing construction?
Use the provided hanger bars by attaching them to opposite sides of the housing, flipped so the housing is flush with the finished ceiling. Secure the bars to a 2x4 in. framework. The 8 in. round duct must be routed outdoors.
What to do if the grille is difficult to remove?
The grille is held by screws. Unscrew them completely. If it remains stuck, verify the screws are removed and pull gently. Do not use metal tools to avoid damaging the plastic.
Is the fan warranted?
Yes, Broan-NuTone offers a one-year warranty from the original purchase date, covering defects in materials or workmanship. Keep the proof of purchase for warranty service.
Can flexible ducts be used?
The manual recommends using only rigid metal ducts (8 in. round) to reduce fire risk. Flexible ducts are not mentioned as acceptable.

Ducting has a strong effect on the air flow, noise and energy use of the fan. Use the shortest, straighest duct routing possible for best performance, and avoid installing the fan with smaller ducts than recommended. Insulation around the ducts can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated airflow.

8-inch round rigid metal duct is recommended for best performance.
