NOTE: Two people are needed to ensure safe unpacking.
1
Place your speaker as illustrated on a clean, dry surface or on a carpet.
2
Successively open the two protective packages, then repeat steps 1 & 2 for the second speaker.
3
Take out the accessory case and keep it nearby. It will be needed for the installation of the stands.
Please note that only one of the two cases contains the welcome pack and the gloves needed to manipulate your speaker.
4
Take out the speaker while keeping the foams at the ends.

5
Place the speaker with the black foam down.
Put on the protective gloves for the next steps.
6
Remove the top foam and then remove the grille by sliding it up. Take the protective cover off the top of the speaker by about 10 cm.

Stereo placement

Clearance to rear wall:
Minimum = 30 cm
Recommended = 50 cm
Clearance to side wall:
Minimum = 40 cm
Recommended = 80 cm
For optimal placement of your speakers, follow these guidelines:
- Avoid rooms with too much reverberation, such as a room with tiles and no carpet or windows without curtains.
- The listening area should not be too close to the speakers: a minimum distance of 2m should be respected.
- If possible, place the speakers so that the sound spreads across the length of the room.
- Avoid placement in the corners of the room, which enhances the room's own resonance.
-
For a floorstander, leave a minimum of 40cm between the wall and the speaker. If necessary, adjust the placement of the speakers with respect to the rear wall. Generally, a placement close to the rear wall improves the low frequency response (at the expense of the image). On the contrary, a position far from the wall favors the reproduction of a wide and deep sound image (make some tests to find the best compromise in your listening room).
-
The Quatuor 40 is equipped with a back tweeter to increase sound spatialization. Perform various tests to find the best compromise depending on your wall covering.
Acoustic processing

The acoustics of your room greatly impacts your listening experience. An acoustic processing as shown will significantly enhance your experience. (Please contact a professional for a personalized study).
The 4 main areas to be addressed are:
The area on the floor between your speakers and your listening position: use a thick carpet to break up the acoustic bounce in front of the speaker.
The area between your speakers and the wall in front of your listening position: to break up the static waves, you can put a shelf full of books or your vinyl collection there, or even acoustic diffusers.
The 45^ area in front of the speakers: with the same idea of limiting acoustic rebound, you can place shelves filled with books or your vinyl collection, or even acoustic diffusers, just like in the previous area.
D The area behind your listening position: to limit the effect of rear echo, try using a thick curtain.
This type of installation allows you to gain in precision and sharpness, do not hesitate to do different tests to adjust your installation as well as possible. These are basic guidelines, only tests in real conditions will be truly conclusive.
Stereo amplifier
Use a good quality amplifier with sufficient power. It is better to use a powerful amplifier, which is less likely to distort, than to «push» a low-powered amplifier that will clip and risk damaging your speakers.
If the amplifier has several impedance outputs, prefer the 8 Ohms output
We recommend you: :
A 50 to 400 watt amplifier for the Quatuor 40
A 40 to 300 watt amplifier for the Cello 40^-1
A 30 to 150 watt amplifier for the Duetto 40^-H
These capacities are indicative for rooms from 15 to 70m^2 to enjoy a comfortable sound power and a good low frequency handling.
It is possible to choose less powerful amplifiers that focus on tone accuracy and sound image quality.
Ask a Hi-Fi professional for personalized advice and select the equipment best suited to your needs and musical preferences.
Connections
Types of connections & cables
The Magellan 40^th terminals are designed to accommodate different types of connections:
- Connection with stripped speaker cables
- Connection with fork-mounted cables
- Connection with cables mounted on banana plugs
The choice of cable is important for your audio system and should not be overlooked. An OFC cable preferably in single stranded copper with a minimum section of 2.5mm^2 is recommended.
For the connections, make sure to comply with the following figure while respecting the polarities.
The Duetto 40^TH , Cello 40^TH and Quatuor 40^TH speakers have two sets of terminals, offering the possibility of bi-wiring as shown on page 44.
A - Connection with stripped speaker cables
Unscrew the terminals to make room for the cable. Insert the cable in this hole and screw the terminal until the cable is firmly attached.
Carefully check that the jumpers are in place and securely fastened with the locking nut.
B - Connection with cables mounted on banana plugs
Place the banana plugs with the correct polarity on the dedicated terminals.
Carefully check that the jumpers are in place and securely fastened with the locking nut.
C - Connection with fork-mounted cables
Unscrew the lower terminals (1). Insert the forks and screw the terminals until the cable is firmly attached. (2)
Carefully check that the jumpers are in place and securely fastened with the locking nut.

Bi-wiring & bi-amping
This type of connection requires a specific setup of your terminals.
The upper terminals feed the mid/high range, the lower ones the low range.
Remove the two jumpers as follows:

1 Unscrew the terminals by 1cm. Then unscrew the nuts holding the jumpers.

3 Remove the jumpers and tighten the nuts.
NOTE: Keep the jumpers in the accessory case
Then connect the cables to the appropriate connectors:
Connection with stripped speaker cables

Connection with cables mounted on banana plugs

Connection with fork-mounted cables

Setup
Integrated stereo amplifier

MONO-WIRING connections
If the amplifier has several impedance outputs, prefer the 8 Ohms output.

Stereo pre-amplifier and stereo power amplifier

BI-WIRING connections
If your stereo power amplifier has 2 speaker outputs, you have the option of using bi-wiring, which consists in feeding the mid/high range and the low range of your speakers separately.
This approach improves the details of the sound image.
To do this, remember to remove the jumpers from the terminals as shown on the previous page. (See page 44)
Stereo pre-amplifier and stereo power amplifier (continuation)

Stereo pre-amplifier and 2 stereo power amplifiers

BI-AMPING connections
Bi-amping consists in supplying the medium/high frequency and low frequency parts of the speakers with two stereo blocks of identical power. By physically separating the amplification like this, you can provide greater precision and clarity to your soundstage. Be sure to remove the jumpers from the terminals as described on page 44.

Stereo pre-amplifier and 4 mono power amplifiers

BI-AMPING connections
Attached is a figure of bi-amping connections using 4 mono power blocks. By physically separating the amplification like this, you can provide even greater precision and clarity to your soundstage. Be sure to remove the jumpers from the terminals as described on page 44.

Positioning

The classic setup of a 5.0 system consists of several components:
- Two main speakers left and right (FRONT)
-A central channel (CENTER) - Two rear speakers (SURROUND)
It is possible to add a subwoofer to have a more spacious sound and create a 5.1 system. However, it is recommended to test the 5.0 configuration first, as the 40th floorstanders have been designed to reproduce a wide spectrum in the low frequencies that should be sufficient.
For optimal placement of the main speakers, make sure to follow the figure above.
It is recommended to place the rear channels at a height of 1.5 and 2 meters. These channels help to create an atmosphere. Be sure to use a mounting system suitable for the weight of the speakers.
Home-theatre amplifier
We recommend a good quality amplifier with sufficient power. It is better to use a powerful amplifier, which is less likely to distort, than to push a low-powered amplifier that will clip and risk damaging your speakers.
You will find below a typical connection figure:

Speaker maintenance
The included microfiber cloth is all it takes to make your speakers shine again. However, if you wish to use a cleaning product, it is preferable to apply it beforehand on your microfiber cloth to avoid a direct application on the woodwork.
- Do not apply anything to the speaker membranes and use only the microfiber cloth to carefully remove any dust.
We recommend that you do not press on the membranes, as this may damage them.
- Do not hesitate to put the magnetic covers back on when you are not using your speakers to protect them from the sun or other everyday hazards.
- Choose an optimal location for your speakers (See page 40) and avoid direct and prolonged exposure of your speakers to sunlight, which can alter paint and lacquer.
- To preserve the lacquer of the speakers, install them away from heat sources such as radiators, stoves, or other heat-producing appliances.
- For an extended period, we recommend that you put the protective covers on your Magellan 40 "speakers to protect them from light or any other damage.
Burn-in
The drivers used in MAGELLAN 40^th speakers are mechanical elements that require a period of adjustment to work at their best and to adapt to the temperature and humidity conditions of your environment.
This running in period varies according to the conditions encountered. We recommend that you run your speakers for about 20 consecutive hours, either from a different music source or from a specially designed run in CD, to perform a complete scan of the sound frequencies.
After this prolonged and optimized listening, the speaker will be stabilized, and you will be able to fully enjoy its performance.
