During installation, ensure safe isolation between the mains voltage and Ethernet as well as between Ethernet and DALI. The DALI control voltage (B) is a functional extra-low voltage (FELV). The Ethernet cable (F) is a SELV power circuit. This wire must be separated from mains voltage cables and from the DALI bus by safe separation measures (e.g. with horizontal and vertical separators).

Homematic IP HmIP-P-DRG-DALI - Hazard information - 9

The network terminals may be used only for connecting the power supply to the device or for connecting loads to the device. The connection (looping through) of conductors via the network terminals of the device to other devices is not permitted!

Homematic IP HmIP-P-DRG-DALI - Hazard information - 10

The circuit to the which the device and the load will be connected has to be secured by a cable protection switch in accordance with EN60898-1 (tripping characteristic B or C, max. 16 A rated current, min. 6 kA interrupting rating, energy limiting class 3). 3 Function and device overview

The Homematic IP DALI gateway is easy to mount on a DIN rail in a power distribution panel. Once installed, DALI lights around the home can be assigned to the gateway's channels. Various lighting groups can then be set up via the Homematic IP smartphone app or CCU3, so that for example the lights can be conveniently switched via paired wireless buttons or wireless remote controls, or optionally via the Homematic IP smartphone app. A total of up to 32 DALI lights can be controlled and also combined into as many as 16 groups.

The DALI gateway enables the use of the following DALI types:

  • Fluorescent lamps (DT0)
  • Discharge lamps (DT2)
  • Low-voltage halogen lamps (DT3)
  • Dimmer for incandescent lamps (DT4)
  • Conversion to DC DC (0–10V, DT5)
    • LED modules (DT6)
  • Switching function (DT7)
  • Colour and colour temperature control (DT8)*
    • DALI emergency lighting not supported

* Colour and colour temperature configurable only with DT8

Homematic IP HmIP-P-DRG-DALI - Installation instructions - 2

Please note! Only to be installed by persons with the relevant electro-technical knowledge and experience!*

Incorrect installation can endanger

  • your own life,
    • and the lives of other users of the electrical system.

Incorrect installation also means that you are running the risk of serious damage to property, e.g. from fire. You risk personal liability for personal injury and property damage.

Consult an electrician!

\*Specialist knowledge required for installation:

The following specialist knowledge is particularly important during installation:

  • The “5 safety rules” that must be applied: Disconnect from the mains; Safeguard against switching on again; Check that system is deenergised; Earth and short circuit; Cover or cordon off neighbouring live parts;
  • Select the suitable tool, measuring equipment and, if necessary, personal safety equipment;

• Evaluation of measuring results;
- Selection of electrical installation material for safeguarding shut-off conditions;
• IP protection types;
• Installation of electrical installation material;
- Type of supply network (TN system, IT system, TT system) and the resulting connecting conditions (traditional zero balancing, protective earthing, required additional measures etc.).
