Frequently Asked Questions - DU1093 KENMORE

How do I empty the dust bin of my Kenmore DU1093 vacuum?
To empty the bin, press the dust bin release button to remove it from the main body. Place it over a trash can, press the lid release button to open the bottom, and empty the contents. Shake the bin to dislodge debris from the pre-filter, then reinstall it by clipping it into place.
How do I clean the filters on my Kenmore DU1093 vacuum?
Remove the dust bin, then take out the foam and felt filters. Wash them in cold water only (no detergent), squeeze them by hand, and let them air dry for 24 hours before reinstalling. Never wash them in the dishwasher and do not install them wet.
How do I replace the belt on the Kenmore DU1093 vacuum?
Unplug the vacuum and lay it on its back. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six screws from the belt cover and bottom plate. Remove the old belt, clean debris, then install a new belt around the motor shaft and brush roll. Reassemble by aligning the tabs and snapping the plate. Screw in without overtightening.
What should I do if the suction on my Kenmore DU1093 is weak?
First check if the dust bin is full or clogged. Next, inspect the filters (foam and felt): if dirty, clean or replace them. Also check that the suction control is closed (slid to the left). If the problem persists, see if the hose or accessories are blocked (see dedicated question).
How do I unclog the hose on my Kenmore DU1093 vacuum?
Unplug the vacuum. Remove accessories and detach the flexible hose by pressing the release buttons at both ends. Visually check and use a long object (without forcing) to remove any blockage. For the connecting hose, unscrew the retaining screw, remove it, and clean. Reassemble.
The brush roll is not spinning, what should I do?
Make sure the vacuum is on and the belt is in good condition. If the belt is worn or broken, replace it (see procedure). Also check that the brush roll is not blocked by debris or hair. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
How do I use the 3-in-1 multi-purpose tool?
Attach the tool to the end of the hose or wand. You can use it in three modes: crevice tool (narrow spaces), dusting brush (slide the brush side out), and furniture brush (press the release button and slide the head). Refer to the usage chart on page 14 of the manual.
How do I adjust the brush height for different floor types?
Turn the height adjustment selector located on the floor nozzle. Settings are: Low (bare floor), Med Low (short pile carpet), Med High (medium or thick carpet), High (long pile carpet or rugs). Incorrect adjustment may damage the floor.
My Kenmore DU1093 vacuum shuts off by itself, why?
This may be due to a clog that triggers the bypass valve, or a plug that is partially disconnected. Check the dust bin, filters, and hose. If the motor overheats, the valve opens: clean the air passages. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
What accessories are included with the Kenmore DU1093 vacuum?
The vacuum comes with: a flexible hose, an extension wand, a 3-in-1 multi-purpose tool (crevice tool, dusting brush, furniture brush), and a Pet HandiMate accessory. All store on the vacuum.

PERFORMANCE/SAFETY FEATURES

BY-PASS VALVE

This vacuum cleaner has a By-Pass Valve which prevents the motor from overheating and damage. The valve opens to provide cooling air when a clog prevents normal air flow to the vacuum cleaner suction motor. You will notice a change of sound as air rushes through the valve opening.

To correct the problem: remove any clogs, check and replace filters if needed, check and empty dust cup if needed.

NOTE: The By-Pass Valve may open when using attachments or when cleaning new carpet due to reduced airflow or air path is blocked, caused by the attachments themselves or by new carpet lint filling the dust cup quickly.

HAIR ELIMINATOR™ BRUSHROLL

For best performance, the floor nozzle is equipped with a hair eliminator™ brushroll, which prevents build-up of hair, string and other debris on the brushroll. To remove any hair wrapped around the brushroll, simply continue vacuuming, allowing the brushroll to automatically remove the hair wrap and send it to the dust cup.

KENMORE DU1093 - HAIR ELIMINATOR™ BRUSHROLL - 1

text_image Comb Teeth

NOTE: Always keep the brushroll free of carpet fiber, string, or hair build-up to maintain a longer life of the brushroll belt. If for some reason the brushroll does become entangled by any string or hair, stop using the vacuum and clean the brushroll immediately.

KENMORE DU1093 - HAIR ELIMINATOR™ BRUSHROLL - 2

CAUTION

Moving parts! To reduce the risk of personal injury, DO NOT touch the brushroll when vacuum is on. Contacting the brushroll while it is rotating can cut, bruise or cause other injuries.

SUCTION CONTROL

To assist with push/pull force of the vacuum on surfaces like thick carpet, the suction control valve can be opened to help reduce suction. Note that for best cleaning results, the suction control valve must be fully closed.

  • Slide to right to open the suction control and decrease suction. Opening control decreases suction for draperies and lightweight rugs.
  • Slide to left to close the suction control and increase suction. Closing control increases suction for upholstery and carpets.
