Frequently Asked Questions - 301303 CSL

How to use the CSL 301303 cable tester?
Connect the cable to be tested to the main tester and the remote tester. Set the selector to ON for normal test or S for slow test. The LEDs light up for each connected wire (1-8) and for shielding (G). If an LED does not light up, the cable is defective.
What types of cables can I test with this tester?
This tester supports RJ45 (network) and RJ12/RJ11 (telephone/ISDN) cables. It tests continuity and shielding.
What battery should I use for the CSL 301303 tester?
The device operates with a 9V battery (type 6LR61 or 6F22). Insert it into the compartment on the back of the main tester.
What should I do if an LED does not light up during the test?
This indicates that the corresponding wire is cut or poorly connected. Check the wiring and connectors. If several LEDs are missing, the cable may be damaged.
Can I use this tester outdoors?
No, the device is designed for indoor dry use. Protect it from moisture, rain, and snow.
How do I open the battery compartment?
The compartment is located on the back of the main tester. Slide the cover or remove the screw depending on the model. Connect the clip to the 9V battery before closing.
What does the delivery of the CSL 301303 tester include?
The delivery includes: main tester, remote tester, a wire stripper, a crimping tool, an LSA punch-down tool, and the user manual.
How to test the shielding of a cable?
Ensure the cable is shielded and the connector is properly grounded. The LED marked G should light up if the shielding is continuous.
What should I do if the tester does not turn on?
First check the battery: make sure it is properly connected and charged. If the problem persists, contact customer service.
How to recycle the CSL 301303 tester?

1. Scope of supply

• RJ45 / RJ11 network cable tester
- Stripper
- Crimping tool
- LSA insertion tool
- User manual for the cable tester

2. Function

You can check whether your network cable or ISDN cable is working using the cable tester. The cable tester allows you to test the pin assignment and the cable shielding easily.

3. Initial use

Take the device out of the package and remove all the packaging material. Open the battery compartment located at the rear of the main unit. Connect a 9V battery to the battery clip and insert it into the battery compartment. Then close the cover of the battery compartment.

The following figure shows the cables that can be tested:

RJ45 RJ 12/RJ11

Connect the cable to the main unit and to the remote unit and then switch on the device. You can select between two different speeds for the cable test. To test a cable test in normal speed, put the selector switch to "ON" position. If you put the selector switch to "S" (slow), the cable test is carried out at reduced speed. The "OFF" position switches the device off.

The measurement result is displayed simultaneously on the main unit as well as the remote unit during the cable test. During the measurement process, the network cable tester continuously tests the wires 1-8, and "G" additionally in case of shielded cables, and indicates whether the respective wires have contact between the connected wire ends and whether the signal is being conducted further.

In case of a fully allocated cable with standard pin assignment and shielded connectors, all the LED pairs should glow one after the other. If any wire is faulty, then the corresponding LED pair does not glow.
