Frequently Asked Questions - SOL100F VELLEMAN

How to install the SOL100F solar panel?
Mount the panel horizontally or vertically with the junction box facing up. Orient it south with a tilt of 0 to 20°. Use a location with little shade. Cover the panel with an opaque material during installation to avoid the risk of electric shock.
What type of cable should I use to connect the panel?
Use a UV-resistant cable with a cross-section of 2.5 to 4 mm², such as Velleman SOL/SPC3 cables (not included). Connect the negative terminal to the negative terminal of the charge controller, and the positive terminal to the positive terminal.
Can I connect multiple SOL100F panels together?
Yes, you can connect them in parallel to increase current (same voltage) or in series to increase voltage. In series, connect the positive terminal of one panel to the negative terminal of the next. Ensure the total voltage does not exceed 600 VDC.
How to clean and maintain the solar panel?
The panel requires no specific maintenance. Keep it clean and rinse it with fresh water, especially in a marine environment to prevent salt crystal formation. Check connections and mounting regularly.
What safety precautions should be taken?
Never disconnect a panel under load. During installation, cover the panel with an opaque material (cardboard) to avoid electric shock. Work in dry conditions. Have a qualified technician perform the installation if necessary.
What is the maximum system voltage for this panel?
The maximum system voltage is 600 VDC. Do not exceed this value when connecting in series.
Is this solar panel suitable for seaside use?
Yes, but protect the installation against humidity to prevent corrosion. Apply Vaseline to cables and terminals, and rinse the panel regularly with fresh water.
What is the warranty for the Velleman SOL100F solar panel?
The warranty is 24 months for consumer products, from the date of purchase. It covers manufacturing and material defects. See the manual for detailed terms.
How to check the panel's performance?
Use a suitable charge controller to measure voltage and current. The nominal specifications are: Pmax 100 W, Vmp 17.6 V, Imp 5.72 A. Power tolerance is ±5%.
Can I use the panel without a charge controller?
No, a charge controller is necessary to protect the battery from overcharging and excessive discharge. Always connect the panel to the controller before use.

2. Safety Instructions

VELLEMAN SOL100F - Safety Instructions - 1

Read and understand this manual and all safety signs before using this appliance.

VELLEMAN SOL100F - Safety Instructions - 2

Caution, risk of electric shock.

Photovoltaic modules generate DC current when exposed to sunlight or other light sources. Although a single module produces only low voltage and current, shocks and burns are still a potential hazard. The shock hazard increases as modules are connected in series. Cover the whole front of the module with a dense opaque material such as cardboard when installing and handling the module. Work under dry conditions only.

Make sure you fully understand the instructions before installing the module. Contact a qualified technician if in doubt.

This device can be used by children aged from 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the device in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the device. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.

Never disconnect a module under load.

Install the module horizontally or vertically with the connection box at the top. The solar module should be facing south at an angle of 0-20^ . Bear in mind that if the solar module is cast in shadow, its power output will drop considerably. Choose a location for the module with as little shade as possible.

Do not use sharp metal tools or any other tools that can scratch the surface of the module.

3. General Guidelines

4. Connection

4.1 Tips

  • Use suitable connection cables – preferably UV-resistant cables with section 2.5-4 mm ^2 – depending on the length of the cables and the size of the panel. We recommend using the Velleman SOL/SPC3 cables (not included).
  • Connect the negative pole of the panel to the negative pole of the charge controller (not included). Similarly, connect the positive pole of the panel to the positive pole of the charge controller.

4.2 General

  • Coat the wires and terminal posts with Vaseline ^ to protect them from corrosion.
    • Make sure the connection box is tightly closed to prevent moisture from entering.
  • If the solar module is to be mounted in a coastal area, it is extra important to protect the installation from moisture to prevent saltwater corrosion.

4.3 Schemes

Single-Panel Connection

The solar module should be connected to a battery system via a charge controller.
