How to clean my VOX AC4C1 amplifier?

Use a soft dry cloth. Never use liquid or abrasive products.

What tubes does the AC4C1 use?

Can I connect an external speaker?

Yes, via the EXTERNAL SPEAKER output. Only use a 16 Ω speaker with a power rating of at least 4 watts. The internal speaker is then disabled.

What type of cable should I use for the external speaker?

Use an unshielded speaker cable (not a shielded jack cable). Turn off the amplifier before connecting.

How to get a saturated sound?

Increase the Gain control beyond 12 o'clock and raise the Volume to saturate the power stage. The class A amp provides pleasant distortion at low volume.

What is the required mains voltage?

The voltage is indicated on the back panel of the amplifier. Check it before any connection. Use only the supplied cable.

Can I use this amplifier in a different country?

It is designed for the country of purchase. Using it elsewhere can be dangerous and void the warranty. Check compatibility.

What to do if the amplifier does not turn on?

Check the power cable, the mains socket and the fuse (located on the back panel). If the problem persists, contact after-sales service.

How to set the sound for a rock style?

Set the Gain to around 2 o'clock, Bass to halfway, Treble to 3/4, and adjust Volume to desired level. Be inspired by the Top Boost circuit.

Can I use effect pedals with the AC4C1?

Yes, connect your pedals between the guitar and the INPUT. The amp responds well to distortion and modulation pedals.

Designed to give you rocking tone without waking the neighbours, the AC4C1's class A power stage can be cranked to stadium tour saturation levels without leaving your sitting room or home studio! A luxury which is hard to find in an all-tube amp.

Using the same tube compliment and circuit topology as the original “Top Boost” preamp circuit design, the AC4C1 will give you the unmistakable VOX tone that is loved and desired by VOX fans and tone-chasers the world over!

FRONT PANEL LAYOUT

1. INPUT JACK Insert your guitar here!
2. GAIN This controls the preamp volume and will determine the amount of preamp distortion. For a clean sound, the knob should be set somewhere before 12 o'clock and for more distortion... crank it!
3. BASS This controls the low frequencies in your sound—from thin and light when turned down (counter clockwise) to warm and fat when turned up full (clockwise) and all points in-between.
4. TREBLE This controls the high frequencies in your sound—from soft and smooth when turned down (counter clockwise) to bright and cutting when cranked (clockwise) and all points in-between.
5. VOLUME This controls the overall volume of your amplifier and because this is a single ended, class A design it will also have an effect on the amount of distortion in the power amp.
6. POWER SWITCH This turns the amp on and off!
7. INDICATOR This will tell you if your amp is on or off!

REAR PANEL LAYOUT

NOTE: Use only the power cable that is included with the AC4C1. Using another power cable may cause malfunctions.

The specific mains input voltage rating that your amplifier needs to run at is located on the rear panel of your amplifier. Before making any connections or powering up the amplifier, make sure the correct voltage is set. If you have any doubt, refer to your local VOX dealer.

2. EXTERNAL SPEAKER OUT

This is used to connect the AC4C1 to any 16ohm cabinet.

NOTE: When an external cabinet is connected, the internal speaker is disconnected.

WARNING: To ensure that your system works correctly, you must observe the following points.

a) Don't use an external cabinet whose impedance is other than 16 ohms.
b) Don't connect a speaker whose rated input capacity is less than 4 Watts. The speaker may be destroyed if you ignore this caution—not recommended!
c) You must use a speaker cable to connect an external speaker. Don't use a shielded cable like the one you use to connect a guitar to an amp.
d) You must turn off the power before connecting the cable. Connecting the cable while the power is turned on may damage your amp.

NOTE: It is recommended that all audio cables, with the exception of the speaker lead, used to connect to the AC4C1 of a high quality, screened type. These should not exceed 10 metres in length. Always use a non-screened VOX approved speaker lead with the AC4C1 Amplifier and external cabinets.
