Frequently Asked Questions - Basic S6 HAMA

How many sheets can I shred at once?

The Hama Basic S6 can shred up to 7 sheets of 70 g/m² paper or 6 sheets of 80 g/m² at the same time. Do not exceed this capacity to avoid jams.

Can I shred staples or paper clips?

Staples are accepted, but paper clips and other metal objects must be removed. Never insert paper clips, CDs, DVDs, or plastic cards (except credit cards with caution, but not recommended).

What should I do if the device does not start?

Check that the switch is in the ON/AUTO position, that the cable is properly plugged in, and that the outlet works. If the device has overheated, wait 25 minutes before turning it on again.

How to unblock the rollers in case of a jam?

Use the reverse (REV) function by sliding the switch. Alternate between ON/AUTO and REV about three times, then unplug the device and gently remove the jammed paper.

How often should I oil the rollers?

Oil the cutting rollers after each emptying of the container to extend the lifespan. Use Hama cleaning oil (ref. 113820) or a special cleaning sheet.

Can I use the device continuously?

No, the Hama Basic S6 is designed for a maximum of 2 minutes of operation, followed by a rest of at least 25 minutes to prevent overheating.

What does security level P-2 mean?

Level P-2 according to DIN 66399 corresponds to a 6 mm strip cut, suitable for common household documents. It provides protection against inadvertent reading but not against careful reconstruction.

How to clean the exterior of the device?

Unplug the device, then clean with a dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth and let it dry completely before plugging in again.

Can I shred credit cards or CDs?

The device is not designed for plastic cards (magnetic or chip) or CDs/DVDs. Inserting these objects may damage the cutting rollers.

Where can I find spare parts or accessories?

3. Installation/ Setup

Warning

• Only operate the product from a socket that has been approved for the device. The socketmustbeinstalledclosetotheproductandmustbeeasilyaccessible.
• Disconnect the product from the power supply using the On/Off switch – if this is not available, unplug the power cord from the socket.
• If using a multi-socket power strip, make sure that the total power consumption of all connected devices does not exceed the power strip's maximum through input rating.
• If you will not be using the product for a prolonged period, disconnect it from mainspower.

Note

- Set the product up on a level, horizontal and sufficiently stable surface.

• Route all cables so that there is no risk of tripping.

- Donotbendorcrushthecable.

- Protecttheconnectingcablefromhotsurfacesandsharpedges.

- Connect the power pack to a properly installed and easily accessible mains socket.

4.Operation

Note

• Be aware that the thickness of paper increases when it is folded, leading to the device's maximum page capacity being exceeded.
  • Always wait until one cutting operation is finished before starting the next one.
• Do not use the device continuously for more than 2 minutes at a time.
• Emptythecontainerregularlyinorderavoiddamagingthedevice.

4.1 Switchingthedeviceon

- Movetheoperatingswitch(2)tothe"On/Auto"position.

• The device is now ready for use.

4.2 Switching the device off

- Movetheoperatingswitch(2)tothe"Off"position.

4.3Shreddingpaper

• Insert the paper into the centre of the intake shaft (3). The cutting rollers switch on automatically.
• Let go of the paper. Once the cutting process is complete, the device switches itself offagain.

4.4 Forwards/ b ackwardsmode

Note

These modes are designed to release any blockages of the cutting mechanism.

• Move the slider switch (2) to the "REV" position. The rollers on the cutting mechanism now rotate in there reversed direction.
• Move the slider switch (2) alternately to the "ON/AUTO" position and the "REV" position. Repeat this process around three times.
• Then switch the device off - as described in 4.2 Switching the device off - and disconnectthemainsplug.
• Removetheblockedcutmaterialcarefullyfromtheintakeshaft(3).
• Reconnect the device - as described in 3. Installation/Setup - to the power supply.

5. Care and Maintenance

5.2Cleaningthedevice

• Switch the device off - as described in 4.2 Switching the device off - and disconnect themainsplug.
• Clean the device with a dry cloth. In cases of heavy soiling, the cloth can be dampened a little.
• Allow the device to completely afterwards.
• Reconnect the device - as described in 3. Installation/Setup - to the power supply.

• ApplytheHamacleanerforshredders(itemnumber: 113820)inseveralstripsontoa pieceofDINA4-sizepaper.
• Insert the paper into the centre of the intake shaft (3). The cutting rollers switch on automatically.
• Oncethecuttingprocessiscomplete, thedeviceisreadyforoperationagain.

• Insert the cleaning paper into the centre of the intake shaft (3). The cutting rollers switch onautomatically.
