How to program a reference color on the OD5009 sensor?
Set the selector switch to the desired output channel (Out1, Out2 or Out3). Set the tolerance switch to the desired resolution (1=low tolerance, 3=standard, 5=high). Press the Teach button until the function LED turns on. If it flashes, the intensity is too strong: tilt the sensor by 10 to 30° or adjust the distance.
How to adjust the color tolerance?
Use the rotary Tolerance switch on top of the sensor. Position 1: detection of fine shades; position 3: basic setting; position 5: detection of color families. After changing, programming must be redone.
What do the LEDs on the sensor mean?
The availability LED indicates power on. The function LED (Out/OK) lights up when the switching output is activated (color recognized). It flashes if the intensity is too high or too low during teaching.
How to connect the OD5009 sensor?
Disconnect the installation. Connect the sensor according to the wiring diagram: L+ (power supply), L- (ground), AT (synchronization), ET (external programming), Out(s) (outputs). Use an M12 connector. Respect the specified voltages.
What is the range of the sensor?
In direct reflection mode (object), the range is 12.5 mm. In reflex mode (with reflector), the range can reach several meters depending on the reflector used. For shiny objects, tilt the sensor by 10 to 30°.
How to use the AT input (synchronization)?
The AT input deactivates the sensor via an external signal. To deactivate: apply 12 V < AT < Umax. To activate: AT ≤ 2 V or leave unwired. Useful to avoid unwanted detections.
How to program the reference color via the ET input?
In RUN mode (ET ≤ 2 V or unwired), you can send a 0.5 ms pulse on ET to program the reference color for Out1. Hold the target color in front of the sensor during the pulse.
How to mount the sensor correctly?
Mount it to minimize lateral and vertical movements of the object. For transparent objects, use a reflector placed in front of the sensor. For shiny objects, tilt the sensor by 10 to 30° relative to the object.
What to do if the function LED flashes during teaching?
If it flashes, the received light intensity is too high. Tilt the sensor by 10 to 30° or increase the object/sensor distance (especially in reflex mode). If it does not light up at all, reduce the distance or use a larger reflector.
Can the sensor be used with multiple outputs?
Yes, the OD5009 model is available in versions with 1 or 3 switching outputs. For each output (Out1, Out2, Out3), you can program a different reference color and an individual tolerance. Repeat the teaching procedure for each channel.

The colour sensor detects coloured objects and materials without contact in diffuse-reflection or retro-reflective mode.

Mount the colour sensor in such a way that the object to be detected makes as little lateral and vertical movement as possible. Consider the specified sensing range.

Transparent objects can be better detected by means of a suitable reflector. Mount the reflector opposite the colour sensor so that the light beam strikes the centre of the reflector.

In the case of moving objects the direction of movement should be transverse to the sensor to achieve optimum repeatability (this only applies to sensors with a sensing range of 12.5 mm).

In the case of shiny object surfaces the sensor should be mounted at an angle of inclination of 10 ... 30° referred to the object.

Disconnect power and connect the sensor as indicated on the type label.

The input AT (activation trigger = synchronising signal) can be used for triggering the sensor via an external voltage signal.
