The amplitude of vibration produced by an object such as a speaker driver is proportional to the change of pressure generated as the wave moves through the medium which surrounds it (such as air). Therefore, the amplitude of a sound wave is commonly measured by its pressure level. The decibel is a non-dimensional, logarithmic scale to denote a relative change in the strength of a signal or wave. When placed in the context of sound pressure level; it measures the nominal threshold of human hearing, relative to the quietest sound audible to the human ear. The frequency of instances where a sound wave reaches its peak during a period of time is measured in Hz (hertz). This is the number of complete cycles per second. Human hearing is limited to frequencies between about 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz. Sensitivity and impedance Earphone sensitivity is measured in Sound Pressure Level (SPL). This is essentially a measurement of how loud or easily- driven a pair of earphones is. The sensitivity is also inuenced by the drivers’ coil impedance which varies over the frequency range. The higher the SPL and the lower the impedance the more easily driven your earphones will be.8 English Precautions Do not use the product in other ways than are described • in this manual. Handle with care at all times and protect from external • damage. Do not expose to heat, magnetism or cold, damp • environments. To clean: use a mild, antiseptic detergent. • Do not expose the cables and plugs to abnormal wear • and tear, e.g. by bending or pulling them. Avoid winding the cable too tightly. • Avoid dropping or strong impact. Always leave the sleeve • on for shock protection. Proper use The t-JAYS earphone model is suitable for many different areas of use. It is particularly suited to environments where you are likely to be disturbed by ambient noise, e.g. at airplanes, on trains, on the subway, at the gym or when you are studying. In short, whenever you want. Let nothing come between you and the full enjoyment of your music. Inserting and removing the earphones Turn the volume to minimum before insertion. • For best results, moisten the sleeves before insertion. • Holding the earphone at the rear, carefully insert the • sleeve while pulling up and out on the back of the ear. The earphone should seal deeply and comfortably in the ear canal. If the bass frequency response seems too feeble or if •9 English external noise has not been eliminated, try inserting the earphone deeper into the ear canal to obtain a better seal or try a different sleeve size. After use, remove carefully - avoid pulling the cable. •
There are two ways to wear the earphones, these are shown above. Cable runs downwards from ear.1. Cable runs upwards behind the ear and comes back 2. out in front of your head (A). You can also pull the cable around the back of your head (B), in which case secure the cable in place using the adjustment tube. This is an ideal way to wear your earphones at the gym, for example.
b10 English Cleaning Clean your earphones regularly using an antiseptic cloth or wipe. Keep sleeves free of wax and other build-up. Wax and dirt can adversely affect sound quality and can damage your earphones. Furthermore, ensure that no moisture penetrates the nozzle when cleaning as this may damage the delicate dynamic speakers inside the earphones. Changing the sleeves The sleeves can be removed by carefully sliding them off the earphones. When replacing, check that the sleeves’ rubber notches are securely fastened in the locking groove. Cleaning the mesh lter of the sound tube If the mesh lter on the front of the sound tube shows signs of clogging, carefully use a needle to clean it. Storing your t-JAYS earphones Always store your t-JAYS earphones in a dust- and damp-free environment. When traveling please use the JAYS travel case to protect your earphones. See the following steps for guidance on how to correctly place your earphones inside the travel case. (The travel case only comes with t-JAYS Three version.)11 English For your safety Hearing These earphones are very powerful. Listening at high volumes for prolonged periods can cause permanent hearing damage. Always listen at a low to moderate volume and remember to rest your ears once in a while. If your ears start ringing or aching, remove the earphones immediately in order to rest your ears. Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) has developed below noise exposure graph.12 English Trafc Your t-JAYS effectively isolate external noise.
