How to install the SA50 smoke detector?

Attach the base plate to the ceiling using the provided plugs or 3M double-sided tape. Place the detector on the plate and turn it clockwise to lock. Ensure it is at least 50 cm from walls and 60 cm from corners.

Where to install the smoke detector?

Install it on the ceiling, near bedrooms, on each floor, and in rooms where a fire could start. Avoid the bathroom, garage, near a fan or air conditioning, and places where temperature exceeds 40 °C or drops below -10 °C.

How to test the device?

Briefly press the test button. The red LED flashes and the alarm sounds. Never test with an open flame or cigarette.

What to do in case of alarm?

Consider it a fire unless proven otherwise. Evacuate immediately following your evacuation plan. If the cause is unknown, check the house. You can temporarily silence the alarm by pressing the test button.

How to replace the battery?

Turn the detector counterclockwise to remove it from its plate. Replace the old battery with a new CR123A (3V) battery, respecting polarity. Reinstall the detector and test it.

Which battery to use?

Use a 3V lithium battery type CR123A (capacity 1400 mAh). Do not dispose of the old battery with household waste: recycle it.

What does a beep every 40 seconds mean?

It is a low battery signal. Replace the battery as soon as possible. The detector will beep for at least 30 days.

How to clean the detector?

In dusty environments, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the sensor. Do not paint the detector or cover it.

What is the battery life?

The lithium battery lasts at least 10 years under normal conditions. After this period, replace the detector or the battery if it is removable.

What to do if the alarm sounds for no reason?

Check for steam, dust, or smoke. Clean the sensor. If the alarm persists, ensure the battery is good. If the problem continues, contact your supplier.

UMWELT:

The SA50 is a smoke detector set for discovery of fire in the first stage. If smoke develops, the SA50 will give a loud beep of at least 85dB (A). We advice to test the smoke detectors weekly using the test button on the detectors. Save this manual in a safe place or inside of the electricity meter cupboard.

RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION LOCATIONS FOR THE SA50:

• Install the first smoke detector near the bedroom. Ensure that it is placed so, if it would detect fire, at least one exit route would still be accessible. We recommend to place one alarm near each potential blockade of your exit route, so you are alerted before a fire would block off escape.
- Use multiple smoke detectors to increase safety and ensure an alert before the escape route is blocked.
• Install at least one smoke detector on each floor of your house.
• Install at least one smoke detector in each room where people smoke or where there is equipment that may potentially cause a fire.
- Smoke and heat will first move upwards towards the ceiling; after that the smoke and heat will travel horizontally.
• Install the detector on the ceiling. Except for rooms smaller than 1m, you should stay at least 50 cm away from the wall and 60cm from any corner. Smoke and heat do not gather in such corners, preventing the detector from alerting you on time.

DO NOT INSTALL IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS:

• The kitchen; Steam from cooking might give a false alarm.
• The shower or bathroom; water damp might cause a false alarm and the moist environment might damage the detector.
• The garage: The car exhaust might cause a false alarm.
• In front of a fan or nearby the exhaust of an air conditioner or heater.
• In a ceiling nook.
• In rooms where the temperature could reach below 0^ or beyond 40^ .
• Do not paint or otherwise cover this smoke detector.

IMPORTANT: For optimal operation, we recommend mounting the smoke detector on the ceiling. See also the installation instructions. If ceiling mounting is not possible, we recommend that you place the smoke detector in the middle of a wall. The installation location must be in the natural airflow of the room and free of side walls or slope.

INSTALLATION INFORMATION:

Use the plugs or the supplied 3M double-sided tape to attach the base plate to the ceiling.

If you want to attach it with screws, place the mounting plate at the desired installation location and mark where the holes need to be drilled. Drill two holes with a diameter of 5 millimetres. Push the plastic plugs into the holes. Insert the screws into the mounting bracket and screw firmly into the dowels. Place the smoke detector on the mounting plate and secure by turning clockwise.

USING, TESTING AND MAINTENANCE:

Normal condition:

When the smoke detector is in normal operation, the LED will light briefly approximately every 40 seconds. The moment the detector enters the smoke or fumes, the alarm will sound. When the smoke or fumes disappear, the alarm will automatically stop.

Alarm:

When the smoke concentration reaches the alarm point and the smoke detector detects smoke, the red indicator LED will flash and a loud alarm tone will be heard. In alarm status, the smoke detector generates at least 85dB(A) sound pressure. You can temporarily interrupt the alarm signal by pressing the test button. If the smoke concentration is still too high after about 9 minutes, the alarm signal will be heard again. Please always check your house in case of an alarm to exclude fire.

Testing:

It is recommended that you test the smoke detector every week. If you briefly press the test button, the red LED indicator will flash sequentially and signal tones will sound. These signal tones will stop automatically. Do not test the Smoke Alarm with candles, open flames, cigarettes or similar.

Low battery voltage:

If the battery voltage is too low, your smoke alarm's red LED indicator will flash once every 40 seconds and at the same time the alarm will beep once.

ATTENTION:

• If the cause of an alarm is unclear, assume it's caused by fire. Immediately evacuate the building.
• Keep the smoke detectors out of range of children.
• Protect against dust during rennovations. Without protection the smoke detectors will lose their functionality.

Maintenance:

The smoke detector is maintenance-free. In very dusty rooms they may be cleaned by vacuum.

PLAN AN ESCAPE ROUTE:

• Make a map and mark all locations of doors and windows and a possible escape route. Note that you may need an escape ladder on high floors.
• Ensure everyone in the house knows the sound the smoke alarms produce and regularly practice use of the escape route.
• Leave the house immediately according to the plan when hearing the alarm. Every second counts: so respond quickly. If you do not notice smoke or heat, check if everyone in the house is in a secure location.
• Do not open any doors without feeling wether the door is warm or if there is smoke coming from underneath the doors. If it is, do not open that door. If the door is cold, put your shoulder firmly against the door and open it a small amount to check for any heat or smoke first.
• If there is much smoke, keep low and take shallow breaths, preferably through a moist towel. Call the fire department as soon as you are safe outside.

BATTERIES:

The detector is supplied using a lithium battery. Under normal conditions the battery will last at least ten years. If the detector is about to need replacement, the smoke detector will make a beep sound every 40 seconds for at least 30 days. If the smoke detector does not function, please contact your supplier.

1. To replace the battery, detach the smoke alarm from the mounting bracket by twisting counterclockwise.
2. Remove the battery, and then install a new battery, matching the correct polarity markings. Type battery: 1x DC 3V (CR123A)
3. Mount the smoke detector onto the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise to lock the detector. And then test the alarm.

ENVIRONMENT:

Do not throw away used batteries, but recycle them using your local chemical depot. Product may not be thrown out as normal waste, but must be recycled as electrical waste.
