IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Read and understand all of the safety precautions, warnings and operating instructions in the Instruction Manual before operating or maintaining this power tool.
Most accidents that result from power tool operation and maintenance are caused by the failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing a potentially hazardous situation before it occurs, and by observing appropriate safety procedures.
Basic safety precautions are outlined in the "SAFETY" section of this Instruction Manual and in the sections which contain the operation and maintenance instructions.
Hazards that must be avoided to prevent bodily injury or machine damage are identified by WARNINGS on the power tool and in this Instruction Manual.
NEVER use this power tool in a manner that has not been specifically recommended by metabo HPT.

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situations which, if ignored, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situations which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury, or may cause machine damage.

SAFETY
GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING
Read all safety warnings and all instructions.
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
1) Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit.
Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet.
Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool.
Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use.
Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply.
Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.
Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off -position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool.
Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used.
Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
4) Power tool use and care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.
Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation.
If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
5) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.
This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
CUT-OFF MACHINE SAFETY WARNINGS
a) The guard provided with the tool must be securely attached to the power tool and positioned for maximum safety, so the least amount of wheel is exposed towards the operator. Position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating wheel.
The guard helps to protect operator from broken wheel fragments and accidental contact with wheel.
b) Use only bonded reinforced or diamond cut-off wheels for your power tool.
Just because an accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.
c) The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool.
Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fly apart.
d) Wheels must be used only for recommended applications. For example: do not grind with the side of cut-off wheel.
Abrasive cut-off wheels are intended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to these wheels may cause them to shatter.
e) Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct diameter for your selected wheel.
Proper wheel flanges support the wheel thus reducing the possibility of wheel breakage.
f) Do not use worn down reinforced wheels from larger power tools.
Wheels intended for a larger power tool are not suitable for the higher speed of a smaller tool and may burst.
g) The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool.
Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.
h) The arbour size of wheels and flanges must properly fit the spindle of the power tool.
Wheels and flanges with arbour holes that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.
i) Do not use damaged wheels. Before each use, inspect the wheels for chips and cracks. If power tool or wheel is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged wheel. After inspecting and installing the wheel, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating wheel and run the power tool at maximum no load speed for one minute.
Damaged wheels will normally break apart during this test time.
j) Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and shop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments.
The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtering particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
k) Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment.
Fragments of workpiece or of a broken wheel may fly away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.
1) Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
m) Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory.
If you lose control, the cord may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled into the spinning wheel.
n) Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop.
The spinning wheel may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control.
o) Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side.
Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.
p) Regularly clean the power tool's air vents.
The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.
q) Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials.
Sparks could ignite these materials.
r) Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants.
Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.
Kickback and related warnings
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the rotating wheel which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the wheel's rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel's movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions.
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.
a) Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up.
The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
b) Never place your hand near the rotating accessory.
Accessory may kickback over your hand.
c) Do not position your body in line with the rotating wheel.
Kickback will propel the tool in direction opposite to the wheel's movement at the point of snagging.
d) Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory.
Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.
e) Do not attach a saw chain, woodcarving blade, segmented diamond wheel with a peripheral gap greater than 10mm or toothed saw blade.
Such blades create frequent kickback and loss of control.
f) Do not "jam" the wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt to make an excessive depth of cut.
Overstressing the wheel increases the loading and susceptibility to twisting or binding of the wheel in the cut and the possibility of kickback or wheel breakage.
g) When wheel is binding or when interrupting a cut for any reason, switch off the power tool and hold the power tool motionless until the wheel comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the wheel from the cut while the wheel is in motion otherwise kickback may occur.
Investigate and take corrective action to eliminate the cause of wheel binding.
h) Do not restart the cutting operation in the workpiece. Let the wheel reach full speed and carefully re-enter the cut.
The wheel may bind, walk up or kickback if the power tool is restarted in the workpiece.
i) Support panels or any oversized workpiece to minimize the risk of wheel pinching and kickback.
Large workpieces tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the workpiece near the line of cut and near the edge of the workpiece on both sides of the wheel.
j) Use extra caution when making a "pocket cut" into existing walls or other blind areas.
The protruding wheel may cut gas or water pipes, electrical wiring or objects that can cause kickback.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES AND SYMBOLS
- Always use proper guard with grinding wheel.
A guard protects operator from broken wheel fragments.
- Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool warning label.
Wheels and other accessories running over rated speed can fly apart and cause injury.
- Hold power tools by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
Contact with a "live" wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the operator.
- ALWAYS wear ear protections.

Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
- NEVER touch moving parts.

NEVER place your hands, fingers or other body parts near the tool's moving parts.
- NEVER operate without all guards in place.
NEVER operate this tool without all guards or safety features in place and in proper working order. If maintenance or servicing requires the removal of a guard or safety feature, be sure to replace the guard or safety feature before resuming operation of the tool.
- Use right tool.
Don't force small tool or attachment to do the job of a heavy-duty tool.
Don't use tool for purpose not intended—for example—don't use circular saw for cutting tree limbs or logs.
- NEVER use a power tool for applications other than those specified.
NEVER use a power tool for applications other than those specified in the Instruction Manual.
- Handle tool correctly.
Operate the tool according to the instructions provided herein. Do not drop or throw the tool. NEVER allow the tool to be operated by children, individuals unfamiliar with its operation or unauthorized personnel.
- Keep all screws, bolts and covers tightly in place.
Keep all screws, bolts, and plates tightly mounted. Check their condition periodically.
- Do not use power tools if the plastic housing or handle is cracked.
Cracks in the tool's housing or handle can lead to electric shock. Such tools should not be used until repaired.
- Blades and accessories must be securely mounted to the tool.
Prevent potential injuries to yourself or others. Blades, cutting implements and accessories which have been mounted to the tool should be secure and tight.
- Keep motor air vent clean.
The tool's motor air vent must be kept clean so that air can freely flow at all times. Check for dust build-up frequently.
- Operate power tools at the rated voltage.
Operate the power tool at voltages specified on its nameplate.
If using the power tool at a higher voltage than the rated voltage, it will result in abnormally fast motor revolution and may damage the unit and the motor may burn out.
- NEVER use a tool which is defective or operating abnormally.
If the tool appears to be operating unusually, making strange noises, or otherwise appears defective, stop using it immediately and arrange for repairs by a metabo HPT authorized service center.
- NEVER leave tool running unattended. Turn power off.
Don't leave tool until it comes to a complete stop.
- Carefully handle power tools.
Should a power tool be dropped or struck against hard materials inadvertently, it may be deformed, cracked, or damaged.
- Do not wipe plastic parts with solvent.
Solvents such as gasoline, thinner benzine, carbon tetrachloride, and alcohol may damage and crack plastic parts. Do not wipe them with such solvents.
Wipe plastic parts with a soft cloth lightly dampened with soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- ALWAYS
wear eye protection that meets the requirement of the latest revision of ANSI Standard Z87.1.

- ALWAYS wear a mask or respirator to protect yourself from dust or potentially harmful particles generated during the operation.
- Keep the motor interior free of water.
- Proceed with cutting operation when full speed has been reached.
- Do NOT apply excessive force.
- Secure the workpiece and check that the workpiece is properly supported. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more securely than by hand.
- Take good care of the power tool and keep it clean.
- Store the wheels in the dry condition and keep away from the wet or damp location.
- Inspect the wheel before use, do not use chipped, cracked or otherwise defective products.

WARNING
Death or serious bodily injury could result from improper or unsafe use of the cut-off machine. To avoid these risks, follow these basic safety instructions:
- Always use proper guard with grinding wheel.
A guard protects operator from broken wheel fragments. - Accessories must be rated for at least the speed recommended on the tool warning label.
Wheels and other accessories running over rated speed can fly apart and cause injury.
To ensure safer operation of this power tool, metabo HPT has adopted a double insulation design. "Double insulation" means that two physically separated insulation systems have been used to insulate the electrically conductive materials connected to the power supply from the outer frame handled by the operator. Therefore, either the symbol "□" or the words "Double insulation" appear on the power tool or on the nameplate.
Although this system has no external grounding, you must still follow the normal electrical safety precautions given in this Instruction Manual, including not using the power tool in wet environments.
To keep the double insulation system effective, follow these precautions:
Only metabo HPT AUTHIZED SERVICE CENTER should disassemble or assemble this power tool, and only genuine metabo HPT replacement parts should be installed.
Clean the exterior of the power tool only with a soft cloth moistened with soapy water, and dry thoroughly. Never use solvents, gasoline or thinners on plastic components; otherwise the plastic may dissolve.

ASSEMBLY AND OPERATION
APPLICATIONS
Cutting sheet metal, concrete, cinder blocks, reinforcing rods, concrete wire mesh, corrugated floor and ceiling forms, etc.
PRIOR TO OPERATION
- Power source
Ensure that the power source to be utilized conforms to the power source requirements specified on the product nameplate.
- Power switch
Ensure that the switch is in the OFF position. If the plug is connected to a receptacle while the switch is in the ON position, the power tool will start operating immediately and can cause serious injury.
- Extension cord
When the work area is far away from the power source, use an extension cord of suffi cient thickness and rated capacity. The extension cord should be kept as short as practicable.


WARNING
Damaged cord must be replaced or repaired.
- Check the receptacle
If the receptacle only loosely accepts the plug, the receptacle must be repaired. Contact a licensed electrician to make appropriate repairs.
If such a faultly receptacle is used, it may cause overheating, resulting in a serious hazard.

Confirming condition of the environment: Confirm that the work site is placed under appropriate conditions conforming to prescribed precautions.

Fitting and adjusting the wheel guard
The wheel guard is a protective device to prevent injury should the cutting wheel shatter during operation. Ensure that the guard is properly fitted and fastened before commencing cutting operation. By slightly loosening the setting screw, the wheel guard can be turned and set at any desired angle for maximum operational effectiveness. Ensure that the setting screw is thoroughly tightened after adjusting the wheel guard.
- Cutting wheel
Ensure that the cutting wheel to be utilized is the correct type and free of cracks or surface defects. Also ensure that the cutting wheel is properly mounted and the wheel nut is securely tightened. Refer to the section on "Cutting Wheel Assembly".
- Conducting a trial run
Before commencing cutting operation, the machine should be given a trial run in a safe area to ensure that it is properly assembled and that the cutting wheel is free from obvious defects.
Recommended trial runs durations are as follows: After replacing
cutting wheel 3 minutes or more
Prior to starting
routine work.....1 minute or more
- Confirming the lock pin.
Confirrm that the lock pin is disengaged by pushing lock pin two or three times before switching the power tool on (See Fig.2).
PRACTICAL CUT-OFF MACHINE APPLICATION
- Cutting force
To prolong the life of the machine and ensure a first class finish. It is important that the machine should not be overloaded by applying too much force.
- Precautions immediately after finishing operation
After switching off the machine, do not put it down until the cutting wheel has come to a complete stop. Apart from avoiding serious accidents, this precaution will reduce the amount of dust and swarm sucked into the machine.
CAUTION
After operation, always place the machine so that the cutting wheel faces upward.
When the machine is not in use, the power source should be disconnected.
CUTTING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
- Assembling (Fig. 2, 3)
(1) Turn the machine upside down so that the spindle is facing upward.
(2) Mount the wheel washer onto the spindle.
(3) Fit the protuberance of the cutting wheel onto the wheel washer.
(4) Put the inner washer on the cutting wheel, and screw the wheel nut onto the spindle.
(5) Insert the lock pin to prevent rotation of the spindle, and tighten the wheel nut with accessory wrench, as shown in Fig. 3.

CAUTION:
After attaching the cutting wheel, check that the cutting wheel does not come into contact with wheel guard and base.
2. Disassembly
Follow the above procedures in reverse.
MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
WARNING
Be sure to switch power OFF and disconnect the plug from the receptacle during maintenance and inspection.
Using cracked, deformed or damaged wheels can lead to wheel breakage and resulting serious injury.
- Inspecting the cutting wheel
Ensure that the cutting wheel is free of cracks and surface defects.
- Inspecting the screws
Regularly inspect all screws and ensure that they are fully tightened. Should any of the screws be loosened, retighten them immediately.
WARNING
Using this cut-off machine with loosened screws is extremely dangerous.
- Maintenance of the motor
The motor unit winding is the very "heart" of the power tool. Exercise due care to ensure the winding does not become damaged and/or wet with oil or water.
- Inspecting the carbon brushes (Fig. 4)
The Motor employs carbon brushes which are consumable parts. When they become worn to or near the "wear limit", it could result in motor trouble. When an auto-stop carbon brush is equipped, the motor will stop automatically. At that time, replace both carbon brushes with new ones which have the same carbon brush Numbers shown in the figure. In addition, always keep carbon brushes clean and ensure that they slide freely within the brush holders.

- Replacing carbon brushes
Disassemble the brush caps with a slotted-head screwdriver. The carbon brushes can then be easily removed.
- Service and repairs
All quality power tools will eventually require servicing or replacement of parts because of wear from normal use. To assure that only authorized replacement parts will be used, all service and repairs must be performed by a metabo HPT AUTHIZED SERVICE CENTER, ONLY.
- Service parts list
CAUTION
Repair, modification and inspection of metabo HPT Power Tools must be carried out by a metabo HPT Authorized Service Center.
This Parts List will be helpful if presented with the tool to the metabo HPT Authorized Service Center when requesting repair or other maintenance. In the operation and maintenance of power tools, the safety regulations and standards prescribed in each country must be observed.
MODIFICATIONS:
