Remove, therefore, the rechargeable battery when the lamp is not required for any length of time. 102935 GB_IE_SE_DK_BE.indd 9 10/30/2014 5:36:16 PM10 GB/IE J Use protective gloves! Leaky or damaged recharge- able batteries could cause chemical burns upon contact with skin; that is why you should use suitable protective gloves. J Only use rechargeable batteries of the right size and of the recommended type (see section on ”Technical data”). J Ensure correct polarity. This is indicated in the battery compart- ment

J Rechargeable batteries should not be disposed of with domes- tic waste. Please dispose of used rechargeable batteries in an environmentally friendly way. J Always switch off the product before removing or inserting the rechargeable battery

Functioning The integrated solar cell

of the article converts solar radiation into electrical energy and stores it in the NiMH rechargeable bat- tery

. The light switches itself on when it starts to get dark. The integrated LED

is an energy-saving illuminant with a very long life. The burn time depends on the solar radiation, the angle of in- cidence of the light falling onto the solar cell

, and the tempera- ture (due to the temperature dependence of the capacity of the re- chargeable batteries). The ideal situation is a vertical angle. Given the best conditions, a burn time of 6–8 hours can be achieved. The rechargeable battery

will only achieve its maximum capacity af- ter several charging and discharging cycles. 102935 GB_IE_SE_DK_BE.indd 10 10/30/2014 5:36:16 PM11 GB/IE

Assembling and setting up the light (Fig.

j Install the light in accordance with Fig. A. j Place the light with the assembled rods into the ground (lawn, flower bed, etc). Note: Ensure that the product stands firmly in place. Do not use any force when assembling or setting up the product, e.g. hammer blows. This damages the product. Note: For the best results, put the light in a place where the solar cell

is exposed to direct sunlight for as long as possible. Do not put the light under bushes, trees, canopies etc. as this reduces the incidence of incoming sunlight. Position the lamp in such a way that the solar cell

is not covered or in the shade. Note: Make sure that the solar cell

is not near another source of light such as street or garden lighting as the light will otherwise not switch itself on automatically when it starts to get dark. j Switch the AUTO / OFF switch

on the bottom of the solar casing

into the AUTO or OFF position to switch the lamp on or off. Note: The LED light bulb

will automatically switch between the colours red, blue and green. Note: Switch the lamp off (OFF position) if the lamp will be in the dark for any length of time (e.g. when transporting it with a rechargeable battery

inserted) or the burn time is not satisfactory due to a very short incidence of light. j Open the solar casing

on the bottom of the solar casing

into the AUTO position to recharge the rechargeable 102935 GB_IE_SE_DK_BE.indd 11 10/30/2014 5:36:16 PM12 GB/IE battery

Changing the rechargeable battery Note: You will need a crosshead screwdriver for this step. j First push the AUTO / OFF switch

to the OFF position. j Take the decorative attachment

off the rod with the LED light bulb

j Pull the rod with the LED light bulb

j Open the battery compartment

on the bottom of the solar casing

. To do so, unscrew both screws using a crosshead screwdriver . j Remove the used rechargeable battery

j Insert a new rechargeable battery (NiMH, AA, 1.2 V / 600 mAh) into the battery compartment

Note: Ensure correct polarity. This is indicated in the battery compartment

j Close the battery compartment

. To do so, screw in both screws using a crosshead screwdriver . j When you close the case

, make sure that the cables are not pinched. j Place the rod with the LED light bulb

again. j Place the decorative attachment

back onto the LED light bulb

Trouble-shooting = Problem = Cause = Solution The light does not come on when it is dark, even though it was exposed to sunlight all day. Artificial sources of light such as street lighting or similar are making the Photosensor believe it is still daylight. Place the lamp somewhere where it is shielded from artificial sources of light. The lamp only comes on for a short time or not at all. The rechargeable battery

is flat or there is not enough daylight to recharge the rechargeable battery

Replace the rechargeable battery

or place the lamp in a sunnier position. This product has some very sensitive electrical parts. That is why interference may occur if the product is set up near devices that transmit radio signals. They include, among other things, mobile Phones, walkie-talkies, CCB radios, remote controls and microwave ovens. Remove these devices if interference occurs. Electrostatic discharge may possibly cause disturbances to the product. If such disturbances occur, remove the rechargeable battery

for a few seconds and then re-insert it (see “Changing the rechargeable battery”). 102935 GB_IE_SE_DK_BE.indd 13 10/30/2014 5:36:16 PM14 GB/IE
