Frequently Asked Questions - B1501A1HDMI Tripp Lite

How to install the B150-1A1-HDMI kit?
Ensure all devices are powered off. Connect the DisplayPort cable of the transmitter to the computer, then power the transmitter via the USB Micro-B cable. Connect the transmitter and receiver with a Cat5e/6 cable. Connect the HDMI cable of the receiver to the display, then power the receiver via the other USB Micro-B cable. Power on the source and display. Adjust equalization if necessary.
What is the maximum transmission distance?
Up to 38.1 m (125 ft) for 1080p resolution at 60 Hz, and up to 45.7 m (150 ft) for 1080i at 60 Hz.
What type of Cat5e/6 cable should I use?
Use a solid wire 24 AWG Cat5e or Cat6 cable, such as Tripp Lite's N202 series cables. Stranded or higher gauge cables reduce range.
Can I use an external power supply?
Yes, you can power the transmitter and receiver via a USB wall charger (e.g., models U280-002-W12 or UAC-1B). The supplied USB Micro-B cables must be connected.
What to do if no image appears?
Check that the USB Micro-B cables are properly connected and power is active. Ensure the computer and display are turned on. Reduce resolution or refresh rate. Adjust the equalization dial on the receiver.
Can I use patch panels between the transmitter and receiver?
It is not recommended to insert patch panels or other devices between the transmitter and receiver, as it degrades the signal. The kit is designed for direct connection.
Does the kit support audio?
Yes, it supports stereo sound. However, the DisplayPort source must be capable of transmitting audio. No additional audio cable is required.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in materials and workmanship. Visit Tripplite.Eaton.com for returns.
Can I use a standard HDMI cable with the receiver?
The receiver is equipped with an integrated HDMI cable with latch. You cannot replace it. For additional extensions, use a standard HDMI cable from the receiver, but this does not increase the system's range.
How to adjust equalization?
Use the provided screwdriver to turn the equalization dial on the receiver. Turn gently until a clear image is obtained. Improper adjustment may result in no display.

  • Display with an HDMI input port

*Audio support requires a DisplayPort source that is enabled to support audio.

Installation

Notes:

  1. Test to make sure the entire installation works properly before pulling cables through ceilings/walls.
  2. To achieve maximum distance and performance, 24 AWG solid-wire Cat5e/6 cable must be used. The use of stranded-wire Cat5e/6 cable or cable with a gauge size higher than 24 AWG will result in a shorter extension distance. N202-Series Cat6 cables are made with 24 AWG solid-wire cabling.
  3. Make sure the power to all connected devices is turned off prior to installation.

Note: An improper Equalization setting can result in no image being displayed at all. If an image is not displayed on your monitor, try adjusting the Equalization.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to get an acceptable image after following the installation instructions, try the troubleshooting tips below:

  1. Are the USB Micro-B cables that shipped with the product connected and plugged into a working power source? For the product to function properly, it must be connected to and receiving power from the USB Micro-B cables.
  2. Was the power to the DisplayPort source turned off prior to installation? If not, restart your computer.
  3. What resolution are you trying to reach? See the Product Features and Installation sections in this manual for details on maximum distance and resolution. The shorter the extension distance, the higher the resolution you will be able to obtain. If you are not able to receive an acceptable image, try lowering your computer's video resolution or adjusting the refresh rate.
  4. What type of cabling are you using? Inferior cabling can result in poor performance, so it is important you use cables that can support the video resolution you are trying to obtain. To achieve maximum distance and resolution, 24 AWG solid-wire UTP cable (such as N202-Series cables) must be used.
  5. Test your cables to ensure they are working properly.

For example, connect your Cat5e/6 cable between a computer and a network to verify that it establishes a network connection.

  1. Do you have any patch panels or other devices between the transmitter and receiver units? DisplayPort to HDMI over Cat5 Extender Kit is designed to connect directly from the transmitter to the receiver via UTP cable. The more connection points between the source and the remote monitor, the more likely signal degradation will occur, causing poor performance. If you have a patch panel or other device in between, it should be removed from the installation.

Troubleshooting

  1. Do you have a splitter, switch or other device between the computer and transmitter or between the receiver and display? DisplayPort to HDMI over Cat5 Extender Kit is designed for the transmitter to connect directly with the source computer and for the receiver to connect directly to the display. If you have a splitter, switch or other device in between, it should be removed from the installation.
  2. Check your cabling for any damage that may have occurred during installation. If a cable connector is loosened from being pulled through ceilings/walls or the cable jacket is damaged, causing the wiring to be exposed, you will not be able to achieve maximum performance.
  3. Are the transmitter and/or receiver units located in an area that exposes them to elevated temperatures? If the product is overheating, it will not function properly.
