How to charge the Metabo NP 18 LTX BL 5 battery?

Insert the battery into a compatible Metabo or CAS charger until it stops. The control light flashes during charging and stays on when charging is complete. Use only original chargers.

What is the charging time of the battery?

The time depends on the charger and battery condition. With a fast charger, an empty battery recharges in about 30 to 60 minutes for 5 Ah.

Can I use the battery with other tool brands?

Yes, the battery is compatible with all tools and chargers of the CAS (Cordless Alliance System), which includes several brands.

What does the flashing red light on the charger mean?

A rapid flash indicates a defective or improperly inserted battery. Remove it and check the contact. If the problem persists, the battery must be replaced.

Does the battery heat up during charging?

A slight temperature rise is normal. If it becomes very hot, the charger may reduce power or stop charging. Let it cool down before trying again.

How to store the battery long term?

Store it at partial charge (about 50%) in a dry place at moderate temperature (10-30°C). Do not let it fully discharge.

Does the battery have a memory effect?

No, Li-Ion batteries have no memory effect. You can recharge them at any time without fully discharging.

How to clean the battery?

Dust the contacts with a dry cloth. Do not use chemicals or water. Make sure the ventilation slots are clean.

Can I repair the battery myself?

No, the battery must not be opened. Any repair must be done by a Metabo authorized technician. For defective batteries, recycle them via collection points.

2. Specified Conditions of Use

Chargers are only suitable for charging original Metabo and CAS (Cordless Alliance System) battery packs.

This device is not designed for use by persons (including children) with physical, sensory or mental disabilities, or with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety, or have received instructions on how to use the device by this person.

ASC 290 is suitable for charging Li-iron battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells). The device is suitable for charging electronic devices with a USB-C interface (like smartphones, MP3 players, tablets, etc.) - no data exchange

ASC 145 is suitable for charging Li-lon battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging Li-ion battery packs (12 V - 36 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

ASC 55 is suitable for charging NiCd battery packs (12 V, 1.7 Ah, 10 cells).

SC 36, SC 30 is suitable for charging Li-Ion battery packs (12 V - 18 V, 1.3 Ah - 10 Ah, 3-10 cells).

Never attempt to charge batteries that are not rechargeable. Danger of explosion!

Danger - electrical voltage!

A slightly acidic, flammable fluid may leak from defective Li-ion battery packs!

If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. If battery fluid leaks out and comes into contact with your eyes, wash them with clean water and seek medical attention immediately! Do not recharge a fully charged battery pack!

6. Initial Operation

Before commissioning, check that the rated mains voltage and mains frequency stated on the type plate match your power supply.

Devices like these that generate direct current can influence simple earth leakage protection devices.

Use a type F or better, with a release current of max. 30mA

Before commissioning the charger, ensure that the air slots are free. Minimum distance to other objects is 5cm

6.1 Self-test

Plug in.

The warning display (4) and the operating indicator (3) light up one after the other for approx. 1 second and the installed fan runs for approx. 5 seconds.

7. Use

7.1 Charging battery pack

Push the battery pack completely to the stop on the sliding seat (2).

The operating indicator (3) flashes.

Note: To have the charge level displayed on Li-ion battery packs, first take the battery pack out of the charger and then press the button on the battery pack.

7.2 Conservation charge

Once the charging process has finished, the battery charger automatically switches to conservation mode.

The battery pack can remain in the battery charger and is therefore always ready for use.

The operating display (3) lights up continuously.

7.3 ASC 290 only: Charge USB device

Only connect USB devices which are compatible with the USB standard. Using compatible devices can lead to malfunctions, age or injuries.

Open the cover (6) and plug a USB device with a suitable cable into the USB-C port (7). The device is charged.

The USB-C port (7) is only supplied with voltage (LED indicator (8) illuminated) if no battery pack is charged.

If a battery pack and USB device are connected at the same time, the USB charging process will start automatically after the end of the battery pack charging process.

8. Faults

8.1 Warning display (4) lights up continuously

Battery pack is not charged. Excessive/insufficient temperature. When the temperature of the battery

pack is between 0^ and 50^ , the charging process begins automatically.

ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up continuously and charge status indicator (5) flashes: Charger is hot, or battery pack is cold or hot, battery pack is charged with reduced charging capacity.

8.2 Warning display (4) flashes

• Battery pack is defective. Remove the battery pack immediately from the charger.
• The battery pack was not pushed correctly onto the sliding seat (2). See chapter 7.1.
• ASC 290: Warning display (4) lights up and charge status indicator (5) is off: battery pack is not charged. charger too hot.

9. Repairs

Repairs to the charger must only be carried out by qualified electricians.

If the mains connection cable of this device is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or the Customer Service department of the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person to prevent endangering personnel and property.

10. Environmental Protection

Observe national regulations on environmentally compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused machines, packaging and accessories.
