DANGER to and from pets and livestock

Electrical devices can represent a danger to pets and livestock. In addition, animals can also cause damage to the device. For this reason you should keep animals away from electrical devices at all times.

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - DANGER to and from pets and livestock - 1

DANGER! Risk of electric shock due to moisture

  • Protect the device from moisture, water drops and water splashes: failure to observe this instruction may result in an electrical shock hazard.
  • If liquids get into the device, remove the mains plug immediately. Have the device checked before reusing.

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - DANGER! Risk of electric shock due to moisture - 1

DANGER! Risk of electric shock

  • Do not use the device if the device or the power cable has any visible damage, or if the device has previously been dropped.
  • Only connect the mains plug to a properly installed and easily accessible grounded wall socket whose voltage corresponds to the specifications on the rating plate. The wall socket must still be easily accessible after the device is plugged in.
  • Ensure that the power cable cannot be damaged by sharp edges or hot spots. Do not wrap the power cable around the device.
  • The device is not fully disconnected from the power supply, even after it is switched off. In order to fully disconnect it, pull out the mains plug.

  • When using the device, ensure that the power cable cannot be trapped or crushed.

  • When removing the mains plug from the wall socket, always pull on the plug and never the cable.
  • Disconnect the mains plug from the wall socket ...
... if there is a fault,
... when you are not using the coffee machine,

- In order to avoid any hazards, do not make modifications to the device.

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - DANGER! Risk of electric shock - 1

DANGER! Risk of injury through scalding

During the brewing process, hot steam escapes upwards through the cover. The cover becomes hot. Never touch it or put your hands or other body parts in the steam.
- Fill the coffee machine only to the maximum filling level (10 MAX), as hot water may otherwise spray out.
- Do not bend over the coffee machine when you open the holder and the contents are still hot. There is a danger of being scalded by escaping steam.

WARNING! Risk of material damage

The device is fitted with non-slip silicon feet. Because furniture can be coated with a wide variety of varnishes and plastics, and treated with various care products, the possibility cannot be excluded that some of these substances have components that may attack and soften the silicon feet. If necessary, place a non-slip mat under the device.
- Never put fluids other than fresh drinking water into the coffee machine!
- Place the device on a stable, level surface.
- Do not use any astringent or abrasive cleaning agents.

  2. This process should be repeated once.
  3. Wait until the coffee machine has cooled down. Then it is safe to use the device.

7. Operation

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - Operation - 1

DANGER! Risk of injury through scalding!

  • During the brewing process, hot steam escapes upwards through the cover 14. The cover 14 becomes hot. Never touch it or put your hands or other body parts in the steam.
  • Fill the coffee machine only to the maximum filling level (10 MAX), as hot water may otherwise spray out.

WARNING! Risk of material damage!

  • Fill in water at least up to the 2 marking on the water level indicator 13. Otherwise the device may overheat.
  • Never put fluids other than fresh drinking water into the coffee machine.

7.1 Anti-drip

The filter holder 4 has an anti-drip valve 5. This ensures that no coffee drips out of the filter when you remove the pot 8.

In order to ensure that the anti-drip valve 5 opens during the brewing process, it is important that the filter holder 4 is inserted correctly and the pot 8 with its lid 12 closed is positioned completely in the coffee machine. The fitted lid 12 of the pot 8 opens the anti-drip valve 5. Otherwise the filter can overflow.

7.2 Opening and closing the lid

In order that the appliance can work correctly, it is important that the pot 8 is placed in the coffee machine and that the lid 12 is closed.

7.3 Filling volumes

Always fill the water tank 6 at least up to the marking for 2 cups (2). Do not fill with water above the 10 MAX marking in the water tank.

7.4 Brewing coffee

  1. Open the lid 14 of the water tank 6.
  2. Only fill fresh, cold tap water into the water tank 6. Hot or carbonated water can result in malfunctions.
Fill the water tank 6 with water up to the desired marking (maximum 10 cups: 10 MAX).
  3. Close the lid 14 of the water tank 6.
  4. Hold the filter holder 4 by its handle 3 and lower it into the the coffee machine.
  5. Fold down the handle 3 of the filter holder 4.
  6. Place the permanent filter 2 into the filter holder 4.
  7. Place ground coffee powder into the permanent filter 2. For medium-strength

coffee, put one coffee spoon (around 7 - 8 g) of ground coffee powder per cup into the filter. Use ground coffee powder for filter coffee. If you grind the coffee yourself, grind it to a medium grinding degree.

NOTE: you can also use a paper filter. In this case, the permanent filter 2 must not be inserted, however. Place a paper filter (size 1x4) with folded sides directly into the filter holder 4. When it is folded, the paper filter fits better in the filter holder 4 and the seams are prevented from tearing.

  1. Close the cover 14.
  2. It is very important that the pot 8 has a closed lid 12 when it is placed on the hot plate 9.
  3. Press the button ⏻ 10. The button lights up. The brewing process will start after a short time.
  4. After the end of the brewing process, the hot plate 9 remains active for approx. 40 minutes, and the button ⏻ 10 flashes approx. every 2 seconds. The hot plate 9 then switches itself off and the ⏻ 10 button goes out.

NOTE: by pressing the ⏻ 10 button, you can cancel the brewing process and switch off the hot plate 9 sooner at any time.

8. Cleaning

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - Cleaning - 1

DANGER! Risk of electric shock!

  • Pull out the mains plug 11 from the wall socket before cleaning the coffee machine.
  • The coffee machine and the power cable with mains plug 11 must not be immersed in water or other liquids.

SILVERCREST SKMK 1000 A2 - DANGER! Risk of electric shock! - 1

DANGER! Risk of injury through scalding!

- The coffee machine becomes very hot during operation. Allow it to cool down before cleaning.

WARNING! Risk of material damage!

- Do not use any astringent or abrasive cleaning agents.

NOTE: in order to start the brewing process with clear water or a descaling solution, the filling of the water tank 6 must not exceed the 8 cup marking. Otherwise the pot 8 may overflow.

8.1 Dishwasher

The coffee spoon and the filter holder 4 can be cleaned in the dishwasher.

8.2 After every use

Clean the device after every use, if possible.

  1. Pull the mains plug 11 out of the wall socket.
  2. Open the cover 14.
  3. Only for the permanent filter 2: open the handle 1 of the permanent filter, remove the permanent filter and rinse it out under running water.
  4. Fold up the handle 3 of the filter holder 4 and remove the filter holder.

  5. Only for paper filters: dispose of the used paper filter.

  6. Rinse out the filter holder 4 with warm water.
  7. Rinse the pot 8 and its lid 12 with clear water. Only in the case of stubborn residues should you use a little mild detergent and a soft rinsing brush. Then rinse all parts thoroughly with clear water.
  8. Wipe down the coffee machine and the power cable 11 with a damp cloth when required. Dry with a dry cloth.
  9. Allow all parts to dry completely before you put them away or use the device again.

8.3 Descaling

Time intervals for descaling

The intervals for descaling are dependent on the hardness of the water, and how often you use the device. Where the hardness of the water is medium or high, we recommend descaling monthly.

If using tap water, you can find out the hardness of the water in the area where you live by inquiring at your local waterworks.

After some time, the boiling process will result in limescale being deposited in parts of the coffee machine (depending on the hardness of the water used). You should remove this at regular intervals, because otherwise the power consumption of the device will increase.

  1. Turn off the coffee machine and allow it to cool down completely.
  2. Place the descaling agent into the water tank 6. Use a liquid, environmentally friendly descaling agent based on citric acid, and follow the instructions of the manufacturer.
  3. Fill the water tank 6 to the 8 cup marking.
  4. Close the cover 14 of the water tank 6.

  5. It is very important that the pot 8 has a closed lid 12 when it is placed on the hot plate 9.

  6. Press the button ⏻ 10. The LED ring around the button lights up. The brewing process will start after a short time.

  7. Allow approximately half of the descaling agent to run through the machine, and then switch off the device by pressing the button 10.
  8. Leave the descaling agent to work for approx. 30 minutes.
  9. Switch the coffee machine on by pressing the button ⏻ 10 and allow the rest of the descaling agent to run through.
  10. At the end of the brewing process, switch the coffee machine off by pressing the button ⚫10.
  11. Empty the pot 8 and rinse it with water.
  12. Fill the water tank 6 with clear water up to the 8 cup marking a further two times and start the brewing process.
