USING ESPRESSO MACHINE EMILIA
PREHEATING
In order to make a cup of espresso, you should preheat the machine including the holder, portafilter and cup prior to preparation. This way, the flavor of the coffee is not going to be affected by cold parts.
- Fill the water tank with water. The water level should not exceed the maximum filling capacity marked with "MAX". Now cover the water tank with the lid.
-
Insert the portafilter into the holder without adding ground coffee. Insert the portafilter in a way that the handle faces the "INSERT" position. Turn the portafilter counterclockwise until it sits tightly in "LOCK" position.
-
Place a cup onto the cup shelf.
- Plug the power plug into the socket. Make sure that the control knob is in its default position.
- Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "I" position. The blue coffee display is going to start flashing. The espresso machine is going to heat up.
- As soon as the coffee display turns steadily bright, preheating is completed.
PREPARATION OF ESPRESSO
- Detach the portafilter by turning it counterclockwise. Fill the portafilter with ground coffee and insert it back into the holder. One spoon of ground coffee is needed for one cup of espresso.
- Firmly press the ground coffee in place with the tamper. Insert the portafilter into the machine in a way that the handle faces the "INSERT" position. Turn the portafilter counterclockwise until it sits tightly in "LOCK" position.
- Place a cup into the cup shelf
- As soon as the blue coffee display shines steadily, turn the control knob to the position. To preheat your cup, hot water will now pour into it. Empty the cup before preparing the espresso.
- Turn the control knob to the position to prepare espresso.
- As soon as the desired quantity of coffee has been obtained, turn the control knob back to its default position. Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "O" position to switch off the machine. Note: Never leave the espresso machine unattended while preparing coffee as some steps must be operated manually.
- Turn the portafilter counterclockwise to detach it after coffee has been prepared. Remove residues of ground coffee from the portafilter.
- Let all parts cool down completely before cleaning them with water.
PREPARATION OF CAPPUCCINO
To make a cappuccino, one cup of espresso is combined with the same or a higher amount of hot milk and milk froth. Note: During steam generation, the portafilter must be in the "LOCK" position.
- First prepare a cup of espresso. Make sure that the control knob is back in its default position afterwards.
- Press the steam switch. The blue indicator display starts flashing.
- For each cup of cappuccino that you want to prepare, fill 100ml of milk into a heat-resistant container. Chilled whole milk is best suited for frothing (no hot milk!).
Note: The container needs to be sufficient in size as the frothing process can more than double the amount of milk.
- Hold the container in a way that the milk froth nozzle reaches ca. 2cm into the milk and turn the control knob to the position. Froth the milk with the released steam by moving the container downwards in a circular motion.
- After frothing, turn back the control knob to its default position. Note: Immediately after frothing, clean the steam tube with a damp cloth. Be careful not to burn yourself!
- Pour the frothed milk onto the previously made espresso.
- Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "O" position to switch off the machine.
Note: Let the espresso machine cool down for a minimum of 2 minutes before preparing another coffee.
HEATING UP LIQUIDS OR BEVERAGES WITH STEAM
The steam tube can be used for preparing hot beverages such as hot chocolate, water or tea.
- Fill the water tank with water. The water level should not exceed the maximum filling capacity marked with "MAX". Now, cover the water tank with the lid.
- Plug the power plug into the socket and turn the ON/OFF switch to the "l" position. The blue coffee display starts flashing.
- Press the steam switch to activate the steam function. As soon as the blue indicator display shines steadily, preheating is completed.
-
Without the frother nozzle, put the steam tube into the liquid. Turn the control knob to the position.
-
As soon as the desired temperature has been obtained, turn the operation knob to its default position.
- Turn the ON/OFF switch to the "O" position to switch off the machine.
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS
- When the machine is set to the steam function and the control knob is turned to the position, both the coffee and the steam indicator displays will be flashing.
- After using the steam function, the temperature of the brewing kettle is very high. If during this stage, the coffee switch is pressed, it flashes rapidly. The brewing kettle needs to cool down before next use.
- The maximum brewing time for coffee is 90 seconds. If after preparation of coffee, the control knob is not turned back to its default position, the machine will stop running after 90 seconds. The coffee and steam indicating displays will be flashing as a signal.
- If the machine is not operated within the next 25 seconds, the machine shuts down automatically. To start the machine again, first turn the ON/OFF switch to the "O" position and then back to the "I" position.
