To fully benefit from the support that Philips offers, register your product at www.philips.com/welcome. With the Philips InfraCare (650 W), you can comfortably relieve muscle and joint pain at home. Just like the sun, the device emits infrared light. The special glass plate (filter) only passes the type of light required to achieve the intended therapeutic effect. The Philips InfraCare (650 W) can also be used for muscle relaxation or for preparation for a massage. Effects of an infrared lamp The InfraCare provides infrared light, which penetrates deeply into the skin and warms the tissues. The warmth modulates the neuronal signals to the brain and thus reduces pain. Warmth also stimulates the local blood circulation and dilates the blood vessels, which accelerates the transport of substances necessary to rebuild and nourish the body’s tissues. Furthermore, infrared warmth generated by infrared light speeds up the metabolic process and the removal of metabolic waste products from the body. Warmth reduces stiffness and makes joints more flexible because it makes tissue more pliable. The benefits described can help to alleviate pain due to muscle and joint problems. Note: Read the ‘Warning’ section in chapter ‘Important safety information’ and follow the instructions before you use the device. Infrared light is emitted at a wavelength of 700 to more than 3000 nm, and is classified as IR-A (700-1400 nm), IR-B (1400-3000 nm) and IR-C (>3000 nm). Infrared-A waves penetrate the skin the deepest. The Philips glass plate (filter) has been optimized to transmit a large amount of IR-A light.

EnglishIntended use The infrared lamp is a local warmth therapy device. Possible therapeutic applications are:

Treatment of occasional or chronic muscle pain, stiff muscles and stiff joints.

Treatment of lower-back pain.

Treatment of pain due to rheumatic disorders (during the non-inflammatory phase) This device is intended for indoor use by adults who experience acute and chronic muscle or joint pain. Other applications You can also use the infrared lamp for the following purposes:

Preparation for a massage. Important safety information Read this important information carefully before you use the device and save it for future reference. Contraindications

Do not use the device without consulting your doctor first if you suffer from severe diseases such as heart disease, acute inflammatory diseases, thrombosis, blood coagulation disorders, adrenal suppression, systemic lupus erythematous or malignant diseases.

Do not use the device if you are oversensitive to infrared light. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device if you have oedema. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device if you are insensitive to infrared radiation and heat due to a disease (e.g. advanced diabetes) or due to the use of painkillers. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device if you suffer from conditions associated with nerve demyelinisation such as carpal tunnel syndrome, multiple sclerosis and ulnar neuropathy. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device if you have an implanted device, particularly not if it is located in the vicinity of the treatment area. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

If you are pregnant, do not use the device to treat areas close to your abdomen, to avoid overheating of this area. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device if you have a swelling or an inflammation, as heat could aggravate the complaints. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device on damaged or irritated skin or on wounds. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Do not use the device to treat areas on which you have recently applied topical counterirritants (creams or ointments containing e.g. menthol), as this can cause a mild inflammatory reaction.

Do not use the device if you suffer from poor thermal regulation or impaired circulation. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Water and electricity are a dangerous combination. Do not use this device in wet surroundings (e.g. in the bathroom or near a shower or swimming pool).

Do not use the device when the glass is damaged or missing, or if the coating of the glass is damaged.

Do not touch the glass or front part of the device when it is switched on. The surface is very hot and may cause burns on your skin (see 'Caution').

Never insert any object into the device. This may cause malfunction of the device or even cause an electrical shock.

Do not let water run into the device or spill water onto the device.

Check if the voltage indicated on the device corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the device.

If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service center authorized by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

Do not leave the device unattended when it is switched on.

This device is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the device by a person responsible for their safety.

This device is not intended for use by children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.

Always protect the device against unauthorized use by storing the device according to the storage instructions (see 'Storage').

Keep the appliance and its cord out of the reach of children and pets to avoid the risk of burns and other injuries due to contact with the device or fall of the device. Cords present a potential strangulation hazard. Keep cords out of the reach of children and pets.

This device is intended for the treatment of muscle and joint pain and muscle and joint stiffness, not for the treatment of abdominal, facial and other sorts of pain.

Prevent overheating of the skin, the warmth should be comfortable throughout the treatment.

To prevent eye damage, avoid eye exposure to the light source within 1 meter from the device. Do not look in the light source of the lamp, this may cause eye damage.

If there is no improvement after 6-8 treatments, stop using the device and consult your doctor.

Do not fall asleep during treatment.

Do not modify this equipment.

Do not place flammable and/or heat sensitive objects (such as electronic devices) in the vicinity of the device.

Use of this equipment adjacent to or stacked with other equipment should be avoided because it could result in improper operation. If such use is necessary, this equipment and the other equipment should be observed to verify that they are operating normally.

Portable RF communications equipment (including peripherals such as antenna cables and external antennas) should be used no closer than 30 cm (12 inches) to any part of the device including cables specified by the manufacturer. Otherwise, degradation of the performance of this equipment could result.

If the wall socket used to power the device has poor connections, the plug of the device becomes hot. Make sure you plug the device into a properly connected wall socket.

Do not subject the device to heavy shocks.

Always unplug the device after use and in case of a power failure.

Place the device on a stable, level surface. Keep at least 35 cm of free space around the device to prevent overheating (Fig. 5).

Make sure the vents in the back of the device remain open during use.

Do not cover the device with, for example, a cloth or a piece of clothing when it is switched on.

The device is equipped with an automatic protection against overheating. If the device is insufficiently cooled (e.g. because the cooling vents are covered), the device switches off automatically. Remove the cause of overheating. Once the device has cooled down, it can be switched on again by turning the timer knob.

To avoid getting your fingers hurt when you adjust the height, hold the lamp housing by the handgrip and height adjustment ring as long as the height adjustment rings are unlocked.

Let the device cool down for approx. 15 minutes before you touch, clean or store it.

If you have just been swimming or have just taken a shower, make sure you dry your skin properly before you use this device.

Never use the device when the glass plate (filter) is damaged, broken or missing. General The warning signs and symbols are essential to ensure that you use this product safely and correctly and to protect you and others from injury. Below you find the meaning of the warning signs and symbols on the label and in the user manual. This symbol indicates that you have to read the user manual carefully before you use the device. Save the user manual for future reference. This symbol warns you against hot surfaces. This symbol indicates that the user should consult the user manual for important safety information such as contraindications, warnings and cautions that cannot, for a variety of reasons, be presented on the device itself. Note: There is only one way to attach the pedestal tube to the pedestal. 3 Attach the lamp housing to the top of the pedestal tube, until it locks into place (Fig. 4). Note: To make sure all parts are properly assembled, check if the spring-loaded lock buttons are visible in the holes. 4 Keep at least 35 cm of free space around the device to prevent overheating (Fig. 5). 5 Adjust the lamp housing.

To avoid getting your fingers stuck when you adjust the height of the device, hold the lamp housing by the handgrip or the hinge with one hand while you grab one of the height adjustment rings with the other hand (Fig. 6). Note: The pedestal tube consists of three parts and two height adjustment rings. You can adjust the height with both rings.

Push the height adjustment ring downwards or pull the height adjustment ring upwards to unlock it (1). Then pull up the lamp housing or push it down to the desired height (2) (Fig. 6).

When you have set the lamp housing to the desired height, release the height adjustment ring to lock it. The height of the lamp housing is now fixed.

English- To tilt the lamp housing upwards or downwards, grasp it by the adjustment flaps (Fig. 7) and move it to the desired position (Fig. 8).

To put the lamp housing in vertical or horizontal position, grasp it by the adjustment flaps and turn it to the required position (Fig. 9).

Make sure the pedestal base is horizontal (Fig. 10). Using the device 1 Sit or lie down at the right distance from the device (Fig. 11).

Remove clothing and jewelry from the area to be treated.

The infrared light needs to be used on bare skin.

At a distance of 40-50 cm to the body, the device heats an area of about 40 cm by 60 cm. At a larger distance, the heated area is larger, but the infrared light and the heat are less intense. At a smaller distance, the heated area is smaller, but the infrared light and the heat are more intense. Note: Make sure the distance between your body and the device is large enough to prevent accidental contact with the glass plate (filter). 2 Insert the plug into a wall socket. 3 Position the device properly. The pedestal allows you to use the device in many different positions. Below you find some examples.

To treat your back from shoulders to hips, place the device beside a bed with the lamp housing in highest position and tilted down. Lie down comfortably on your belly (Fig. 12).

To treat your back, place the device beside a bed with the lamp housing in lowest position. Lie down comfortably on one side (Fig. 13). You can also place the device beside a chair or stool with the lamp housing in vertical position. Sit down comfortably with your back towards the device (Fig. 14).

To treat your upper back and shoulders, place the device behind a chair or other seat with the lamp housing in horizontal position. Sit down comfortably with your back towards the device (Fig. 15).

To treat your hip and upper leg, place the device beside a chair with the lamp housing in horizontal position. Sit down comfortably on a chair or stool (Fig. 16). 4 To switch on the device, turn the timer knob to the desired treatment time (Fig. 17).

You can choose a treatment time between 0 and 30 minutes. 5 Aim the beam of infrared light at the body part to be treated, by tilting the lamp housing forwards or backwards.

Choose a distance at which the heat feels comfortable on your skin. Increase the distance if the heat becomes too intense. 6 The device will switch off automatically when the desired treatment time has elapsed.

If you want to switch off the device before the desired treatment time has elapsed, turn the timer knob to 0 minutes. Note: If you disconnect the device from the wall socket while the timer is activated, the timer continues to count down and make a ticking sound.

Warning: To prevent eye damage, do not look into the light of the lamp when it is on. You

do not need to wear goggles as the InfraCare (650 W) has a special screen that filters out UV light.

EnglishDuration of treatment The duration of the treatment depends on the type of treatment and the person to be treated. Treatment of a single muscle or joint should last approximately 15 minutes. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated several times a day. You can repeat the series of several treatments a day on several consecutive days to get a result. If there is no improvement after 6-8 treatments, stop using the device and consult your doctor. For chronic problems, the device can be used for longer periods of time. Follow the instructions for safe use (see 'Warning').

Warning: Always consult your doctor in case of doubt.

Cleaning Note: Never use scouring pads, abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive liquids such as petrol or acetone to clean the device. 1 Unplug the device and let the lamp cool down for approx. 15 minutes before you clean the device. 2 Clean the lamp housing, the pedestal and the tube with a moist cloth. 3 You can clean the outside of the glass plate (filter) with a soft cloth sprinkled with some methylated spirits.

Warning: Do not let water run into the device or spill water onto the device.

Storage Note: Do not let the cord come into contact with the glass plate (filter) when it is hot. 1 Unplug the device and let the lamp cool down for approx. 15 minutes before you store it. Note: Always lift or carry the device by its handgrip. 2 Push the height adjustment ring downwards or pull the height adjustment ring upwards to unlock it (1) and push the lamp housing down to its lowest position (2) (Fig. 18). 3 Release the height adjustment ring to lock it. When you lift or carry the device, always make sure the lamp housing is in the lowest position (Fig. 19). Caution: To avoid getting your fingers hurt when you adjust the height, hold the lamp housing by the handgrip and height adjustment ring as long as the height adjustment rings are unlocked. 4 Roll up the mains cord around the cord storage hooks (Fig. 20). 5 Store the device in a dry place. the Philips Consumer Care Center for information. Lamp The effectiveness of the lamp does not diminish in the course of time. Note: Do not attempt to replace the lamp if the lamp stops working. Contact the Philips Consumer Care Center in your country for information. Note: If the lamp stops working during the warranty period, do not attempt to replace it yourself, but contact the Consumer Care Center. Troubleshooting This chapter summarizes the most common problems you could encounter with the device. If you are unable to solve the problem with the information below, visit www.philips.com/support for a list of frequently asked questions or contact the Consumer Care Center in your country.
