Frequently Asked Questions - FU8330 ABUS

How to install the FU8330 water detector?
Open the transmitter housing, unscrew the mounting plate screw, mount the base to the wall, replace the plate, insert the battery observing polarity, connect the sensor cable, then attach the sensor to a location that will be flooded quickly.
What type of battery does the FU8330 detector use?
It uses a 3 V CR2 lithium battery. Its lifespan is up to 3 years.
How to configure the jumpers on the FU8330?
The jumpers allow customizing the behavior: Disable Tamp disables tamper protection, Disable View State lights the LED upon detection, Alarm on Dry inverts detection (alarm when dry), Super Disable disables supervision messages to save battery.
How to pair the detector with the Secvest alarm panel?
Put the panel into learning mode, then trigger the tamper contact on the detector. The panel confirms with a double tone. Assign the zone type 'Technical' to the detector.
What to do if the LED does not light up upon water detection?
Check that the Disable View State jumper is not installed. If it is in place, the LED does not light up. Remove it to enable the LED.
Can I use the FU8330 detector for an inverted water level alarm?
Yes, by installing the Alarm on Dry jumper, the detector triggers an alarm when the sensor is dry (e.g., in case of water level drop).
What is the range of the wireless detector?
The range is not explicitly stated in the manual. However, the 868.6625 MHz frequency offers good range in a house. Use the radio test box to optimize the location.
How to maintain the water detector?
Clean the device with a dry, lint-free cloth. Regularly check the battery condition and replace if necessary. Avoid contact with chemicals.
Is the FU8330 detector waterproof?
The sensor can get wet, but the transmitter must remain dry. Mount the transmitter high to avoid damage in case of flooding.
What to do if the panel does not detect the detector?
Make sure the detector is in learning mode and the panel is also in learning mode. Check the battery and that the tamper contact is properly triggered. If the problem persists, reset the detector by removing and reinserting the battery.

Introduction

The FU8330 water detector reacts to liquids and water and reports these events to the Secvest alarm centre. It consists of a transmitter and a sensor, which are connected to one another by a cable. The water detector functions can also be

inverted. The detector then transmits when the sensor is dry.

Selecting the installation location

Install the water detector in a location that will be flooded very quickly in the event of water penetration. This ensures that an alarm will be triggered as soon as possible. Install the wireless detector in a position with the best available transmission properties. In the best case, an optimal position can be tested using a wireless testing box. Install the detector as high as possible. This protects the transmitter from damage in the event of flooding. Ensure that the transmitter is installed on a level surface, with the contacts for the water sensor facing downwards.

Installation

Open the housing of the wireless transmitter. Loosen the fastening screw on the PCB, then lift the PCB carefully out of the housing. Install the wireless transmitter at the selected location. Screw the rear part of the detector housing to the wall. Fasten the PCB back into the housing, then insert the lithium battery provided with the correct polarity. Connect the cable of the water sensor to the screw terminal of the transmitter.

Fastening the water sensor:

Choose a location that will be flooded very quickly in the event of water penetration.

Change the wireless transmitter settings as required using the jumpers.

Setting possibilities

Jumper: Disable Tamp

The tamper contact on the detector is inactive when this jumper is attached. You can then open the detector housing without triggering a tamper alarm.

Jumper: Disable View State

The LED lights up as soon as the sensor detects water when this jumper is attached.

Jumper: Alarm on Dry

When this jumper is attached, the detector reacts when it is no longer in contact with water (i.e it reacts to dry surroundings instead of contact with water).

Jumper: Super Disable

No supervision messages are sent to the alarm centre when this jumper is attached. This results in a longer battery service life. Ensure that supervision is deactivated on the alarm centre before setting this jumper.

Learning

  1. Set the Secvest wireless alarm system to learning mode. Consult the instructions of the alarm centre for more details.
  2. Activate the tamper contact of the water detector to send a tamper message to the wireless alarm system. The alarm centre acknowledges the detector with a double tone. After learning, the detector must be assigned the "Technical alarm" zone type.
  3. Make sure that the detector is recognised by your wireless alarm centre, then close the detector.

This product complies with the requirements of the EC directive: 1995/5/EC "Directive on radio and telecommunications terminal equipment and the mutual recognition of their conformity".
