Drying Food Drying food is an ef cient method of preserving fruit, vegeta- bles, herbs, meat, etc. Storing dried foods is easy and requires little storage space. The shelf-life can be further extended by storage in airtight containers. Please note that food which you have produced at home in your food dehydrator may have a different appearance to convenience foods that you buy in the supermarket or organic food shop. The reason for this is that no arti cial colourings or preservatives are used in your food dehydrator. You can also (partially) reverse the drying process by simply soaking the dried fruit or vegetables in cold water or cooking them with other foods. Drying Fruit and Vegetables

1. Please wash the fruit or vegetables thoroughly.

2. If necessary, remove any pips, stones and damaged parts.

3. Cut and grate the food which you would like to dry into

pieces of the required size (e.g. cut apricots in half).

4. If required, you can pre-blanch the vegetables and sprinkle

the fruit with a little lemon, sugar, cinnamon, honey or grated coconut.

5. Fruit with a naturally waxy skin (e.g. grapes and gs) and

long cooking times should be blanched.

6. Place the fruits on the grid(s) in such a way that the fruits

do not touch one another. Each grid can hold approx. three small sliced apples.

7. Up to ve grids can be used at the same time.

8. Replace the lid and then close the machine.

9. Switch on the food dehydrator with the ON/OFF switch.

Please note that the drying times also depend on the ambient temperature. Some foods require up to 12 hours.21 Drying Meat

1. Remove any fat and gristle from the meat. Then cut the

meat into narrow strips.

2. Marinate the meat for 6 to 8 hours.

3. Place the strips on the grid(s).

4. Here too it is possible to use ve grids at the same time.

5. Replace the lid and close the machine.

6. Switch on the machine using the ON/OFF switch.

Here too the drying time depends on the ambient temperature. Meat requires approx. 8 to 10 hours. Before checking whether your food has dried sufciently, you should store it in a cool place for a short time. Dried foods should be solid to the touch. Please ensure that there are no soft areas. Drying Petals and Herbs

1. Cut the owers/herbs in the late afternoon if possible and

not early in the morning as there is then too much moisture (dew) on them.

2. Please select owers or herbs which feel solid and have

not completely opened. Flowers which have opened completely lose their petals during the drying process. In the case of herbs you can use both complete stems and individual leaves.

3. Spread the owers thinly over the grid(s).

4. Now proceed as described under points 7 to 8 (“Drying

Fruit and Vegetables”).

5. In order to produce a potpourri from your dry petals, store

the dried owers or petals in an airtight, sealable container (preferably made of glass). Cleaning

  • Always remove the mains lead before cleaning!
  • Wait until the machine has cooled down completely!
  • Under no circumstances should you immerse the device in water for cleaning purposes. Otherwise this might result in an electric shock or re. CAUTION:
  • Clean the housing after use using a slightly moist cloth.
  • Make sure that no uid matter gets into any of the openings of the housing. This might damage the device or result in an electric shock.
