This appliance is intended for brewing coffee with coffee powder or coffee beans for use in the household or similar non-commercial places such as:

Safety instructions

Requirements for the place of operation

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the installation location must satisfy the following requirements:

Place the appliance on a firm, dry, flat, waterproof and heat-resistant surface.
The surface finishes on furniture may contain substances that can be detrimental to the feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance.
Do not install the appliance in a hot, wet or very humid environment.
Select a location that does not allow children to reach the hot surfaces of the appliance.

The mains socket must be easily accessible and allow fast disconnection in the event of an emergency.

Make sure that there is a sufficient distance to heat-sensitive surfaces to walls and furniture for example.

Electrical connection

For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions on the electrical connection must be observed:

Before connecting the appliance, compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer.
The mains socket must be protected by at least a 16 A fuse.

If the appliance is to be connected to the power supply via an extension lead, the cable cross-section must be at least 1.5mm^2

Ensure that the mains cable is undamaged and is not laid over sharp edges.

The mains cable must not be pulled tightly, bent or come into contact with hot surfaces.

Route the mains cable to prevent risk of tripping.

The electrical safety of the appliance is only assured when it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a mains socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, the electrical system must be checked by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer assumes no liability for injury or damage caused by a missing or interrupted protective earth conductor.

Startup

Unpacking

Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box.

Remove all packaging materials and protective foils from the product and the accessories before using it for the first time.

NOTE

Never remove the rating plate or any warning signs on the appliance.

  • Keep the original packaging during the warranty or guarantee period of the appliance in order to return the appliance in the packaging in the event of a warranty or guarantee claim. Transport damage will invalidate the warranty or guarantee.

Checking the delivery contents

Check for visible signs of damage or missing items.

Report incomplete or damaged contents to your supplier immediately.

Before using for the first time

Fill the water tank (13) up to mark 10 with fresh water as described in the section Filling with water (page 24).

Rinse the filter insert (11) with clear water and put it into the filter compartment (10).

Insert an empty unused filter bag as described in the section Inserting a new filter bag (page24).
Place the coffee jug (7) with the lid on the hot plate (8) under the filter compartment (10).
Insert the plug into the mains socket, the display lighting lights up.
Set the number of cups to scribed in the section Setting the number of cups (page24).
Press the button (21) to switch on the grinder.
Wait until all the water has run through and the "cup" symbol (22) in the display starts flashing.
Empty the coffee jug (7) and pour the coffee away.
Clean the coffee jug (7) with warm wa- ter and washing-up liquid.
Wipe the appliance and the accessories with a slightly damp cloth.

NOTE

When using for the first time, it is possible that production-related additives such as grease could cause slight odour or smoke. This is completely normal. Ensure sufficient ventilation.

Operation and use

Switching on the display lighting

The blue display lighting goes out 60 seconds after the last keypress except when the appliance is in operation, e.g. coffee is being brewed or kept warm.

press any key to switch on the display lighting.

NOTE

Only press the button for the desired action after the lighting goes on.

Setting the time

Insert the plug into the mains socket. The time 12:00 starts flashing on the display.

Set the hour by pressing the 00:-button (32).

Set the minutes by pressing the --:00 button (33).

NOTE

The time will be stored until either a new time is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute.

Filling with water (image A1)

Open the water tank lid (3).

Only fill the amount of water required for the desired number of cups.

NOTE

The entire amount of water in the tank is always used, independent of the number of cups or the strength of coffee set.

Pay attention to the filling level indicator (12) in the water tank. Do not overfill!

Filling with coffee beans

Take the lid off the coffee bean com- partment (1).
Make sure that the water tank lid (3) is closed to prevent coffee beans from falling into the water tank.

Put the lid (1) back onto the coffee bean compartment (2).

Inserting a new filter bag

Press the release button (5) to open the filter compartment (10).
Place a size 4 filter bag into the filter insert (11).
Close the filter compartment (10).

Setting the number of cups

Press the button (29) repeatedly until the desired number of cups appears in the display.

The following settings are possible: 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 cups.

NOTE

The number of cups set will be stored until either a new number of cups is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute.

Setting the coffee strength

Press the button (28) repeatedly until the desired coffee strength appears in the display. The following settings are possible: : mild, medium and strong.

NOTE

The set coffee strength will be stored until either a new coffee strength is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute.

Brewing very strong coffee

Press the button (30) to brew very strong coffee (similar to espresso). 2-4 appears on the display. Pressing the button (30) switches the number of cups between 2 and 4.

NOTE

This function can be activated only if 2 or 4 cups of coffee have been set. Press the button (29) to switch off this function. 2-4 is no longer displayed.

Setting the grinding fineness (image A2)

The grinding fineness is set by turning the coffee bean compartment (2) left or right.

Turn the coffee bean compartment (2) so that the arrow of the scale points to the position of the desired grinding fineness (4).

You can set 5 different levels:

Completely left: finest grind.

Completely right: coarsest grind.

Activating the reminder for changing the activated carbon filter

NOTE

For this function, the appliance must remain connected to the mains and the time set as described in the section Setting the time (page 24).

In the display, the symbol appears. The symbol will start flashing after 70 coffees were brewed. Replace the activated carbon filter as described in the section Replacing the activated carbon filter (page 30).

Removing/replacing the coffee jug lid (images B1-B3)

The appliance is equipped with a glass jug and a lid.

To remove the lid, proceed as follows:

Open the lid as illustrated (image B1).

Turn the lid in the direction of the ar- row to release the left-hand pin of the lid from the holder (see image B2).

The lid can now be removed.

Tofit the lid, proceed as follows:

first insert the right-hand pin into the holder, then turn the lid in the direction of the arrow so that the left-hand pin engages (image B3).

Close the lid.

Drip protection

When the appliance is in operation, the coffee jug (7) must be under the filter compartment (10) and the lid of the coffee jug must be fitted correctly. The lid of the coffee jug presses the drip protector (9) upwards, and the coffee can flow from the filter through the lid into the coffee jug.

The drip protector (9) prevents water running out of the filter when the coffee jug (7) is removed from the appliance. During the brewing process however, the coffee jug (7) should not be removed from the appliance for more than 30 seconds, otherwise the filter will fill up and the coffee will overflow.

Preparation

Requirements for aromatic coffee

In order to prepare aromatic coffee, please observe the following instructions:

Fill the water tank with the amount fresh water required for the desired number of cups.
If possible, use freshly ground coffee powder to assure optimum flavour.

Experiment with the amount of coffee powder until you find the flavour you prefer.

Try various different levels of grinding fineness for the coffee powder. The grinding fineness for the coffee powder influences the aroma of the coffee.

Although the hot plate can keep the coffee hot for about 2 hours, we recommend that you pour brewed coffee into a thermos jug and switch off the appliance.
Clean and descale the appliance at regular intervals. A dirty and/or scaled appliance impairs the aroma.

Get the number of cups, the strength of the coffee and the grinding fineness.

Pour water into the water tank and fill the coffee bean compartment with coffee beans.

Insert a new, empty filter bag.

Terminate the programming process.

Presuften24again to activate the timer function. You can also wait until the power indicator stops flashing in order to press the 已 button (24). The power indicator lights up continuously and the timer function is activated.

When the preset time is reached, the appliance is switched on automatically.

After brewing

Carry out the following operations after each use of the appliance in order to retain proper function of the appliance and prevent mould from forming:

Emptying / cleaning the filter

Remove the coffee jug from the hotplate.
Press the unlocking button (5) to open the filter compartment (10).

Remove the filter insert (11) with the filter bag from the filter compartment.
Throw the filter bag away and wash the filter insert (11) and drip protector (9).

Storage

If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, switch it off and pull the plug out of the mains socket. Clean the appliance as described in the section Cleaning and care (page 29).

Store the appliance and all accessory parts at a dry, clean and frost-free location which is protected against direct sunlight.

Cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning

Before beginning any work, pay attention to the safety instructions in the section Safety instructions (page 19)!

Clean the filter insert (11) and coffee jug (7) after each use. The coffee jug, lid and filter insert can be washed in a dish washer. Remove the lid of the coffee jug first as described in the section Removing/replacing the coffee jug lid (page 26).

If required, clean the coffee bean compartment (2) and its lid (1) with damp cloth.

Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Use washing-up liquid to remove any stubborn stains.

Cleaning the grinder shaft images C1, C2

It is possible that the grinder shaft can become blocked during the grinding process. In this case, clean the grinder shaft (14):

press the locking button (on the symbol) with a sharp object and pull the lid forwards (image C1).

Clean the grinder shaft (14) with the cleaning brush supplied (image C2).

Press the locking button and push the lid back onto the grinder shaft.

Replacing the activated carbon filter images C3, C4

Press the button (31) to switch off the reminder for replacing the activated carbon filter. The symbol disappears from the display.

Remove the holder for the activated carbon filter (15) from the water tank (13). Open the compartment flap (16) and remove the old activated carbon filter (image C3).

Remove the new activated carbon filter (17) from its plastic packaging and thoroughly rinse under running water in order to remove any potential production residues.
Insert the new activated carbon filter into the holder and close the compartment flap.

Insert the activated carbon filter (15) into the recess in the water tank (image C4).

NOTE

The reminder for changing the activated carbon filter is only active when the symbol appears on the display but is not flashing.

Dscaling

In order not to impair the service life of the appliance and the quality of the coffee, the appliance has to be descaled at regular intervals. The descending intervals depend on the water hardness. We recommend descending every 6 weeks.

Fill the water tank with water to the 10 mark and citric acid or vinegar essence (approximately 5 % acidic solution).

Interrupt the brewing process for 10 minutes and allow the entire descending solution to run through.
Empty the coffee jug (7).

Allow two tank fills of clear water to run through the appliance for rinsing.

If you use a commercially available descaling agent, observe the manufacturer's instructions for use.
