waterproof and heat-resistant surface. The surface finishes on furniture may

contain substances that can be detri- mental to the feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance. Do not install the appliance in a hot, wet

or very humid environment. Select a location that does not allow

children to reach the hot surfaces of the appliance. The mains socket must be easily acces- ■ sible and allow fast disconnection in the event of an emergency. Make sure that there is a sufficient dis- ■ tance to heat-sensitive surfaces to walls and furniture for example. Electrical connection For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions on the electrical connection must be be observed: Before connecting the appliance, com-

pare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid dam- age to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer. The mains socket must be protected by

at least a 16 A fuse. If the appliance is to be connected to ■ the power supply via an extension lead, the cable cross-section must be at least

Place the coffee jug (7) with the lid on

the hot plate (8) under the filter com- partment (10). Insert the plug into the mains socket, the display lighting lights up. Set the number of cups to 10 as de- scribed in the section Setting the number of cups (page24). Press the button (21) to switch on the grinder. Wait until all the water has run through and the "cup" symbol (22) in the display starts flashing. Empty the coffee jug (7) and pour the coffee away. Clean the coffee jug (7) with warm wa- ter and washing-up liquid. Wipe the appliance and the accesso-

ries with a slightly damp cloth. NOTE When using for the first time, it is pos- ► sible that production-related additives such as grease could cause slight odour or smoke. This is completely normal. Ensure sufficient ventilation. Startup Unpacking Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box. Remove all packaging materials and protective foils from the product and the accessories before using it for the first time. NOTE Never remove the rating plate or any ► warning signs on the appliance. Keep the original packaging during

the warranty or guarantee period of the appliance in order to return the appliance in the packaging in the event of a warranty or guarantee claim. Transport damage will invali- date the warranty or guarantee. Checking the delivery contents Check for visible signs of damage or missing items. Report incomplete or damaged con- tents to your supplier immediately. Before using for the first time Fill the water tank (13) up to mark 10 with fresh water as described in the section Filling with water (page 24). Fill with coffee as described in the section Filling with coffee beans (page24). Rinse the filter insert (11) with clear

water and put it into the filter compart- ment (10).BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle24 Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 EN NOTE The entire amount of water in the ► tank is always used, independent of the number of cups or the strength of coffee set. Pay attention to the filling level indica-

tor (12) in the water tank. Do not overfill! Filling with coffee beans Take the lid off the coffee bean com- partment (1). Make sure that the water tank lid (3)

is closed to prevent coffee beans from falling into the water tank. Fill the coffee bean compartment (2)

with coffee beans. Do not overfill! Put the lid (1) back onto the coffee

bean compartment (2). Inserting a new filter bag Press the release button (5) to open the filter compartment (10). Place a size 4 filter bag into the filter

Setting the number of cups Press the

button (29) repeatedly until the desired number of cups ap- pears in the display. The following settings are possible: 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 cups. Operation and use Switching on the display lighting The blue display lighting goes out 60 sec- onds after the last keypress except when the appliance is in operation, e.g. coffee is being brewed or kept warm. Press any key to switch on the display

lighting. NOTE Only press the button for the desired ► action after the lighting goes on. Setting the time Insert the plug into the mains socket. The time 12:00 starts flashing on the display. Set the hour by pressing the but- ton (32). Set the minutes by pressing the

button (33). NOTE The time will be stored until either ► a new time is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute. Filling with water (image A1) Open the water tank lid (3).

Only fill the amount of water required for the desired number of cups. Close the water tank lid (3). BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle 25 EN Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 Setting the grinding fineness (image A2) The grinding fineness is set by turning the coffee bean compartment (2) left or right . Turn the coffee bean compartment (2)

so that the arrow of the scale points to the position of the desired grinding fineness (4). You can set 5 different levels: Completely left: finest grind. ■ Completely right: coarsest grind. ■ Activating the reminder for changing the activated carbon filter NOTE For this function, the the appliance ► must remain connected to the mains and the time set as described in the section Setting the time (page 24). Press the button (31) to activate the reminder for changing the activated carbon filter. In the display, the symbol appears. The symbol will start flashing after 70 coffees were brewed. Replace the activated carbon filter as described in the section Replacing the activated carbon filter (page 30). NOTE The number of cups set will be stored ► until either a new number of cups is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute. Setting the coffee strength Press the button (28) repeat- edly until the desired coffee strength appears in the display. The following settings are possible: : mild, medium and strong. NOTE The set coffee strength will be stored ► until either a new coffee strength is entered or the plug is removed from the socket for more than a minute. Brewing very strong coffee Press the

button (30) to brew very strong coffee (similar to espresso). 2-4 appears on the display. Pressing the

button (30) switches the number of cups between 2 and 4. NOTE This function can be activated only if ► 2 or 4 cups of coffee have been set. Press the

button (29) to switch off this function. 2-4 is no longer displayed.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle26 Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 EN Preparation Requirements for aromatic coffee In order to prepare aromatic coffee, please observe the following instructions: Fill the water tank with the amount fresh

water required for the desired number of cups. If possible, use freshly ground coffee

powder to assure optimum flavour. Experiment with the amount of coffee ■ powder until you find the flavour you prefer. Try various different levels of grinding ■ fineness for the coffee powder. The grinding fineness for the coffee powder influences the aroma of the coffee. Although the hot plate can keep the

coffee hot for about 2 hours, we recom- mend that you pour brewed coffee into a thermos jug and switch off the appli- ance. Clean and descale the appliance at

regular intervals. A dirty and/or scaled appliance impairs the aroma. Brewing coffee with coffee beans NOTE Activate the display lighting by press- ► ing any key. The lighting goes off 60 seconds after the last button was pressed. Fill with water as described in the sec-

tion Filling with water (page 24). Removing/replacing the coffee jug lid (images B1–B3) The appliance is equipped with a glass jug and a lid. To remove the lid, proceed as follows: Open the lid as illustrated (image B1). Turn the lid in the direction of the ar- row to release the left-hand pin of the lid from the holder (see image B2). The lid can now be removed. To fit the lid, proceed as follows: First insert the right-hand pin into the

holder, then turn the lid in the direction of the arrow so that the left-hand pin engages (image B3). Close the lid. Drip protection When the appliance is in operation, the ■ coffee jug (7) must be under the filter compartment (10) and the lid of the cof- fee jug must be fitted correctly. The lid of the coffee jug presses the drip protec- tor (9) upwards, and the coffee can flow from the filter through the lid into the coffee jug. The drip protector (9) prevents water ■ running out of the filter when the coffee jug (7) is removed from the appliance. During the brewing process however, the coffee jug (7) should not be re- moved from the appliance for more than 30 seconds, otherwise the filter will fill up and the coffee will overflow.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle 27 EN Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 Brewing coffee with coffee powder NOTE Activate the display lighting by press- ► ing any key. The lighting goes out 60 seconds after the last button was pressed. Fill with water as described in the sec-

With the help of the measuring spoon supplied (1 level spoon per cup), fill the filter bag with the required amount of coffee pow- der up to a maximum of 2 cm under the filter edge. Press the button (27) to start brewing coffee. The power indicator (26) lights up, the coffee is brewed. When the brewing process has been completed, the "cup" symbol (22) in the top left of the display starts flashing. NOTE The appliance switches itself off auto- ► matically after 2 hours. Cancelling the brewing process Press the button (27) or the button (21) to cancel the brewing proc- ess and switch off the appliance. The power indicator (26) goes out, the appliance is switched off. Fill with coffee as described in the

section Filling with coffee beans (page 24). Insert an empty unused filter bag as

described in the section Inserting a new filter bag (page 24). Select the desired number of cups as

described in the section Setting the number of cups (page 24). Set the desired strength of coffee as described in the section Setting the coffee strength (page 25). Set the grinding fineness as described in the section Setting the grinding fineness (page 25). Press the button (21) to switch on the grinder. The indicator lamp (20) is lit; the freshly ground coffee powder is passed through the shaft of the grinder into the filter compartment (10), and the coffee is brewed. When the brewing process has been

completed, the "cup" symbol (22) in the top left of the display starts flashing. NOTE The appliance switches itself off auto- ► matically after 2 hours. Cancelling the brewing process Press the button (21) to cancel the brewing process and switch off the appliance. The indicator lamp (20) goes out; the appliance is switched off.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle28 Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 EN Pour water into the water tank and fill the coffee bean compartment with cof- fee beans. Insert a new, empty filter bag.

Terminate the programming process. Press the button (24) again to activate the timer function. You can also wait until the power indica- tor (25) stops flashing in order to press the button (24). The power indicator (25) lights up continuously and the timer function is activated. When the preset time is reached, the appli- ance is switched on automatically. Stopping the preset timer In order to stop the timer, press one of

the following buttons: Button – (24) The power indicator (25) goes out. Button – (21) The power indicator (25) goes out and the appliance starts brewing coffee with coffee beans. Button – (27) The power indicator (25) goes out and the appliance starts brewing coffee with coffee powder. Preparing coffee using the preset timer NOTE To brew coffee using the timer, the ► clock must be set as described in the section Setting the time (page 24). Programming the preset time Press the button (24) and hold it down for approx. 3 seconds. The power indicator (25) starts flashing. Use the button (32) and but- ton (33) to set the desired start time. For brewing coffee with coffee powder: Also press the button (27) as long as the power indicator (25) continues to flash. The power indicator (26) lights up. Fill the water tank with water and the filter bag with coffee powder. Brewing coffee with coffee beans: Make sure that the power indicator

(26) does not light up. If neces- sary, press the button (27) as long as the power indicator (25) continues to flash. The power indicator (26) goes out. Set the number of cups, the strength of

the coffee and the grinding fineness.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle 29 EN Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 Cleaning and maintenance Cleaning Before beginning any work, pay attention to the safety instructions in the section Safety instructions (page 19)! Clean the filter insert (11) and coffee

jug (7) after each use. The coffee jug, lid and filter insert can be washed in a dish washer. Remove the lid of the cof- fee jug first as described in the section Removing/replacing the coffee jug lid (page 26). If required, clean the coffee bean com- ■ partment (2) and its lid (1) with damp cloth. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. ■ Use washing-up liquid to remove any stubborn stains. Cleaning the grinder shaft images C1, C2 It is possible that the grinder shaft can be- come blocked during the grinding process. In this case, clean the grinder shaft (14): Press the locking button (on the

symbol) with a sharp object and pull the lid forwards (image C1). Clean the grinder shaft (14) with the cleaning brush supplied (image C2). Press the locking button and push the lid back onto the grinder shaft. After brewing Carry out the following operations after each use of the appliance in order to retain proper function of the appliance and pre- vent mould from forming: Emptying / cleaning the filter Remove the coffee jug from the hot-

plate. Press the unlocking button (5) to open

the filter compartment (10). Remove the filter insert (11) with the filter bag from the filter compartment. Throw the filter bag away and wash the filter insert (11) and drip protector (9). Storage If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, switch it off and pull the plug out of the mains socket. Clean the appliance as described in the section Cleaning and care (page 29). Store the appliance and all accessory parts at a dry, clean and frost-free location which is protected against direct sunlight.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle30 Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 EN Descaling In order not to impair the service life of the appliance and the quality of the coffee, the appliance has to be descaled at regular intervals. The descaling intervals depend on the water hardness. We recommend des- caling every 6 weeks. Fill the water tank with water to the 10 mark and citric acid or vinegar essence (approximately 5 % acidic solution). Press the button (27) and allow a cup full to run through. Interrupt the brewing process for 10 minutes and allow the entire descal- ing solution to run through. Empty the coffee jug (7).

Allow two tank fills of clear water to run through the appliance for rinsing. Wash all removable parts with warm

water and washing-up liquid before brewing coffee again. NOTE If you use a commercially available ► descaling agent, observe the manu- facturer's instructions for use. If the appliance is severely scaled,

it may be necessary to repeat the descaling process. Replacing the activated carbon filter images C3, C4 Press the button (31) to switch off the reminder for replacing the activated carbon filter. The symbol disappears from the display. Remove the holder for the activated carbon filter (15) from the water tank (13). Open the compartment flap (16) and remove the old activated carbon filter (image C3). Remove the new activated carbon fil- ter (17) from its plastic packaging and thoroughly rinse under running water in order to remove any potential pro- duction residues. Insert the new activated carbon filter into the holder and close the compart- ment flap. Insert the activated carbon filter (15)

into the recess in the water tank (image C4). Press the button (31) to reactivate the reminder for changing the activated carbon filter. NOTE The reminder for changing the acti- ► vated carbon filter is only active when the symbol appears on the display but is not flashing.BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle 31 EN Fresh-Aroma-Perfect V2 Troubleshooting The following table will help you locate and eliminate minor faults: Fault Possible cause Remedy No symbol in the display. Not plugged in. Insert the mains plug. No mains power. Check the fuse/mains socket. Display defective. Contact customer serv- ice. The automatic circuit break- er in the fuse box trips. Too many appliances connect- ed to the same power circuit. Reduce the number of appliances on the power circuit. No fault detected. Contact customer serv- ice. Water runs out of the ap- pliance. Too much water in the water tank. Do not overfill the water tank! The coffee is dispensed into the coffee jug very slowly. Drip protector blocked. Clean drip protector. Appliance is scaled. Descale the appliance. The coffee does not run into the coffee jug. Coffee jug lid is not correctly fitted. Fit the lid correctly. The coffee is too weak. Too much water in the water tank. Only fill in the amount of water required for the desired number of cups. Grounded coffee does not fall into the filter compart- ment. Grinder shaft blocked. Clean grinder shaft. Strong build-up of steam whilst brewing coffee. Appliance severely scaled. Descale the appliance several times.
